how come when i place the hairs theyre really small and dont look like yours?
When you're using the hair generator, are you able to manually change the materials that it's using through the shader editor?
Hi! Yes, you can. You can create whatever material you wish and set the Hair Material to 3, which is a custom material. From there you can do whatever you wish.
Is it possible in the form of a plane mesh?
Hi! Yes, you can create whatever format you desire. If you want a plane, you can just create a straight line in the profiles collection and select it in the Profile of the hair. Just be careful with the normals of the mesh, since that will not be water tight!
If this thing could create bones and weight paint, this would be perfect.
Bones are very specific to each use case, but a generic option would indeed be really cool!
@@virtual-lords anyway, used your link.
@@FuwuVR Thank you very much! This helps a lot! And I'm glad you liked the add-on and hopefully the video too 🥰🥰
Thank you.
Is this an add on?
Yes! It's an addon called Behemox Hair Generator. I have a full guide on my channel showing how to use it!
I've tried to achieve these results with geometry nodes to some effect but I could never figure out a way to use a curve to define the bevel of the hair curves like you can with bezier curves. So annoying it seems like a no brainer feature but I guess its more complicated to acheive under the hood.
this plugin should be standard in Blender
Exactly! Thank goodness it exists! 🥰
good
Thanks! 😊
Well it probably is better than the old fashion way…but it still not just “one click”. The steps you need to go through just to get to the point if making hair…is a lot. It’ll be one click when I can simply select where I want the hair….”click”….and there’s hair in that spot.
Hi, Nicholson. Well it is one click, and you could do that. This is how Rick did it on our last video. This one was more complete to explain a better way and the tools. You could just select the head and click create hair, like I said in the video. ☺️
Follow up: Oh, the only real irk I have right now is that I cannot get the materials (for natural looking hair) to export with the hair .obj file. I don't really use nodes very well. I don't know if it is a nodes issue, or just a step I am skipping somewhere....but when I export my .obj files, I always have the Export Materials function checked. In this case though, the hair texture files did not export along with it. Helllllllllllllllp! :D
Hello! This is not particular to the add-on, it's something that has to do with how Blender and even other 3D softwares generate custom material properties. Basicaly, the default material is generated "procedurally" in order to give the gradient effect and correct UV mappings, so you can't export them like you would a very simple material without any effect. If you try to export it like this with any 3D software you will have this problem. That's because they each use a different system for setting up dynamic properties like the colors if you use a more complex pattern. I believe the easiest way would be to bake the material as a texture and use that instead, or apply a new custom material after you convert your hair to mesh and go from there. You could try to replicate the behavior, but I believe it's easier to either bake the textures or create a new one after converting to mesh, if you are not very experienced with this like you said. I hope I could help!
To export .obj files you have to use a material with all properties predefined, and then you have the baked textures and other info, like a baked rough map or normal map. Even if you just want to use vertex color you break obj compatibility, and you would have to use ply instead.
This indeed became a game changer for me. Relatively inexpensive add on compared to Hair Tool or Hair Brush, and a very flexible system. Precisely what I was looking for. Thanks for the quick tutorial.
Thank you for the feedback! I'm happy to know it was helpful 😊
@@virtual-lords Way beyond helpful. I used to use VRoid Studio (free anime character creator program, with its own hair tools), but styling was a PITA. With Behemox, styling is a breeze...especially when used in conjunction with premade basis hair meshes from Reallusion Character Creator 3.
Loving this add on so far. I tried creating a technique similar to this several months ago, before I knew of the existence of this add on, and of course, I'm not very well versed in spiderwebs of geometry nodes. I was trying to make a technique that used as few GN's as possible. I had posted a tutorial but skipped a critical step somewhere, and took it down. So, if this is your add on, thank you for figuring this out,and making this add on, and thank you for the tutorial. :) This add on is PRECISELY what I was looking for, and waiting for Blender to make the configurations that have been made in this program. This is well worth the relatively inexpensive cost. Again, thank you all! What is really cool is that this seems to work fairly well with the hair mesh creations when I make use the Auto Headshot mode in Character Creator 3 (from Reallusion)., I can put a face on an avatar mesh, and the Auto Headshot will create a hair mesh (with very sloppy geometry) to use as a basis/surface for the hair style to be made in Behemox. In the short time I've been using this add on, there is already not enough good I can say about it. When used in conjunction with the hair meshes created by Character Creator 3's Auto Headshot functioon, and using the "collision" icon when combing the hair, it works magnificently.
It's great to know you're liking it and that it's being helpful to you 😁 I'm not the one who actually developed the add-on, but I'm glad to know it gelped! Thank you so much for the feedback!
@@virtual-lords My pleasure. Thank you for the great tutorial. I was able to create three variants of a hairstyle (DRY, Shock Wet, and Slick wet) in a very short time, and it turned out pretty darned good, especially when I transferred it over to Character Creator 3 and iClone 7.
@@saintelmo5590 Awesome! I'd love to see the results. Do you have an instagram or a page where I could see the results?
@@virtual-lords Deviantart genchang2112. I'm getting ready to post the image now. I didn't use any texturing for the hair...I just gave it a base color, and then applied the Digital Hair filter to it. Gonna add a shout out for this add on in my description. Tell ya what, I already have one shot of her up with my previous hair attempt just using curves (regular curves, not hair curves). In a few minutes my new take will be up, and you can catch the difference. :) They both will be images of my 3D version of actress/singer Jennette McCurdy ( who played Sam Puckett on iCarly and Sam and Cat)
That's perfect! I will be waiting for the results 😊
So much better than trying and dying with Paths and curves to make hair 😩
Exactly! It shouldn't be that hard 🤔

