Nice rudimental drumming
I'M TIRED OF ALL THESE GUTS AND BLACKPOWDER MEMES!!! Everywhere there is something even remotley napoleonic the horde approaches.
For fucks sake get the hell out of the comment section you unhinged G&B fans none of you actually even love the Napoleonic era but you pretend to do so because its G&B related
Bro the way you end that. Impeccable
What is that shako?

Hey, drumandfife how much would you sell your snare drums at ? and how long does it take you to make a snare drum. they look amzaing
This was extremely helpful in bringing to life the book I am reading. I’m on page 118 of Eric Larson’s book, The Demon of Unrest. “Anderson ordered him to have the garrison drummers beat the ‘long roll’ to summon the troops to their posts. This was a blood-spurring tattoo consisting of briskly repeated beats.” Thank you for recording this. It helps me imagine the tense moment more vividly!
Thank you for your comment. This is a demonstration of how the long roll is taught / learned, by playing it slowly at first (open) and then getting faster and faster until it is a closed roll. As an alarm, it would be played closed
lol the mandles
Hello I know this a weird question but where did you buy your drum. Im currently looking for an American civil war drum.
I steam bent the shell myself. Have made about a dozen shells like this. Hope to make more when I have the time
@@drumandfife oh, ok .
@@drumandfife well I am a big civil war fife and drum fan so I was wondering
I have one of those from Gettysburg I am now a drummer boy in the reenactments
I have a replica of a original drum from the civil war and it looks like the one in the vid

What fife did you use?
This is great. Would you consider doing recording commissions?

I have been learning a lot from your videos. Your awesome . I have been playing for about a year. I can't wait till I get good enough to March and play at reactments. Ps can you make a video doing Dixie slow thx
I am devising a series of video lessons to post on this channel to be followed in a specific order: I. long roll, II. 5 stroke roll, III. 7 stroke roll, IV. the first part of the three camps with 5s and 7s, V. flam, VI. assembly, VII. 6/8 flam accent, VIII. first half of Baltimore(same as the first half of QS#4) IX. 9 stroke roll, X. 10 stroke roll, XI. three camps with 5,7,10. Breakfast and dinner call would come in the series before Dixie. My friend gives zoom or Skype lessons $25/30min and $40/1hr. contact: taylorbbrownfield@gmail.com.
This is my favorite style of drumming. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your comment. Few play this style anymore and ever fewer teach it. Trying to find the time to do more videos
@@drumandfife I would totally play in a fife & drum corps if our family lived in the New England area. They are really big in that area. My favorite is the Old Guard from Washington D.C. The best of the best for playing that style.
The old guard started out by pulling men from the ranks many of whom had never played a musical before. They were taught ashworth (1812) and Bruce and Emmett (1862). Now it is mostly a very modern drumming style heavily influenced by DCI and mostly has little to do with traditional American rudimental drumming. Not my cup of tea
@@drumandfife My observation of the current Old Guard is still traditional, just with a slight twist when they are featured as a drum line. The drum parts to the traditional tunes still reflect the true old style that we are all used to hearing.
Where should one look to get a reproduction civil war drum on a budget?
This is so good. Keep it up!

Well done. Excellent doouble drags. How many people in the video are now twice as old as they were when the video was shot? Quality and performance has stood the test of time for sure.

I watch this thing until I can do this! Thanks for the inspiration :D
Nice
How much to get you to play this drum outside my house every morning at 4am ?
Gosh makes me wish I cud be back in those days I
Would love to see some in depth lessons on how to start! There are hardly no visual resources (minus old hard to find dvds) it would be so help full!
Lots of. 7
Nice, but I would ditch the plastic vent hole for brass.
haha it's not plastic-- it's made from bone. 19th century drums typically had bone or wood vent hole liners, or just a hole with no liner. The original drum I copied appears to have a dark wood vent hole liner. I used a bone one I got from another drum maker. I may replace it one day
If I’m not wrong, he’s playing colonial drummer by John beck, and that my solo this year.
I'm just playing a bunch of sections of drumbeats from Bruce and Emmett's Drummers' and Fifers' Guide
What is the tube played in alot of civil war movies when the troops are marching into battle, I hear it on most movies just never been able to find anything on the name @@drumandfife
Awesome! So is it necessary to have a drum press??
drum press not recommended for drums with calf or goatskin heads. drum press is for modern rope tension drums with synthetic heads
It's better to stand next to the fifers than the drummers -- as the drums drown out the fifes. Great posting!
Very, very, very NICE!!!!!!!
