Between Jung and Evagrius with Dr. Matthew Milliner
This was a wild conversation. Matt Milliner, Professor of Art History at Wheaton College, came on to discuss the intersection between Jungian thought and Christianity. Matt dispenses an impressive bibliography. He also provides a TH-cam first with exposing Jung's hubris via a comment Jung once made some years ago.

The Gist with Joe: An introduction
มุมมอง 252ปีที่แล้ว
Thanks for watching this introduction to my new channel!
I must confess I wrote the previous comment before having watched the full video, I have now finished the conversation and it was absolutely fascinating! Thank you so much Both your stories resonated so deeply with me, one particular moment when Joes said something along the lines of “part of me wishes I could spend my days reading and listening to podcasts all day” particularly so! Wonderful conversation
Really interesting conversation guys! You're both very impressive, Joe can I ask where you are training to become a therapist?
I’ve been absolutely devouring John’s multiple series. The episode with you was especially beautiful! I want to encourage your idea of camping trips. I’m specifically looking for this type of journey and a great way to learn the ecology of practices John encourages. God bless & guide you.
48:52 -John's answer filled my heart with love ❤️ He is a legend and has created a truly amazing legacy, he has blessed many and has been a blessing and has been blessed to be and to do and to bless others in a way that they too can be a blessing to others. God bless your heart John ❤️ Thank you for all your time and attention. Thank you for being a teacher to me and many others, thank you for being a reliable source of knowledge and understanding and wisdom. Thank you for being an amazing role model and example. Thank you for living your life in a way that demonstrates to others and inspires them. Thank you for the many lives you have saved and the deaths you have prevented. Thank you for educating me and many others. I am grateful to have been alive at the same time as you. You played an Integral part in my life, Sir. Sending so much love ❤️ God bless your heart ❤️
Great convo Joe! Looking forward to future content!
That was great! I’m toward the end of my schooling for mental health counseling and resonates a lot with the things you said. Thank you for making this.
This is great. Please use any ideas in this video in your practice!
Just discovered your channel, Joe. Your questions to John touched on things I had also been wondering. You were sensitive and clearly asking in kindness and good faith. Thank you to John for the personal insights you afforded us. I think we all benefit from a well resourced Dr. Vervaeke. Undeniably, there is a personal cost extracted for his efforts and he deserves material support both individually and for his project.
Thanks so much for the kind words!
Nice!!! Thank you Joe and John
Chezi, Thanks, brother. Hope all is well!
@@gistwithjoe missing you at Bible study come share your wisdom
@@chezispero3533 what is the day and time again? I would love to start coming regularly!
@@gistwithjoe Wednesday at 7 is Hebrew bible study
Love it. I Start studying psychotherapy in September (UK) and I'm a big fan of Johns work. Philosophical/'Spiritual' counselling is really interesting, watched Johns talks with Rick. I'm going to keep it in mind as a study/train. Lots of resonance here.
Oh this is great to hear. Reach out if you ever have any questions! I have not watched the John and Rick talk, but I will!
Good stuff Joe. Hope all is well with you and the family
Hey Chezi, all good on my end. Hope you and yours are also doing well! Hope you enjoyed a blessed week last week!
I have watched several interviews with father Lampert over the past few days and I am so grateful for the extraordinary experience I've had due to it. For him to willingly share his experiences as an exorcist for the sake of everyone listening is an amazing way to get people to believe that the devil is real. I think it is important because in order to believe that the devil is real ,you have to know that God is real too.I can see why you're bishop gave you this particular role, you seem to handle yourself in such a calm and content manner while your love for Jesus Christ is so evident and beautiful. My favorite part about the process of an exorcism is how you know that it is only possible through Jesus Christ and that the important thing is to bring the person to God to establish a loving relationship with him. The power of Jesus is real! 🫶
I agree
I would like to hear more from Father . The host needs to be a better listener.
Thank you both for a lovely interview
Thanks for having me on your channel, Joe. I'm interested to see where you go with it and wish you all the best on your journey! In Christ, Marcas
We love stories, too. :) Thanks for the great discussion!
Great video as always
Hi Joe. I hope all is well. Looking forward to this.
Chezi: Hope all is well with you too. All is good on my end! I appreciate your comment.
