    Why? Why would you spend half a video talking about a golf course, a wine farm and a fishing village when you are suppose to highlight the importance of the wetland. No mention of the fact that the one bank is of critically endangered renosterveld with endemic and critically endangered species or which fish species and migratory birds occur…I am speechless

    • @saramsar
      @saramsar ปีที่แล้ว

      The goal/purpose of the SA Ramsar project was "... to promote Ramsar wetlands as potential eco-tourism destinations". That is stated in the "About" section of the TH-cam channel. That creates a big gap for you to follow up with a video about the traits that you refer to. I'm looking forward to see that.

    • @Fynbosfanatic
      @Fynbosfanatic ปีที่แล้ว

      The emphasis being eco. People fly from around the world to see the okavango delta for the animals and flora not to play golf. I will reiterate that a successful campaign does not focus on Human Resources, but on the ecological uniqueness of the site. I can drink wine in Stellenbosch, golf anywhere in SA, but I cannot observe critically endangered flora anywhere else. I can’t see such a vast array of waterbirds in the general vicinity. My point is if you want to promote a Ramsay site start with its uniqueness.

    terrible video, the hellishly loud muzak destroys the voice. Can't these idiots learn that we come here to listen and see the otherwise well-presented info about the park, not to be annoyed by yet another nitwit video maker. How nice would it be if the quiet voice pauses were actually quiet and only bird sounds would be heard.

      I am an amateur videographer, making informative videos as a hobby. In this case I made a series of videos to promote the Ramsar wetlands in Southern Africa as potential tourist destinations. I am not being paid and embarked on the project by own initiative. In hind sight, I have to agree that the music is too loud, and that I could have used more ambient sound. This video was produced in 2015. Over time I learnt and hopefully my videos improved. I don't see any of your own videos on your TH-cam account. Would like to see what I can learn from you. By the way: please use a spell checker when publishing comments on a public forum.

    This video was taken in 2014, and you are being completely hoodwinked .. the only reason there is water in the vlei at this time is because despite all local and disaster management warnings, the Western Cape Government decided to go ahead with rebuilding the causeway bridge over the Verloren river near Elands Bay. Locals and Disaster Management warned that winter rains would jeopardise the process, but the contractor went ahead. Above average rainfall fell and coffer dams had to be built to avoid flooding and damage to building. Damming of the natural flow caused excessive silting and flooding, hence the artificially full vlei. I have extensive dated footage of the bridge works. The makers of this video cannot have avoided seeing them on the road from Slangkop to the southern side of the vlei. The selective use of beauty shots without context makes this video a very sad attempt at justifying an ecological disaster area. Shame on RAMSAR for going along with it. Today the vlei is a salty mud puddle with ever encroaching reeds, and the illegal damming of all streams upstream in all four catchments has deprived it of water even in years of average rainfall.

      @saramsar 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good Day Nick, You are right, we filmed this during 2014. The goal of the SA Ramsar project (www.saramsar.com) was to promote Ramsar wetlands as potential tourist destinations - not from a conservation point of view. We discussed this during our visit to you and Felicity at the time of filming. I am aware that you are experiencing many challenges. All the best.

    • @VleiRatFilms
      @VleiRatFilms 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@saramsar Gotcha .. thing is as one who has seen the devastation of virtually all wetlands around us, encouraging tourism at a resource that is no longer functioning is misleading .. not your fault I grant. I feel telling people how it is regardless of the consequences makes sense at this time. All governments local and national need to stop lying to us all for the sake of 'tourism' opportunities that disappoint when reached. Best to you too.

    • @johandeklerk3401
      @johandeklerk3401 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not an expert but it looks like a Spekboom to me. There is a challenge in SA to plant them, for the following reasons (I quote from another source): "1)absorbs the highest amount of carbon dioxide when compared to any other plant in existence. 2)highly water-wise, needing up to half the water of other plants to survive. 3)can live up to 200 years and has the ability to adapt to its surroundings. 4)nutritious". I don't know why the Chinese like them so much, maybe because the like SA so much...moving in everywhere.
