Best stud finder, Franklin Sensors 710, Professional Contractor Review
I was super excited when I first got this and used it because the features are awesome. But now it will not turn on. It’s maybe 2 months old, and lives safely in a tool box. I’ve tried to use it three times since the initial use and each time it won’t work. I put new batteries in it once and it worked for that one time, then died again. The only thing I can think is that it’s somehow draining these brand new batteries while not in use. I’m using brand new Energizers and even put them in a battery tester to make sure they were fully powered. But if the stud finder sits for a few days or a week then it will not work with the next use. The features don’t do much good if the unit is unable to turn on when it’s needed, or if it needs a new set of batteries every time you want to use it.
how can you tell if its metal instead of stud?
Hi! Our stud finders will detect any change in density (wood or metal) but cannot differentiate between them.
@@franklinsensors8246 Thanks buddy!
Can this use rechargeable Lithium batteries
Hi! Yes it can. 😊
Great review of these stud finders. Thank you!
We're glad it was helpful! 😊
Why would you guys not have live wire detection on your new flagship device? Bummer.
I have one of these and the switch appears to have broken. The microswitch on the PCB is dead. Can you let me know the part number that is used for this microswitch so I can source a replacement and solder it in?
Hi Andrew! We can send you a new lid with a switch free of charge. Can you reach out to support@franklinsensors.com or call us at (208) 918-2403 so we can get your shipping info?
@franklinsensors8246 that would be amazing. But I'm in Australia. Still possible? Or is there a contact here I can get in touch with?
@@andrewford80 If you got your unit from Ozito/Bunnings, you can get a replacement under warranty from them. Otherwise, reach out to us and we will ship it to you. 😊
@@franklinsensors8246 I tried contacting that support email address and nobody has gotten back to me. So I ask once again, can you or anyone else tell me the part number for the microswitch so I can source on and fix this stud finder?
1800mm version?
Hi! We currently don't offer that size, I'm sorry. 😔
Thank you for sharing this. Very helpful!
I have one led light blinking
Hi! Is it the second LED from the right? If so, that's the low battery indicator.
@@franklinsensors8246I too have a single red blinging light 2nd from the right. It's never been used yet, I changed batteries, wouldn't work again, and put new out of the packaging batteries in and it still has one flashing red light. Any ideas??
@ That's strange! Can you give us a call or email us at (208) 918-2403 or support@franklinsensors.com so we can help?
Just bought a M150...and there is a green led light that goes on... Anyone has any idea what's the green light for?
The green light indicates the center of the stud. 😊
@franklinsensors8246 ty for your response. I Google and in Google it says is the edge of the stud... I guess Google is wrong.
Shit don't work
Oh no! Can you reach out to our customer service so we can help? Phone: (208) 918-2403. Email: support@franklinsensors.com
What’s the difference between the M210 and X2100?
The X2100 just looks slightly different and is a Lowe's exclusive. 😊
Perfect thank you! Is the M210/X2100 the top model offered right now?
@@tomsollecito9609 The M210/X2100 is our top-rated model. We do have a newer stud finder, the MAX, designed for more specialized uses such as finding studs through tile. But if you're working through drywall or plaster, we'd recommend the M210/X2100.
Just picked one up! Did they recently change the button on the X2100 to yellow instead of the metal/chrome? Making sure I don’t pick up a knockoff or something
@@tomsollecito9609 Yes we did. You got the real deal. 🙂
Sorry but will this work on old plaster like walls? Got a house made in the 40s and the plaster is rather thick in some walls and finding where to put screws to hang a TV is difficult
Hi! I'm so sorry we missed your comment. We haven't designed the M210 for plaster, but many customers have reported success with it. We have another stud finder, the ProSensor MAX, which works through plaster. It's available at Lowe's.
Such a shit design for the battery compartment

What does it mean if only 1 LED ever lights up, 3rd from the right?
Hi! It could be a programming issue. Can you give us a call at (208) 918-2403 or email us at support@franklinsensors.com so we can help?
I like the stud finder but this is a joke. Different sensitivity for different jobs, give me a break. Either it's level or it's not
This level is actually unreal. Been using it on site for a while now. Perfect for low light environments, particularly under crawl spaces when restumping a house. Rate it highly to be honest. Also, the lights are based on degrees which is ideal for replicating falls, so it is in fact really good for varying levels, whether true level or sloped . Easier to reference the same fall using the led strip than it is to gauge using a bubble
I am a Korean resident. When I try to access the Lowe's website, I get a message saying 'Access Denied,' and I can't access the site. Is it working properly in the U.S.? I even tried to purchase through a proxy shopping service, but they also couldn't complete the payment on the Lowe's site, so the transaction was canceled. Do you have any plans to sell the Max model on Amazon to make it more accessible? I can easily buy American products on Amazon.
Hi! Yes, we actually just added the MAX to Amazon last week! Here is the link: amzn.to/3YvMQiZ
The MAX model cannot be purchased anywhere. None of the purchase locations listed on your website (from Amazon to ACMT TOOLS) are selling this model. Could you please provide the link to a store where I can purchase this model?
It is available at Lowe's.
What model has the green center indicator?
