The easiest way to fix your shifter play no tools needed | Fj Cruiser | automatic transmission
Step guide
1. Unscrew the shift knob
2. Remove the center console by pulling the rear part of the plastic
3. Remove the small panel at the bottom of the handbrake
4. Remove the shifter cover by pulling the lock (careful not to break the lock)
5. By pushing the shift lock button move the lever to L to gain access to the shifter cable (if you don’t remove the shifter cover it will be hard to access the shifter cable eyelet as the black plastic will cover the bottom part of the shifter)
6. Install the rubber bush into the shifter cable eyelet ( it will be more easy to put it back to the pin than the one I did on the video 🤦🏻♂️)
7. Install back all the parts that you removed
Please note that the oem rubber bush alone is not available in any autoparts store in my area unless you will buy the whole shifter cable kit.
You can find this bush in used autoparts store or scrap yard just to show to them the video where the bush is installed, most of the Japanese automatic transmission cars has the same part like this.

How did you get that white plastic off? Mine has a cable from the yellow button that prevents me from lifting it over the shifter. After that there's another black piece surrounding. My bushing is gone but I'm stuck at the white plastic.
Tracy Luljak Hi. You dont need to remove that white plastic cover, just shift your lever to 2 or L then you can reach the eyelet of the cable. The yellow button you are saying is a light bulb to illuminate the gear indicator 😊
Follow the instructions on the video and you can finish it in less than 15minutes

What speeds and what gears do you drive?
Hi.I used 4H on 1st and 2nd gear on this drive.

@@jerincherian4164 on this video I didn’t use the 4Lo as the type of the drive we had is more on open and speed also the sand is not to soft as you can see on the video theres not much sands flying around. I used 4lo only on a tricky condition such as if the sand is really soft and if the drive is more on technical type where I need more power than speed. Hi may i what gear you solely use in this dune, 4h or 4l and what was the tire pressure.
Hi depends on the type of drive, if more on technical like tight and quite sharp turns I mostly use 4L with 3rd and 4th gear to cope with the power. Then I do 4H on fast pace type of drive with 1st-3rd gear. BUT still depends also if the sand is really soft(loose) so you have to try both which will suites you. Tire pressure is 9-10psi rear and 10psi front. I have steelies so I’m always careful with the turns to avoid pop out.
What modify you have done with FJ ?
Hi! Only stage1 lift kit, snorkel and steelies rims!😉I really prefer the stock look of the Fjs 😃
Is the engine modified ?
Hi! No its not. Totally stock, Fj stock engines are really capable for doing any off-roading activities.
Which gear do you use over dune and speed ?
Hi! Depends on the type of track we are going, for the open spaces I usually used 1st-3rd (4H) and for tight technical track and a really soft sand I used 3rd-4th (4Lo). But of course proper momentum is the key to get on the crests safely.😃
@@iandilag5425 I think for Lo gear have max allowed speed 15 Mph ? Is that correct ?
@@urangsirih8451 No, you can still go till 50kmph without any issues as long as you don’t keep on red line for a long period of time. If your on 4Lo use 3rd whenever you feel you need more power and keep pumping on the gas pedal.
