เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 9 ก.พ. 2024
I retired on December 31, 2024. The transition into retirement life will be what I talk about going forward into 2025. On this channel not only do I talk about Retirement Topics but Senior Lifestyle also. One day I might talk about Social Security or Insurance Issues and the next day I might host a Cooking Show. One of my biggest passions and hobbies is Photography. I have a backyard bird area setup that I am able to spend some free time photographing the birds that visit. I am going to try and stay active in my senior years and I hope to bring some of those adventures to the channel also. To each and everyone one of you I Welcome you to my channel - The Retirement Groove
ATGFOX 8250a JUMPSTARTER | Unboxing and first impressions
ATGFOX reached out to me and asked if I would like to review their Jump Start Product. After looking at their website I determined that this could be a quality useful product to carry around in your vehicle in case you found yourself with a Dead or Weak Battery and the AAA Road Service was not where to be found. Just kidding. Take a look at this ATGFOX 8250a Jump Start Box as I do my unboxing and show you what it looks like.

Great little unit to have with you in case your jumper cables don't reach, sometimes you are parked where another vehicle can't get next to your car or truck. The leads might be offset to keep them from sparking in case they are removed from the battery incorrectly.
Thanks for the info!
I messed up I beginning. It’s 2025 not 2024
Hi Ron, congratulations on your retirement. Are you loving it. Thank you for sharing the video.
Yes I am! Happy New Year Pam.
Happy New year Ron, thank you @@TheRetirementGroove
Yes, please do a Buccees tour. I've heard of them but we don't have them in our state.
I will try to get over to Buccee's soon to do a video. I have only been once and it was a few years ago.
We love our little butane stove, great way to make coffee when the power is out before the generator gets started. We have a little set up with some instant coffee for these times. I bought two shelf stable containers of milk and some of that powdered milk to keep on the shelf to hold us over should there be some disaster...we have earthquakes in the Pacific Northwest.
We have a small emergency kit we keep at the house. If the power goes out, I can actually move into the camper for a few days. Propane Heater in the Camper and Cooktop, yea you could make do for a week or so.
Find an Asian store and get your butane canisters after this. Save $$$$
Thank you. I have never hear of an Asian Store before.
Nice shopping trip! I can almost never get out for under $200/wk for 3 adults. I have tried going every two weeks a couple times lately and it did save a bit. Probably because I don’t really shop with a list. 😔
I would think on average I would say a good all round budget would be about $75 or less per person. Adults may eat different than if you had children. I know I spent more when I was working and most of that was on processed foods which I am trying to cut out. Now that I am retired I need to be more fugal. In the past it really didn't matter what we spent. Different now. What helps is discussing the menu for the Evening Meals for the week. They determine what we don't have and only purchase those things we need. Staple items like Milk, Eggs, Cereal, etc are a given. It is the other things we don't normally purchase had to be thought out. Like this time getting the ham. Well we will make a batch of bean soup with that and I froze about 4 portions for meals later. So we spent about $17 on about 5 meal. Thanks for the comment.
So I guess $200/wk for 3 adults isn’t too bad. Seems crazy when back in 1977 I had $25 to put toward groceries for 2 adults per week. I usually was under just enough to get 2 orders of McDonald’s fries on the way home.
I buy frozen peas, broccoli and other vegetables. They are cheaper than canned ones and less sodium. Good for cooking in soups, stir frys and casseroles.
That is the emptiest Walmart I have ever seen!! LOL
It was crazy how slow it was for a Sunday.
After forgetting to turn the dome light off more than one time and getting back to the truck then waiting for someone that I could run my jump cords to so I could get going I decided to buy a jump kit, and it's come in handy more than a few times. Had to make the choice to either walk miles out to the main road to flag someone down in the dark or stick by the truck overnight, I stuck by the truck and slept in it overnight. Now I always keep a box in the back with everything I might need to spend a night, or two, in the truck.
Yes. Definitely get the will and power of attorney., etc. taken care of. It is a gift to the person or people who will take care of those things after one goes to (hopefully) glory. You’ve given us some good information! Thanks for sharing.
Merry Christmas Ron and family and community. 😊💕🥳
Same to you!
Great, informative video! You mentioned putting your medications in notes in iPhone. What is better, in an iPhone, is the Health app. The Health app is an apple product and is the pink box with the white heart on it. There, in the Medical ID section, you can put your health information, which can be accessed by emergency personnel without unlocking your phone (if you enable that feature). I am sure there is something similar for Android, but I do not know anything about it.
