It's impressive how uncultured the gamingsphere is, and I blame this on "Influencers" only going for what's trending at the moment, not the public itself, they're just the victims in this... Good you're doing something to change that at least bro.

But while I'm here, I would like to point out a key factor that you (and many others playing this game) have forgotten. This game came with an instruction manual. I think the only version of the manual that doesn’t tell you how to swing on chains is the Bundle ICO + SOTC PS3 Remaster's manual. Now, of course, there is still immense value in being able to convey controls within the medium of the game. They definitely could've done more in this respect. But I think usage of the manual was important to these devs who were primarily coming from an Amiga gaming background. That console was a computer, so of course it required you to read a manual to operate it. Same went for its games. Another World didn’t prompt you onscreen to kick those freaky little bugs on the 2nd screen, but the manual did. There was something about the experience of leaving the game free of these prompts, and entrusting the player to seek answers in the packaging, that I think the devs wanted for this game. In 2001, as greenhorns to the industry, they could not have predicted just how swiftly the usage of secondary materials would fall out of practice. They did not anticipate the extinction of the gaming manual, both from the physical standpoint, but also the mental standpoint. A lot of people on backloggd have similar gripes because they didn't seek out the information that game owners of the early 2000's had at their fingertips. 34:31 Also this is actually in the North American version as well. Exactly as you described. You too can get the Mace. The only thing you are locked out of is the New Game Plus variant. 38:31 I'm actually fairly sure you can cross the pipes in that section. At least in the final version, if not the US PS2 version. It leads to frustration, of course, because solving it just faces you with a boarded up door, forcing you back down the slide. 45:43 Oh this is a fun coincidence! So cool to see people naturally stumble on these design choices! 50:27 It is still pretty tight, but there is actually room for error if you move the statues back all the way. Ico can pull them in any direction like crates, using the small handles near their base. It's hard to believe this is your first major video essay project like this. You have such a good tone in your narration and the script was really entertaining and informative. The room transitions hit each time, with great music picks and effects. I appreciated how, after the first gauntlet of cutscenes, you let every scripted moment speak for itself. This is a great video, thank you so much for the effort you put into it.

I played the demo to this game on a ps2 in Walmart when they had the tvs so high up you had to break your neck. Kids these days don't know

Really good video I was always fascinated by Ico after I watched my brother play a demo of it but it scared me as a kid so I never ended up getting it myself lol. Also side note, what a score getting Steambot Chronicles, I bought that game on a whim as a kid and only recently played it but it ended up being one of my fave ps2 games. It has so much charm I hope you play it and do a video on it like this

youtube just got me to you, randomly. this is an awesome video! quality is great, content is 1 hour! and as of what ive seen, its the first "proper" upload, well congrats, its great! i thought, the name rang a bell. my dad, back in the earlier 2000s, brought home like a bushel of games, every month. 4,5 at a time. very random stuff, that ive never heard of. a bunch of gems, like summoners (or something along the lines), Grandia (beautiful game, awesome story and gameplay) or time splitters. aswell as ICO, but not with the european cover. i dont know how or where he got them, since hes just a police officer and had, at that time, nothing to do with "gaming". because of the boxart, i never cared for it. it collected dust on the TOP top of my closet until one day, when i cleaned my room and threw it out. your video brought back nice memories, not of the game, but the time then. if i try, i almost cant remember anything at all, whats been 2-3 years (or more) in the past. so it flashed me in the first 50 seconds and i had some stuff from back then, like the stuff with the games. it sounds weird, but thanks alot for that. i cant imagne, how much work goes into this typ of video, but would love some more, maybe not an hour (because of how much time it would take you)

I loved Ico and SOTC. I had such high hopes for the Last Guardian, but it never captured that same feeling. Thanks for bringing me back to a time, even if only briefly.

"you hit square, thats [...]" not all about it! I mean, this game has no tutorial so theres really no way we can discover that alone but: Ico blocks enemies attacks. If a shadow is going to hit you, turn into them. Ico automatically blocks attacks from enemies in front of him. Shadows know they can't get you that way, so they try to get your back... stay with Yorda and back facing the shadows. They will push, and thats where you attack. Ico doesn't move for too long when falls, but shadows are quick to get up when they fall. If you press as many buttons as you can, as fast as its possible, Ico will get up faster, taking the same time a shadow does (showing theyre always trying their best to get up)

The music feels so vast and surreal. I love it.