@@gistwithjoe keep at it brother. Looking forward to seeing you around TLC.
As to the diabolical I think of Derek Prince who said they are "persons without bodies."
what a great conversation! you have won a new subscriber here.
Good video!
Looking forward to this.
I love listening to him coz his knowledge will make your faith even stronger.
I’m not a pastor or any of the sort… but idk… I don’t think angels possess us. I feel like possession is a forced affair even if did something to invite it in.
The problem is the devil responds like a limo, and god seens like he is deaf dumb and blind and thinking crazy stuff. The Abraham thing with his son is not best way to arouse devotion. If my babysitter didn't show up and I prayed to god and Abraham suddenly appears. would I be like, hey Abraham your good with kids, would you watch them? No you wouldn't. No way. A guy u wouldn't trust to watch your kids is some how a corner stone for three major religions, us incredulous. Am I right?
The Bible says call no man father on earth except for a real father who has children, for there is only one father and that's father God and God the son and God the holy Spirit they are one Jesus said when you see me you seen the Father the father and I are one and I will send the father to send you the holy Spirit, so we as Christians are not fooled what Catholic churches in falls Church come out of her my people get out do not be deceived, or you will partake of her sins she is going to give power to the beach to the Antichrist and you know it read read your Bible for yourself if you want to know truth,
The most EVIL" practice" on this planet is PEDOPHILIA ..NOTHING destroys an innocent being more ,,don't you think ?
Through out all of history Satan's greatest deception is to make us believe that he is not real. Well take a trip through history and with the fall of man and all the strife and wars that history has made record of one can see this lie!!
Everything pernicious can trace back to pride. And, perhaps the angelic battlefield is in every individual's soul.
Joe, stop smoking weed man...
Living in the Cleveland area as well, I actually know many in the Pagan community who have recently opened up shops in the city. That used to be the circle I ran in. These people are so well-meaning and honestly I don't think a pivot to Jesus is totally outside their reach, they're already such pure and kind people, just lost. I found Jesus during my spiritual journey as a "witch" and I have a lot of hope for others who are as I once was. However, I did have a demonic attachment and had to sit with an exorcist last month, so I can testify to how dangerous so many of these misled beliefs are.
Yes, I agree with you. Some a very close, but like I said, just misguided. Happy to hear another Clevelander on this thread.
Pray the Holy Rosary daily. Viva Cristo Rey

Can the devil take on the form of the new A- I. Robot s?
I’m not religious, I’m a follower of Jesus🩸
What are all of God's Qualities ? What are the qualities that are not God ? Institutions are what people have a hard time with . One Church is saying how God works to the hierarchy, another church says God is within . We have Principles of Science that work .The Spiritual Principle s that we can practice can keep us in Check if we apply them . Certain words like Obey or even Discipline are difficult to apply because of Humans abusing these words .Also these thing are difficult to unite ourselves with anyway. Humans in Institutions abuse their power then what ? We have to clean it up ? Isolation can make us prey to the Darkness. Solitude is different then Isolation .🙏💜💥🤛
God is our Father and He always loves His Children no matter how broken they are. He can wipe away all suffering and make things anew. May God bless you.
"The devil is trapped in darkness but he thinks he's in light."Thank you Father. I pray people not be deceived.