Why not just make a 30 minutes step by step tutorial for doing a long hair style with your tool, best way to convince us to buy ^^
Hi. That's a great suggestion! The only issue is that it doesn't even take that long to create hair with the BHG. I am making a full video guide on all features and then I will post a tutorial creating a hair style. Which character or style of hair would you like to see me creating hair for?
The newest version 2.0 came out and you can now create fully customizable braids and hair cards!

@@virtual-lordsCool, mate! Thanks again🍀🍀
Two questions, can I duplicate the hair strand? How I stop the old strand from moving when interaction with the new strand?
Hi, Marcelo! Sure! You can select which strands to sculpt using the Paint Selection tool, or you can go to edit mode with the hair selected and choose the curve you want to edit. This is my preferred approach to make fine adjustments. I just go to the edit mode and select a point in the curve and press CTRL + L to select all points connected. 😉 As for the duplication, you can't really "duplicate" so to say, but once you set the properties like hair length and points, you can just use the add brush to create a new one and easily brush it to your desired position.
To select a single point, you can also press A twice (to select and deselect) and then add a new strand, and only that strand will be selected. This is a faster way to add and edit a single hair strand.
I will be releasing a guide with tips to create more advanced styles and workflows, along with a video tutorial, so stay focused! 😁
@@virtual-lords The select curve in edit mode is a really fast way to work, I can select single, group or all, really fast. Thank you.
Howdy! thank you for this amazing add-on! Just a heads up to others, be sure to use a 3. version of blender for this to work. beyond that, its a great purchase, thanks for saving me loads of time Lord rick
Wow! That's great to hear! You have no idea how much this means to us 🥰🥰🥰 Thank you very much for your feedback. Soon we will have even more features coming for those who bought it! 🤩
It's now available for version 4.0 as well!
Can this hair be used in unity (with gravity)?
Yes, sure! Whenever you are done modeling your hair, you can click on "Convert Hair to Mesh" and export it to whatever platform you want. You just need to follow the standard workflow for exporting 3D models to the Game Engine of your choice, including Unity. Beware that adding physics and different behaviors are specific to the game engine you are using, so you might need to add bones and rig the hair if you want this type of behavior in Unity.
Looks like a great addon with a lot of potential but the lack of any documentation or an in depth workflow/tutorial is really needed before I'd consider buying. Especially when there are already similar (and cheaper) tools such as Stylized Hair Pro out there.
Thanks for the feedback! We really appreciate it. The Behemox Hair Generator has a big difference in the way the hair is built and managed when compared to existing addons. The Behemox Addon uses the hair tool instead of manually added curves. This approach allows you to brush multiple hair strands with ease, increase and decrease the length and many more awesome utilities that other addons don't currently support.
Also, we are currently developing in depth documentation and tutorials that will be shared with everyone who already bought the addon and those who will still buy it. We are also planning on creating a few characters using this tool to show how easy it is to create stylized hair with it 😁
Hi! We've just released with version 2.0 a document describing every feature in depth! 🎉 And it also comes with the ability to create customizable braids and hair cards 😊
this would be very useful if you combine this with the hair tool addon for doing hair cards
Hey. That's a great suggestion! They work differently and have different styles, but we might be able to come up with something like that in the future 😉

this looks promising, but i would like to see a bit more of the workflow and to see a bit more use cases(like a demo if you using it)
Hi! Thank you for commenting. Yeah, we are planning a video on this, on which we create a full character using the addon. It's as simple and fast as it looks 😊
Amazing!
Glad you liked it! This is indeed an amazing addon!
