Wonderful restoration. I'm guessing in the production of the vid, a LUT was applied that turned the red to a primer brown?

For anyone interested in restoring these cars, apparently I heard a rumor (and saw pictures of) there being 3 P1800s and some other volvos just sitting in a field outside of Java, south dakota, so if someone lives close to there in the US, find out who owns them and save them :)

It's weird that the Europeans are now mostly also doing what they used to call "American style restorations", where the the car is assembled finished much better than when the came out of the factory. I remember European car enthusiasts saw it as "Not faithful to the original".

I wonder if any car restoration company could hot dip galvanize the entire repaired body to give it an ultimate means of fighting rust in the future. Galvanized was not co.mon on cars back then, that's why they rusted so badly and so soon. Paints do not really seal the sheet steel from the elements 100% as they are mostly organic. That's why you could still get rust under a good paint job. In contrast, the zinc in galvanizing will actively fight off any rust that might start developing on the steel.

At what cost?

You certainly made a wonderful job of Andrew's car, one that I've known over the years. However the camera work is very poor compared with the car restoration. It constantly flashes from one bit to another and you can't follow anything that's being done. Also that music is terrible.

Thanks to share such a high end restoration and show us the difficulty to restore like it has to be done... It change of TV programs the show some people that "restore" cars in 40 hours and make profits doing it. Those cars of the 60's are just true jewels compared with ugly SUV that company produce actually. The line of the Volvo P1800 is gorgeous. Italian designers were the best at that period !

really boring video, ridiculous epic music for sheet metal work, multiple pointless edit cuts, so pompous, over importance and the start "a film by...." LOL it's a TH-cam video on par with kittens being cute videos, get over yourselves.

The video is brilliant ,superb in fact. The restoration sublime and of a standard seen only from the finest artisans. I owned this car, the Saints version as a young man,that is to say it was white with red leather interior. Mine was rather like this vehicle it was also deeply set in with years of rust although appearing quite solid. I had done a body off restoration of a classic 57 Chev and felt I could give it a go. As I had another love in my life , married her, I chose a path least resistance and outlay of cash. I ground down rust bashed in panels riveted tin and best of all a gallon or two of Bondo lovingly, artfully applied. The results amazed a neighbour who lent me his spray booth. The paint job was excellent. Of course this was to be a terminal case. The marriage survives. Greater for me was the joy of seeing my beautiful blonde wife take it to her job and impress the men while I worked in the studio at home, not to be eclipsed. One caveat I wish to endorse ; this being the Saints car it surely is meant to be white and pure as the Nordic winter with a heart of fire The red exterior is for our southern Latin friends. Cheers

A tremendous amount of work. Although my research shows that for a 1964 the front crossmember is painted to match the body colour instead of painted grey which began in 1966.

It would’ve been nice to see the owner drive off with the restored Volvo P 1800.

What i learned dealing with British doing this or any kind of job that needs precision , There must be a shed in the middle of nowhere ,They are expensive ,they are slow , some got also a right attitude even if you are the one who pays them but ....the end result is what you paid for and more ! By the way the Editing of the video is amazing well done to who ever made it !

Nice work. As a decient backyard auto body guy myself ...can you tell me what kind of primer you use, what kind of paint do you use ? Do you like the 2k epoxy primer ? And do you prefer block sanding? (the curved body lines of the 356 everything has to flow . I’ve done all my sheet metal work ( welding) and now I’m about to start my body work Can I ask ; what type of rust killer, ( ospho, etc) did you use ? And did you do the “ led tinning” tgat the factory did? Or did you use modern type body filler? I have rust creeping through the old primer and paint . So what do you use to kill this type of rust . Thanks fir your vid and reply🤙🏽
