    i'm a fan of all Snyder's filmography, and i enjoy the Rebel Moon films. I appreciate the world-building that Zack did for the RebelVerse, it is so detailed and well thought-out. The story is literally "Seven Samurai in space," which is what he openly said it would be and what I expected it to be and it's exactly what we all got. Kora's heroes journey is beautiful as it revolves around Gunnar. Love Titus, Tarak, Nemesis, Darrien Bloodaxe and Jimmy; such incredible original character designs in terms of costume and backstory and destiny. Noble is ruthless and a villain you love to hate which is rare these days. Rebel Moon is very much inspired by the 80's adult comic series, Heavy Metal, and Zack has said RM was kind of a test to see if a Heavy Metal live-action movie could work, and i think he passed with flying colors. Yet, out of all of Zack's filmography, I am most eager to see what he does next. Supposedly the next film Zack is going to make is a small movie with hardly any VFX, rumored to be an American western movie with Arthurian mythological archetypes intertwined (not making King Arthur an American, but simply using Arthur's arc for an anonymous original character in a western setting), and the working title is "Avalon."

    Thanks for the vid. I think he´s one of the best directors there, he made some unpopular choices at the time, Affleck, Gal Gadot, Ezra, Fast zombies, Jessie EisenZuckerberg, Batman as a villain, premature Death of superman, the runtime in movies, the violence, the sex, the directors cuts, etc, and now it seems so obvious, he truly is a visionary. His art has so many layers and details that make it special, interesting and has something that invites you rewatching and found something new every time. I think his lowest point is the writing, when some talented writer is onboard, like Frank Miller, Chris Terrio or Alan Moore, that´s the best you can get, i admire him for always trying to do what he wants, the way he empowers his team, to not compromise his vision, and that´s why we love him and some others hate.

    For me I would say Sucker Punch is worse than Rebel Moon. His commentary on the solution to the objectification of women didn’t work for me. I liked army of the dead more than sucker punch but still would agree that it is not a good movie in comparison to dawn of the dead. Rebel moon wasn’t necessarily bad or his worse project but it certainly was a massive disappointment for all the reasons you discussed. It felt like a holding container for all of his sci fi ideas and didn’t know how to combine them and put them together into a whole item.

    Disappointed that you didn’t like the Director’s Cuts of Rebel Moon. I think there is WAY more value within them than what you both gave them credit for. And I honestly think they will age incredibly well, and in many ways, are Zack’s opus. I love this new period of his career he’s in where he’s writing, directing, and shooting his work. He’s really pushing himself as an artist, and I’m all there for it. It rocks.

At least one of us (Jesse) will give them a rewatch for sure, but we also think releasing the inferior cuts first was a mistake. It soured the taste. Made one of the most well regarded "Modern remakes of classic horror films" ever in Dawn of the Dead. Made one of the most faithful graphic novel adaptations in 300, which basically standardized the "Blue Screen and Sets" production method that you see commonly used in most VFX heavy blockbusters these days. Adapted a previously thought to be "unadaptable" graphic novel to film with Watchmen, and most consider it to be a high quality adaptation. Anime got popular cause of covid. There was a boom in 2020 and 2021. But its been going down year after year, you can see this with manga sales. Anime as a medium is overall, frankly, pretty garbage. Theres nothing in hollywood that even comes close to how deririvate and uninspring isekais are. They are by far the most dominate force, besides battle shounen but thats only in popularity, in the anime industry. Theres like 10 per season and its all garbage. Like, assembly line kinda garbage. Basically 10 morbius. Battle shounens are no different. After watching several of them, youll see how generic they can get. Stuff like Food wars and Dr stone may seem very different on the outside but employ so many of the tropes of a typical battle shounen and its story structure and how it approaches its characters. And theres no point in talking about anything else because the anime industry is basically these two, power fantasy type of shows. Ive seen 341 anime which includes sequals (Dropped a lot) and i unfortunately came to this conclusion. Id look at my favorites list and its such a minor percentage. Despite how large the medium of anime is in japan, like its top grossing films are animated, the west still feels like it beats it out. When the west tries to deliver a good anime show that isnt trying to cater to children, you get great stuff like arcane and blue eye samurai thats just better written than anything anime released in the past few years. (Not saying you dont get shit like velma) But 1 bad show beats out 30 of them.