The ProSensor M210 has this now. The green center indicator is a recent update we made to the model, so older units will not have this.
Has anyone tried using this on plaster walls yet, and can you verify if it actually works?
Yes it does
It works on plaster and drywall, yes.
I wanted to post a picture but I can't herr I wish I could I just spent money on it x995 at Lowe's tried to use it on my roof to find studs and it failed me ended up using a hammer and doing some tapping 😕
This shhhh didnt work. I drilled straight through my drywall!
dumb idiot
Dumbest shit I’ve used so inaccurate got holes all in my wall trying to follow this shit
Piece of junk
Is there a version that detecks water/electricity?
Hi Dan! The MAX does not detect water or electricity. Our M210 and M150 models have live wire warning but don't detect water.
@@franklinsensors8246what's the best sensor is it the max?
But does it detect wires and steel!!!! Pathetic that you dont state this yet you say its best out there
Thanks for pointing that out. Yes it doesn't find steel studs. Steel is more dense than wood so it will sense it even more deeply. As a for wires, I think you are just used to bad stud finders because if you know where the center and edge of the studs are, you know where the wire is. It is either to the side of the stud or if it is running horizontally through the stud, there will be plates in front of those areas, preventing you from penetrating through the stud and into a wire. If you still want more confirmation about the location of wires, I highly recommend the M210. You'll love it. I hope you have a better day. 🙂
@@karengarcia1256 well i looked up the m210 and that doesent detect steel… these are so expensive yet not even a all in one device like most
Great info tyfs
Battery must to remove after use to protect the led light?
No. They can stay in. Some people do like to remove them but it isn't necessary.
Press button with 3 fingers same time left, right and middle?
It doesn't matter, just as long as the button is pressed.
Have to keep pressing the button to check from either left, right or button?
The button is just one piece so it doesn't matter where you press it. Just press and HOLD the button to operate.
@@karengarcia1256 Thankyou
My m10 never lights up green, only red
All lights light up wtf does that mean?
Does anyone know why my Franklin censor stopped working. Replaced the batteries but no luck love this tool.
Only works with alkaline batteries
But does it Beep!?! 😂
How do you turn off the T9? Also, you should make the non-rechargable battery issue much more prominent on your packaging.
Mines don’t turn on either !!!!!!!!!!
Brand new one, literally just doesnt work. So dissapointing
Same. Other sensors have been great. This one was a complete waste of money. Literally useless.
Mine works.... Dunno what you guys are on about. Just admit you don't know how to use it?
@@GreigaSP just brought one and didn't work had to return
It may be the best stud sensor in the world but I will never know. Ordered the one M-150 off of Amazon, and it got here and wouldn't work. So, I went online to figure out what the problem was. In the vid about replacing the battery, they tell you that IT WILL ONLY WORK WITH A 1.5V ALKALINE BATTERY and CANNOT BE RECHARGEABLE because they are 1.2 V. WHY wasn't that said in big type on the Amazon page?! As we are over an hour from any town, we try to have everything rechargeable. Saves lots of long trips to town !!! I would not have bought the thing if I had known that. I am madder than a wet hen !
I'm from a small town that is about an hour away from town. I get it. That's frustrating. I know it doesn't make it better right now, but we are working to get all our units changed to be able to accept rechargeable batteries but it is still a good 12-18 months out. I'm sorry this was so frustrating for you.
@@karengarcia1256 I do appreciate your response.
Stop buying rechargeable junk. Alkaline batteries are dirt cheap.
what is the green light for? It rarely lights up.
What you are exactly on center the center green LED lights up.
This should be called "How it's SUPPOSED to work:---useless.
I bought AN M10 FRANKLIN STUD FINDER....USED IT NOW A NUMBER OF TIMES BUT ITS SENSITIVITY IS POOR AT BEST.
@arthur0enns while I'm supposed to love all my product children equally, the M10 is my least favorite. It is our only unit that requires calibration and human nature gets in the way of accuracy. I'd recommend an M70 or better.
How do you install battery it doesn't seem to pop out
I bought this pile of shit and returned it
Mam, you did not mention how to avoid AC wires and pipes
Don’t buy this. Worked only a few times. Started having very faint lights so thought batteries were dead so I tried some of my new lithium batteries and still didn’t work, went out and bought regular AAs and still doesn’t work. This thing is junk. Never buy Hart. I also bought drill bits by hart a few months ago and they snapped when drilling WOOD!
I just cancelled my order for an M210. The inability to take rechargeable batteries is a deal breaker for me. If the stud finder wont operate properly with 1.2V cells then it will likely not operate properly through the full discharge curve of an alkaline battery either. This is a sign of a poor power regulator design. Also stating that more sensors means a better stud finder is simply not true. The quality and specifications of the sensors matters tremendously and there are many excellent units available that have very few sensors. I will reconsider your products once the power regulator issue is fixed. They do seem to be well reviewed.
I use the m10 and I’ve never failed to find the stud! And I just mounted my tv 👍🏽 10/10
I bought this and drilled 3 holes In a freshly painted wall and still couldn't find the stud!!!!
Does it detect metal studs good?
Yes sir it does.