Re Fr. Lampert...video (1:0944)......Rom.8, 36.... "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, [39] Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." I read this at our dear son's Memorial Mass.....It is so very powerful!😂
Hello Father Vincent, missed your session a lot, pray for you. God Bless you for all you do
I think that the bible has manipulated over the years, like a rumour changes,to me to believe in god ,is to believe in good/god(very close in word obviously)to embrace empathy for your fellow man/wombman.the original texts if translated accepted things like homosexuality etc etc..I believe in angels ,and to be a man of good/god is to understand everybody ,it’s about empathy and love and forgiveness =(probably the hardest trait to embrace forgiveness for oh so many)..a church should not be paved with gold and status, but with humbleness and love.. any man trough faith even if self taught should be able to give holy communion..the Holy Ghost is very real,I believe in angels and certain practices,,,I believe the book may off been translated wrongly.. if you peel back the layers you get to the truth, indeed there are things in this dimension/reality which we cannot see..if you compare are eyesight of human senses,to a dog’s sense of smell which is maybe thousands off times stronger than ours, thus if are eyesight could see beyond prefixal light(which maybe is meant to be that we cannot)we would be aware..thus evoking fear ..thus feeding these negative energies and entities or the alien known as a the devil/satan ..in our human communication ,many people I see who are strong Christians have so much bad luck??..things have obviously been changed by covid thus meaning it obviously effects holy communion and the rituals not being cemented properly..but I ask ,what does a man being nailed to a cross look like to a child entering a church..many of us are misguided..it’s all about love !which is the most powerful human vibration!,so many find hate and jealousy oh so easy ..the negative daymons feed off that..love and forgiveness is harder for some but to me or obviously (if you just don’t watch the news for 2months it’s probably/maybe the most easy natural human trait ..=love /sharing/gathering over music =together we stand ,together we sing!!we are all 1,colour/creed/and there is no problem with sexual orientation (as long as it’s not takeing the innocence of a child )everyone is accepted in the house off god,..should we believe in everything we read?..given enlightenment or not???we should still follow the empathy and love that the bible is meant to guide everyone towards ,in this new aeon ,meaning the end times as in the book off revaluations has become at least within the next 1000 years ..god bless you all xxx…doh,I had a phone call in between this text which felt like there was something very important more to say which stopped my flow of thoughts..maybe it will come later lol..we must all join, unite, and let the most easy human trait for most which is love and compassion flow through..I have seen demonic possession and for some reason they leave as soon as my aura enters the room (but birds fly away especially crows rapidly as soon as I enter a garden)should film it(maybe it’s a natural nature science thing)..one love to all , and may peace be with YOU ☘️🙏😀✌️🫲🏼x..I do cleanse areas, with invoking practices..demons smell vile like urine and fiecies ..
Many people are converted or 'reconverted' at the point of discouragement, brokeness, depression...It can be our salvation.....in good times it is so easy to forget about God...in bad times it can be an opportunity to turn to our Source, the One who really knows us, loves us, will forgive us, wants us to return to Him! We need to pray for someone going through this so God can find a way to bring His spark of Life to them. It is a crucial time...Let's pray for each other. For Catholics going to confession or talking to a trusted priest about your dark times.
each person can choose to act like a demon or an earth angel in every miraculous situation. disembodied entities hang around poverty, depressed, abandoned, traumatized people, places, & things (abused person/animals, empty locations, divination trinkets/statues) to attach themselves, haunt/help, influence, or possess the physical host on 3D low frequency plane. negative, dark, dense, 3D fear/anger based dimensional reality/plane/frequency/vibration ( not abundant, depressed, negative events, environment, people)....on the contrary positive, light, uplifting energy attract good people, lucky opportunities, nice surroundings. 5D love/joy/gratitude based dimensional plane, energy/entities, frequency/ vibration attract each other. one good /high vibrationing person counter balances one million bad/ low vibrating sad, angry, evil, poor, abused, starving, depressed people... thus uplifting the planets vibration out of 3DENSITY evil, fear, angry world to transform to 5 density love, joy, gratitude vibrational dimension....where 3D frequency can no longer exists. sound/words/thoughts/images/movies effects every atom/cell's structure into harmony-health /disharmony -disease. ( horror movies, metal music, violent video games, posters, Curse words truly change physical cell structure see Dr. emoto research & cymantics) music beats puts body into trance state, which makes them accepting lyrics) Roman Cesar ordered murder of Jesus. Followers threatened to leave Roman empire. Rome's king didn't want to lose Christian tax payer's money, so he BASTARDIZED Christianity with Roman paganism/satanism & created the false religion of catholicism. The pope & its hierarchy was invented by Roman catholic religion. Pure Christians have direct communication to God, catholics need to confess to blackmail hierarchy agents. Christians are Bible based, catholics are pope based he interprets bible. Christian priests marry & procreate families, catholics do NOT go forth & procreate ( anti God's word). Christians have churches to honor one God, catholics have buildings shaped like churches to trick ignorant villagers into them for victimization & have architecture that honor serpents Google Vatican architecture, sculptures, rituals. catholics worship many saint idols beside one God, like the pagans. Catholics have sunday mass during the day and black mass at night. Christians believe in GOD....don't take left hand path away from God...research & avoid false teachings ( truth mixed with lies) Catholics, Mormons, Satanism, Wiccan, Later day saints, Jesuit, freemasonry, scientology, etc...some followers aren't bad, just mislead....like those indoctrinated in public schools. Just remember only talk to God, do not invite anything into your body/soul, have & spread uplifting attitudes, forgive & have gratitude, clap/sing/dance/worship/pray in good vibration not in a depraved sad lacking mood. God is high frequency non physical intelligence, evil is low frequency non physical & artificial intelligence... both energies can influence or possess a person, place, or thing...but high frequency wave can wipe out a lower wave ( that's science). Guard body, mind, spirit. Don't follow anything that you didn't reaseach history, organization, other people's experiences.