    • @creategreatness8823

      Arcane and Blue Eye Samurai are the DEFINITION of over-hyped and over-praised. Truly over-rated. I will take Demon Slayer, One Punch Man, or even an old-fashioned Cowboy Bebop over any of the "Hollywood's pretend Anime" nonsense. Just as Godzilla Minus One shamed the VFX work of almost every major Hollywood Blockbuster with a fraction of the budget, so too does Japanese animation outclass anything Hollywood puts out. Yes, there are bad and great anime just as there are bad and great Hollywood films...but defending Hollywood on this front frankly feels more like tribalism than anything else.

    • @ben99ny69
      @ben99ny69 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@creategreatness8823 First off, these aren't entirely Hollywood productions and Arcane was made by a French studio and blue eye samurai by a french Canadian studio. But they originated in the West. You speak of how anime is better but can't bring examples. Anime can't seem to steer away from the same tropes its been using for decades. I dont see what godzilla minus 1 has anything to do with this. You also seem to be forgetting the horrendous pay those VFX artist probably had. All you did was use a popular example for why one did better than the other, just completely disregarding everything else. I'm not defending Hollywood. Just stating how stale and unoriginal anime is. Like, you are forgetting that it isn't just Hollywood that makes films. There are tons of independent studios that make great films. I can go on about each anime. But having the biggest anime in the past few years being demon slayer, is frankly embarrassing. A cliche driven story with one note characters is somehow the biggest thing out of Japan. All anime in Japan are either battle shounen, isekais, harem romance, melodramatic romance, unfunny comedy, idols, and CGDCT. Just look at the crunchyroll awards. Thry can't even come up with more than 6 shows to have in every category. The anime awards suck because anime sucks, no variety whatsoever.

    • @ben99ny69
      @ben99ny69 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@creategreatness8823 I also want to mention that there's never been a show or movie thats more overrated than demon slayer. A generic, cliche driven story with one note characters, terrible antagonist that employs every single trope in the book. And look at the way they are handling it. It makes zero sense to turn a single arc in the middle of a series into a trilogy. Demon slayer is not a story of artistic integrity, it's a by product from copying battle shounens from before and using every trend in the book, with a production committee using every step to drag that shit out like filler episodes and movies to milk the ever loving fuck out of this thing called a "story" that was made in a lab.

      @MarcosSantos-dj6lk Sure you do. If the actor is bad in the role, then they took the role from another actor. But in a business like Hollywood, things are too subjective to really look at things that way. It's almost never the "most qualified" actor that gets the part. It's the actor that is qualified enough while also being available and willing to work for the right price. Plus, movie making has always been a family business. It's art. Does it really matter if an actor has connections? If it's a blatant miscasting, I'll say something. Otherwise, who cares?

    One reason why anime can afford to be more imaginative and have crazy premises is that you can do a lot more with a small budget when your medium is 2d animation. For live action, you can't properly pull off crazy fantasy or sci-fi settings without a very high budget like Game of Thrones or Marvel movies.

    • @creategreatness8823
      @creategreatness8823 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is an excellent point. Animation not only allows you to showcase huge scope and scale with a relatively tiny budget...and as others have said, animation allows for the visuals and design work to achieve things that is much harder if not impossible to pull off in live action. 2D animation allows for more visual creativity and imagination without costing $300 Million.