Those portable jump batteries are nice to have. Compared to the size of the car's lead acid battery, initially it's hard to believe they will work. But they kick butt. The 3rd light mode on the AX4000 looks like SOS. My (old) jump battery is about half of the size of that one. But it's nowhere near as fancy. I don't think they make the Cobra anymore. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the introduction very good job
Glad you liked it
I’m responsible for my aunt and her friend. They named me trustee and guardian without my knowledge. They are both in nursing home. It’s been difficult
What they should really do is rent a house. All the benefits of being in their own place, but their money says in investments that earn interest. Makes it easier to handle their estate once they pass, too.
Merry Xmas from Perth in Western Australia currently it is 41 degrees centigrade The fuel price here fluctuates 22cents every Tuesday is the cheapest day then it shoots up again At 6am Wednesday!! I do like listening to your accent and the content of course😊
Thank you so much and Merry Christmas to my friends down at the other end of earth. I guess it is summer time there. Wish it was here in Tennessee. 17 degree F this morning.
I deal with it exactly the same way as you. You are a realist. You say how the cow ate the cabbage, just like me. Don't sugar coat it be real. It is what it is.
I am a Common Sense-able type person. Comes from up bringing.
I disagree. Hospice is not necessarily a death sentence. My granddad was on and off several times in his nineties and died at 102. I think hospice is a seriously good thing.
I'll pray that you will find a living option for your parents that will be close to you, durable in severe storm winds and have a walk-in shower. Try to remind your mom that you want to take several days to consider what would be best for her health and safety and also a place that she would be happy in. Maybe give her reassurance that you won't give up. I'm glad that you received many comments with good advice, now sleep well 😊 70 y.o. from IL
Thank you. We are still thinking about options. For now, all is well with everyone. Happy Holidays.
LOL, Your subject title is getting longer and longer. You should give that online grocery ordering a try, having the groceries delivered to the house really came in handy for us for a while. Now I order the bulky items and regular weekly items online, pick them up at the pickup site then head into the store to pick out the few items that I want to look at before I buy them. It takes a bit to figure out the system so it's good to have it all set up and are familiar with it before you really need it.
Yes I did notice that. I have taken steps to reduce that. I may try the online Grocery shopping. For now I am going to change the day I do go. Perhaps Tuesday or Wednesdays
Merry Christmas fr the Prairies in Canada. -24C/-11F + wind. 3 inches of fresh snow last night on top of the 10+in already. Shovelling time! ❄☃❄
Happy holidays!
They sound adventuresome as long as they have something to look forward to doing that’s what they want to do they maybe is the thing that keeps them going
They are very adventurous.
It sounds like step-dad is depressed and would be unhappy anywhere.
You may have a point there. Depression can come in all sorts of flavors and sometimes hard to recognize.
Stuff will expand to fill the space you have.
Good stuff. I will add suggesting the parents use Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD) from RMDs to eliminate writing checks to charity all year, also reduces their taxes especially if only one parent alive. We also met with an Elder Law attorney who looked over all our legal documents you mentioned; worth every penny. Lastly, I would suggest you store all that safety deposit box in digital format - Fidsafe, Dropbox, or Google docs. If you can't find something, hurricane, tornado or need something and you are miles away, you can access it from your phone.
I’m about to retire at the end of January and I got to declutter everything I have lol and get use to having not as much income as when I worked so this video hit close to home thank you
Congrats on your pending retirement. I just started mine a few days ago. I have already quit setting my alarm clock.
@@TheRetirementGrooveyes shut down that alarm lol
@@frankfantazzi2045 It is. I will only use it if I NEED to get up early. LOL
Nice Video and pictures Ron. . I just retired in Nov. And bought a 23-foot travel trailer. I have had 3 pop-ups over the last 25 years. The camper keeps me busy and out of my wife's hair. Ya, they are some work, but they are worth it.
Very nice! I agree they are worth it. I love the solitude when I go camping
My wife and I watched your first video. We both said the same thing, leave her home and go yourself. I said I'd tear out the bunks also and fit it to your needs. Great job.
Thank you. I have been working on this camper to make it my own. I have some shelf's I cut myself to fit out of plywood to make somewhat of a nice little pantry area to carry my food in the trailer. I am also working on a new dinette table that is smaller and easier for me to handle. It's fun.
What a nightmare…
87 and hunting!?? Sounds like they are trying to piss through any money they have. I would get some advice…
Sounds like your parents are taking up as much of your time and energy and Patience that you allow… They are rediculous and Seek professional advice on this matter!
Are you keeping stuff that someone will want to inherit, probably no one wants it. Downsize!! Have you used it in the last 6 months. Get rid of the stuff.i just had an estate sale and am now living in my little camper. If I just really need something I got rid of i will buy new and improved. I just about wore my paper shredder out getting rid of papers I had saved from more than 20 years.
