great help
glad to hear! Good luck!
Thank you so much, i was about to go insane of the thought that i have to add tabs to over 60 equations manually😭😭😭
glad its helpful ^^
Great tutorial! Much appreciated!
Thanks, glad its useful!!
I cannot type a comma in the equation for the life of me, even with ink equation. Help!!!
Not sure.. I have no trouble typing a simple comma. What equation are you trying to type? Do things like standard fractions or exponents work fine? Are you using US keyboard (not sure if other input language keyboard may give different results)?
Nice and crystal clear
Love it! Even ChatGPT couldn't give this tutorial!
Wow, great compliment, thanks, glad its useful! 😃😃

Hello, I have an two questions unrelated to this video. 1. How can one insert the cancel to zero arrow (or goes to zero) over some terms in word 2. How can one create block matrices with vertical and horizontal lines separating that matrix into submatrices
1. You type arg <space> \above(x ightarrow 0) <space>. Do not write <space>. I just put it there to indicate that you have to press "space".The parenthesis is removed after formatting so if you want a parenthesis in the expression above the argument you'll have to write \above((x ightarrow 0)) 2. You mark the cell you want to create a matrix in and use the \matrix or insert one from the equation editor. A=[\matrix(\matrix(a_11&a_12@a_21&a_22)&\matrix(b_11&b_12@b_21&b_22)@\matrix(c_11&c_12@c_21&c_22)&\matrix(d_11&d_12@d_21&d_22))] It does not work if you just copy/paste the formula and press space at the end of the formula. Make sure to press space for each element (or block component) to make it format as a matrix before doing the same to the next element and so on.
I am struggling to understand your playlists cause everything is done for mac. Me as a windows user got lost when you started to talk about how to set up the shortcuts
The most useful video I've watched so far :) Thanks ...
these videos are great...
wonderful ...
when i press com+=,1 it is Currently assigned to : [unassigned], how to make it for equation numbering?
Here is the video on how to set it up: th-cam.com/video/ZBzzUS4Cjoc/w-d-xo.html Once it is set up, you can use this shortcut everytime! If you're already familiar with Word Field Codes, you can skip to part 2: th-cam.com/video/gclYKPBENKE/w-d-xo.html
Excellent! Now all we need is conversion to TeX and a shortcut to compile it. That would very nice.
Wooow
You good sir really love the way you do it despite it fast but I got all the information I need God bless you sir
Much appreciated sir.
Genius 🤩
Hi dear Sunny Yu, I am unable to write something (like i.i.d.) over \sim in latex form in word. I tried \overset{i.i.d.}{\sim} but I failed. The command \overset did not work. Do you have any idea by any chance?
Win + ctrl + f9 seq equation f9
how to type matrix with only one opening brackets ?
Open brackets as normal, then type “ \close “ and a space. This will close it.
it is really hard to follow. also, the short keys don't work for me.
As mentioned, this is a “demo” of what can be done. The detailed for each shortcut, depending on what you need, is in each video in the playlist in the description, or below for your convenience: Full Playlist - Tips and Tricks for Efficient Equation Math Typing in Word: th-cam.com/play/PLtLqKaRi3ZvK3UmSBcKFJVReJmyySMsSW.html E.g. if you want to type Matrices using Keyboard only: th-cam.com/video/oW6f3AqeWHM/w-d-xo.html If you can’t find what you need, let me know!
Thank you very much
You’re very welcome!! 👍👍
Its this simple, really?
Right? 👍
Does not work
That’s strange. Which version of word are you running?
what is the version of MS office?
MS Word version 16.30. I got Office 365, but it should work in any recent versions. My OS was running MacOS 10.15.4 in the video. But this also shouldn’t matter with any newer versions.
Why does it bug for me ?? when i do this the softwares just crashes
I’m not sure. Are you running with the latest versions of Word?
I can't find the "customize keyboard" menu. Actually I can't display the top menu bar as yours, only the 'ribbon'. I spent like 30min trying to find how to display the top menu bar apart from the ribbon like yours but couldn't. I'm feeling really stupid right now.
Same here hahaha
Update: I'm using Windows and i found out Mac has that Menu bar we don't, for us it's in the Insert - Quick Parts - Auto Text - Save Selection To Auto Text Gallery. You won't be able to click last one if you didn't highlight text before that. I tried it and it worked just fine. :)
Oh thank you for finding this out! I don’t have a windows so I couldn’t help either. Glad someone in the community can help!! 👍👍
Best video about the subject
Wow, Many thanks for this comment masteronepiece!!!!
Try teaching some day
Thanks, I’ve been teaching for 14 years :) But we all have different things that work for different people. This software is what works best for me, after using LaTeX for years. But some may still prefer LaTeX, which has its own pros as well of course. I am simply sharing my experience in case there may be someone else who finds this useful like I do. Hope you find a way that works best for you too!
THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Very welcome Ranikumari! All the best with your journey!
I didn't know word could do this complex stuffs before, Amazing...
Me too! Was a surprise for me too (and constantly still discovering new tricks and even faster workflows now)! Glad this can inspire or help others who may find it useful!
YOU'RE A LEGEND! <3
Aw, you’re a legend for commenting! Many thanks and glad it helped!
Just note for myself and others that for environment you need to use both square brackets - you cannot just use the right hand side of the square bracket as I found out myself when trying.
A trick is to use the syntax type “ \open “ or “ \close ” if you want want one side to be “empty”. See if this works?
How make equation to image in word
I think the only way is to do a screenshot or via the snipping tool, if you want to get an image from a Word equation
Hello! It seems to me that your method is not optimal, try { STYLEREF 1 \s }.{ SEQ eqn \* Arabic \s 1 \* MERGEFORMAT } How does it work? "STYLEREF 1" prints the number of the current "Heading 1" section "SEQ eqn" creates a sequence named 'eqn' "\s 1" restarts the sequence at each "heading 1" I also tried to use { SECTION } for the first number, but it didn't work. 1 was displayed all the time. I don’t understand why
This is very useful, I shall try it out, thanks!
How to make the integration limits directly above and below integral sign? And please don't write that there are two integral sign options in the toolbox - I know that, just want to understand why the right one is not working and how to fix it
Good Question. I found a "semi"-shortcut, but still requires 1 right-click from the mouse: After you type "\int_a^b" <space> and generated the integral, *right click ON the integral sign*, then choose "Change Limit Locations". I have yet to find a fully "keyboard way". If I do, I'll update here. In the meantime hope this saves you few fractions of a second (compared to the standard menu search and click method)...! But I am still exploring.
Looks like it is a default issue, and you will need to change some system defaults so it prefers the above/below version. Here is a reference I found, but I am not an expert in it: devblogs.microsoft.com/math-in-office/default-math-properties/
@@SunnyYu thanks I'll check that out. I have been struggling with this issue for some time now and looks like Word cannot set this right until today
@@grzegorzgomoka4647 No worries at all. Good luck!
So nice! Would you mind to provide the keyboard short cuts that you are using to write equation number...
Yes of course, here it is: Making Automatic Numbered Eqns in Word | Part 5 - The Hashtag Method th-cam.com/video/o-zPYyVTW5c/w-d-xo.html (This is just one of a few ways you can do it.) I have also a Full Playlist of many things you may want to do with equation numberings or formattings that you may find helpful!: th-cam.com/play/PLtLqKaRi3ZvK3UmSBcKFJVReJmyySMsSW.html You may find some other ways useful.
Is there a way to type a subscript centered right below a triple integral, using keyboard shortcut?
Good Q! I found a "semi"-shortcut: After you type "\int_a^b" space "f(x) dx" and generated the integral, *right click ON the integral sign*, then choose "Change Limit Locations". I have yet to find a fully keyboard way. If I do I'll update here. In the meantime hope this saves you few fractions of a second (compared to the standard menu search and click method)...!

@@SunnyYu Thank you so much. I find this method convenient.
@@TingwenZhang Good to know! :D Good luck!
FY!!!!! Editing the hard way is the last thing to do!!!!
What editing would you like to do?
@@SunnyYu I want to covert existing word equations made by someone else into latex source code.
@@tonyscott1658 If you want to convert just the word equations by someone else to latex, the 2-step process of "toggling to latex", then "select all, copy & paste" to a text editor of your choice strategy should do it. If you want to convert a full word document with equations into a full latex document source code (including all the formatting codes and preambles), since word's source code is obviously different from latex, this button won't do the job. There are however some 3rd-party freewares/softwares online that can do an approximately decent job - however, as expected, converting between two file formats or protocols are never exact or easy...
@@SunnyYu Yes, Thank you and I did use it. There were some glitches. Some equations did not translate at all. You also have to go equation by equation. You can't automate the process for the whole doc. Such attempts lead to disastrous results. I did not find anything free out there that did the job adequately. I made the translation from doc to latex BUT IT WAS LABORIOUS!!!!!
@@tonyscott1658 Hi Tony, yes, translating documents from one format to another is always horrible - completely agree. Perhaps one day we'll have AI smart enough to do this :) Btw, I just found a way to do all equations all at once. First go to "Equations" tab and switch to "LaTeX". Then, click the little arrow next to the "e^x Covert" button, and choose "All - Linear". Do not use the keyboard shortcut. This seems to convert ALL unicode equations to latex at once. Anyway, all the best and hope this helps.
I am on my yourney with you through words equation editor😊
Thanks, hope these are useful, all the best!
thank you so much my lab reports will now take 1/4th less time than they used to