Padre Pio....and his guardian angel stories (amazing)...inspired me so very much...and now I have made a point of talking to my guardian angel...asking for help & thanking him/her....The more I do it, the more I feel my angel's presence.
Such wisdom, beautiful....when you talk about man trying to illuminate himself with his own light....which of course is the general outlook in the world today....it just keeps growing & growing like a horrible all encompassing Cancer! So much evil could be averted if science was used for true good...which can only happen if we continue to use it in perspective of God's Will, not pridefully used to show man's superiority over nature and over God!
So the interviewer's initial comment re how people see evil but not good...has been refuted by his own comments later in interview. I think people call 'good' that which is actually evil......according to man's will.....because we have lost understanding of God's Will...we are not interested...Our will, our personal 'freedom' is what we see as good....anything other than that is wrong, evil! So we really do not see evil for what it is....We call evil anyone who disagrees with us. Yes, when I was young I left the church mainly because my lifestyle was against what the church taught....Afterall it was the time when birth controI became a reality. Talk about personal freedom! But also in university all that is taught is basically to expand the intellect, bring personal freedom of thought, focus on non Christian philosophies...et al. It changes the world view of students which does not include God.
Who spoke to Adam and Eve in the garden, John, 1:18 Hebrews 1:5
I have many crystals. Not because of occult but because these gemstones were created by God with specific frequencies. Everything of matter holds frequencies. Color has frequencies. Scientific frequencies. They help us heal and are positive energy. The energy and wisdom of God. Though occult type practices that are distorted or do not understand the true nature of God, uses crystals, doesn’t mean that crystals and gemstones are evil themselves. This is an important distinction. They don’t have power over God, the are expressions of God’s power. Rosaries are made from crystals and gemstones. Diamond rings in the sacrament of marriage are crystals. Alabaster is the gemstone of the jar that held the anointing essential oil of spikenard that was used to anoint Christ. Spikenard, frankincense, essential oils hold the same God created frequencies. So discernment of what is God and what is not is the ultimate understanding of all things created by God for God. These things need to be used for the divine will of God and not for anything that is not of that will. May we all understand and discern the difference. Sending love and blessings to all. May we embrace God and truth in our everyday lives. We must understand the enemy and the insidious nature of the misguided temptations that take us away from God. I pray for all souls to go towards God, to stay with God, always. Power of prayer!
God the Father after creating the angels - He put them to the test - to bow down to Man especially bow down to Christ God the Son who will be human incarnate - but one third of the angels including Lucifer refused and rebelled against God the Father - as punishment they fell into Hell and the angels became demons and Lucifer became Satan the Devil (1st “day” of creation in Book of Genesis chapter 1- “Light” and “Darkness”) References - Catholic tradition (with a small t) and St Augustine The City Of God Satan as revenge against God the Father tempted Adam and Eve in their Fall by disguising himself as the serpent (Genesis chapter 3) Catholic tradition (with a small “t”) believe that when a human soul makes it to Heaven, that soul occupies one of the billions of vacant angelic thrones once occupied by the fallen angels (the demons ) - the Final Judgment (Christ’s 2nd Coming at the Valley of Jehoshaphat in Israel ) occurs when all the vacant angelic thrones of Heaven are occupied by human souls - Lucifer’s throne is now occupied by the Virgin Mary
Nope nor me ...Halloween, has turned a whole creepy thing.
