    After hearing much praises on the net about strap drives I have bought the flexi glide part for my powerglide IC. Even though the strap glide is awesome, this issue makes syncopated rhthms not satisfying and responsive at all. Both the power and precision is not there, and the resistance it applies on multiple beats is just frustrating. I have tried raising the footboard, using different beater angles, different spring tensions and nothing solved the problem. I don't know if other strap drive pedals from different brands are going to be better but I may just take this part out and use the powerglide again.

    • @digadot
      @digadot 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@velvetroom5767 Sorry to hear that. I'd have to see how you attack the pedal. Straps are the lightest option so fast playing should be at it's best. Its a difficult balance to find for sure. Beater angle vs footboard height vs spring tension vs beater weights vs footboard weight vs technique, etc.... Sometimes the best thing to do is restart from factory positons and modify one thing and observe for a few hours and think about whats missing and what needs to improve. Good Luck! 💪

    • @velvetroom5767
      @velvetroom5767 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@digadot Thanks for the reply. Perhaps adding weights to the beater might solve this problem as I never tried those. I play heel down only and never bury the beater. As you say this cam is very very light almost as if theres nothing there, so its both a wonderful pro for dynamic range and quiet playing, ghost notes etc but also a con for syncopated patterns because theres like zero weight to attacks.

    I share the same affinity for these earlier Iron Cobras, having gotten my second kit in the early 90s. Not sure if you’re committed to keeping the pedals completely stock Tama parts only, but I can highly recommend Japan made Canopus SpeedStar rocker bearings. They just add that extra bit of fluidity. I have installed them on many pedals and I love them.

      @@digadot Unfortunately they are kind of costly, though. There are a few videos on TH-cam where people A/B two pedals with a beater pull-back test, stock / Canopus, and you can see how much less resistance there is with the Canopus.

    Is this one of the current models? I have the maple in pistachio ……..please could you advise on your tuning for it ?

    • @digadot
      @digadot หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks ! This is the new Genista model. Premier offres two kinds now. Originally just in birch. The birch one I have from the 90's is stacked up behind me. The one I'm playing here is the Maple Genista kit. It feels way warmer than the birch one. As far as the tunings I didn't go too crazy. I just set it up Bonham style. To do that you you tighten both heads the same way. Finger tighten the screws first. Push done the rim with one hand and tighten again just with fingers. Their should still be slight wrinkles/wavy spots around the heads. Then push the head down in the center with one hand and tighten the screws star-wise until the wrinkles/waves go away. This essentially tunes the drum to its lowest note. Do this to both heads identically. After that playing heavy brings out that great fat sound. Premier delivers the drums with Remo pinstripes. Great head for this particulier kind of tuning. Hope that helped! And thanks again!

      @@digadot I also have the maple version of this kit in pistachio colour……how does it stand up to the quality of the 90s birch one………also I’m just getting a little frustrated with not getting the tuning process right ……..would you say it’s a great sounding kit……hopefully Il get it right soon. Is your bass drum fairly loose ?

      @@digadot hi thanks …….would you say the quality of the old Genista is any better than the new line? Just intrigued as I’ve never played the old ones for a long time! Did you get one of the matching snares also? As I didn’t get one at the time but now considering it ……..

    • @digadot
      @digadot หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@daleburns7110 hey the quality is wonderful. The lugs seem just as well made as the 90s. The hardware elsewhere on the kit is perfect and heavy gauge. No complaints what-so-ever. The wood-work is irreproachable and that's said from the son of a professional carpenter. This time around I got one wrapped. The wrap is perfectly glued and has a wonderful glass like durability to the touch. Hands down worth every penny. Compared to the 90s version which I still use without any complaints, the news one didn't diminish in quality at all, much like many other brands re-issuing older kits. The new Tama swingstar for example is a joke in quality compared to what it originally was in. Premier didn't do that mistake. And the lugs are the most beautiful of any kind in my opinion.

      I hear you. I think on paper it's quite a good idea. We use rubber belts in cars. I think it's an idea that actaully hasn't left the RnD table but springs just do the job really well. And they rarely ever break.

      All true…and I love this pedal the way it is…not least because the bracket that lives on the BD hoop just drops right into the receiver on the pedal..(btw-I never realised that the bracket could stay attached to the pedal either…and I’ve had mine for 26 years)… As for Premier-it’s a sad tale of a great British drum company…I was passing through Wigston in Leicester where the factory used to be only a month ago…the factory site is now a housing development…a shame.

    I have had this pedal since it first came out. I won’t use any other-it’s fast and silent…and brilliant for recording. I don’t like the supplied beaters (contact area was too small-and the hard plastic side fell apart) - but the pedal itself has, imho, never been surpassed…it’s brilliant.

    • @digadot

      @NCPAengineer 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@digadot Not sure. Maybe for strength. The original model I robbed the cam and chain from had a split foot board. The new model has long ribs like the hp20 board has. I played massive show last actual stage show I did back in early 00s and I used a rental kit that had a then earlier Tama kick pedal. I used a Speedking all my life. Single kick player. That show I was doing all types of doubles with ease and never knew what the hell it was. Your video I just watched about the iron cobras. Before it said Iron Cobra was it!!!! I haven't played for 16 years until today. I finally got a kit again as a gift. Been playing guitar. Man I am so stoked but the kit needs work. Especially a kick pedal. The stock DDrum is sadly no good. Missing a spring and on top of that the spring it has is garbage. I feel bad as it was a nice little starter kit but I told my daughter I'll have to find another pedal. Then some cymbals. I'll work out the heads muffling them and tuning. Heck yeah man. I'm rusty as hell but I noticed the kick right off the bat. Lol

    You said the reason you went from the older model Rolling Glide to the Newer Iron Cobra was because the roll pin that connects the footboard and heel plate was worn out and making the pedal noisy for recording. I think the ultimate reality is that you prefer the feel of the Rolling Glide sprocket because that is what you have played for years but at the same time, you want all the stability and other features of the Iron Cobra 900 pedal.

  • @EarthtonesCymbals