If after the first three episodes, you didn't like it, then drop it - dont waste time watching till episode 50 unless the first 3 episodes were just good enough to continue watching but not bad enough to drop it.... For me...I'm sure One Piece is good, any property that goes that long certainly has something and commands a fanbase for a reason. For me it's entirely practical. Even if I were to watch one episode and love it, that's even worse because then I am pulled into an 1100 episode series. I don't have time in my life to dedicate to a property of that size. Even if you count all of Dragon Ball, every episode of Z instead of the shortened Kai, and all of Dragon Ball Super...you aren't even at 600 episodes. THAT is more or less the longest anime property I can commit to. Picking up an 1100+ series like One Piece that doesn't seem to be near its end is just a huge investment of time and mental bandwidth that I don't really have the ability to go in for.

    i feel like the main reason anime/manga is outpacing hollywood/western comics is mostly because the west seems to have just so many confusing branch offs, its why I personally dont like marvel or dc as much as I love say jojos bizarre adventure. JJBA has maybe 3 side plots that branch off but they feel like they arent required to watch the actual show and more so just extra stuff for super fans, such as dead mans questions which just expands on Kira yoshikage as a character. Rather than watching all of the iron man movies, all of the thor movies, etc in order to get the full scope of the infinity war movies. Which creats the problem of accessibility, and thus the movies feel somewhat like they were built in a way you could watch the movie with no prior knowledge of the series. Which kinda removes the point in watching the other ones in my opinion.

If you want to binge My Hero Academia...you just start at episode 1 and watch as much as you feel like. If you want to watch the "MCU" and are not already familiar...you pretty much have to find a video or online resource to explain it to you and lay out a way to "properly marathon" the entire franchise. The minute anyone feels like they have to do some kind of research or do any kind of "homework" just to try start to become a fan...it can just become a barrier to entry.

    For the people who say 1 was boring.. I don't know what you were watching but was it the same movie. The first hour of 1 was setting up the movie and once the attack or total annihilation of house atreides begun dune 1 was one flawless epic, breathtaking scifi movie. And I go so far to say that the action sequences of 1 were better than in 2. The reason why 2 feels better is that the story is on a more important place of the journey of Paul and fremen and everybody that was in it. I think for the people who have critique dont know what the movie is about and I was one of those people especially after I watched 2.. I did research on the story and understand completely what it's about which makes both 1 and 2 automatically bona fide masterpieces I'd even argue 1 is very very underrated. The first time I was really waiting for sequels is the lord of the rings trilogy. Than came Nolan's batman trilogy that made me hooked and now it's Dune and I'm pretty convinced Denis isn't going to disappoint he's a too good director for that.. Perfection!! I'm kind of hooked on the subject matter of dune with false prophecies and the fall of good people becoming villains.

    I remember when I first saw this, I initially loved it, your point about the tone of the trailer making waves on the Internet, I agree with entirely. If anyone were to ask me my top 10 favorite movies for some reason my brain tells me 2014’s Godzilla would be somewhere in there…having rewatched the movie a couple of times over the last decade, I know that’s not true…but the fact that my gut feelings says so says a lot about its potential. Now I will say, I’m not a life long Godzilla fan, prior to this I had only seen the original Godzilla and the American one from the 90s…so the follow-ups to the 2014 film felt off to me; the huge change in tone brought the franchise away from the energy of this movie, which was my favorite part about it. Right now the monster verse movies to me feel like bargain brand Pacific Rim with iconic characters; they aren’t bad, I’ve seen them all and they are a fun time flaws aside…I just think there’s nothing that really sets them apart from any other creature feature (aside from the icons of course), and I just wish they had more of their own style, like Kong skull island, that movie had the sauce.

Pacific Rim came out in 2013 and blew us away. Not only does it have peak giant monster action, but it has Guillermo del Toro’s finger print all over it. You probably wouldn’t be able to tell who directed some of the monsterverse entries just by watching them. Our next video is on Kong Skull Island so we’re curious to see how much or how little our opinions as Godzilla fans line up with yours. Thank you for the comment by the way, we really appreciate it!