My thoughts exactly. Get rid of it.
I think having an estate sale is wonderful. After, the house was empty. I didn't make a lot but it was better than movers and how to get rid of the stuff. Movers cost money.
This care for your parents seems like a full-time job in itself.
There is some extra work involved. I think being a organized person yourself, will help when dealing with their daily items also.
really interesting and great information. Im in Europe but a lot of the information I will be able to use . I would also add that you need to have sort out your "Digital life" ... passwords for different accounts fb, instagram, youtube etc. Log in details for your laptop, phone etc. There are passwords for everything online now. Im sorting all mine at the moment and making a copy of things and im going to print them out and ahve them in my binder.
Didn't even think about the Digital Life. Thanks for recommending that.
16 foot camper is way too confining for two people. Should have rented one (bigger) first before buying.
Renting might have been the choice. I am limited in size tho. Should have bought a bigger tow vehicle. Maybe a Class A is in my future.
If your mother has had such a hard time with her hip surgery, it is no wonder they are in an uproar trying to figure out where to live, and how to manage. That is a major life stressor. No doubt they are extremely anxious. It doesn't necessarily mean they are getting dementia. Anytime an older adult gets upset or forgets something, it is first thing that people think. Given that you have taken over, they have become more dependent on you. It is no wonder they want to live in your backyard. I am not sure I would appreciate that kind of oversight. It is good to help but let them be competent adults. Honestly it doesn't sound like you trust them with anything.
Congratulations on your retirement.
Thank you!
I don’t need four doors or a seat warmer since I live in Florida. I don’t need all the add-ons and all the garbage that checks up the price. just need to get me from A to B and not breakdown that’s all I need. Anything over $30,000 is getting ridiculous.
Such great info! I am currently gathering info and filling in the blanks in a binder of "important information to gather" for my mom and also doing one for myself too. It's almost like a full-time job! It takes time and patience! Once you get settled you are going to LOVE retirement, it takes a bit, and you will still continue on with some habits that you acquired thru the years, but you have a lot of things that you like to do and by this next summer you're going to be so active you won't know how you ever had time to go to work. Congrats on your upcoming final day of "paid work".
Thank you. I have already made a small change. I haven't set my Alarm Clock in two days. I normally get up at 4am to go to work. Yesterday was 5:30 and this morning was 6:30. I never got enough sleep in the past. I guess my body is trying to tell me something now.
Your parents are lucky to have you. All the best to you, your wife, kids, and parents.....and to us all ✨😊✨.
Thank you for the nice comment. Take care.
Every time I hear about meeting with their replacements before retirment, I can't help but think about the movie About Schmidt. 😛
Funny
Seems like a tiny home is way too small, especially if someone ends up in a wheel chair.
Yes you may be correct. A Tiny Home to me is less than 1000sf. I use the term Tiny Home loosely. I Should say Small Home.
orignial medicare with a supplement cannot go up due to your medical expenses as a individual. But your plan and company or your zip code and inflation and age. And GREED. just saying.
It is their Plan G that has risen not the Medicare A or B.
The cost of our Medicare supplement goes up every year and we have few medical costs. But then, so does the cost of food.
We just have a calendar hanging up in our kitchen. I don’t like using my phone. But you are right- use a pencil. You won’t believe how many times the doctors offices call you and reschedule appointments. It’s very frustrating
I have a calendar like I talked about on the video at my desk. We also have one hanging on the wall in kitchen. We mainly use that one to write down stuff like Travel Plans, when one of use won't be home, etc......The one on my desk is more detailed and centered around my life. My wife has her own centered around her life.
Thanks Ron, good information.
You bet
Make your will, or a living trust ASAP 😊 It's so important. Also longterm care insurance is a godsend. That is alot of sensitive info to keep on the phone and it can be wonderfully helpful and convenient . But, since it is such sensitive info pls make sure you have a strong password and maybe keep that stuff in a hidden folder if possible. Thanks for all the great tips! 😊
Yes great Idea. Most people have simple passwords on their phones. iPhone's have Face Detect which may help with that.
You need to get advice about irrevocable trust. Then a will in the trust. Medicaid is a bug
Please do not wait
Thank you. Good idea.
Can your wife turn her phone into a data hotspot? As to missing parents taking a wrong turn on I95 and ending up in NJ instead of FL. Perhaps take mug shots of the car (front, rear, sides (especially if there is un repaired damage or a goofy bumper sticker). It's smart to know the parents tag number but cops can quickly figure that out, just by name and address. You might want to snap a few shots of your folks as well. full body shot and mug shot type photos..as many photos of missing people are a few years old and their appearance may have changed recently.
All good idea's. Thanks I will see about doing more.
