The Last "LOOSE LEAD WALKING" Tutorial You Ever Watch! It’s Time To Stop PULLING!
Your videos have made such a difference to my training journey with my GSP. I know every dog will be different but how long on average would you expect it to take a dog to walk nicely on the lead with this technique?
@@carmenmilligan3222 anywhere from 3 days to 3 months. Depends more on the person being the trainer as it’s our confidence in guiding the dog that gets them to understand the assignment best
Bernard doesn't skip leg day.
My first Vizsla reached the age of 13 years and my second Vizsla just passed away at an age of 15.5 years.
How do I get my now 9 month old to follow my palm? ALL she does is take the treat of my palm and Does her own thing.
very important advice!! :)) and it‘s one of the most crucial things to teach a dog, so you enjoy having them along for any kind of plan
guess it’s the same as with any training utensil: is it used to enhance a proper trainingmethod that the dog understands, or is it used in a lazy way as a substitue for lack of training… also, really nice footage! :))
I get his done when I do this back and forth. Once I move on and actually want to walk somewhere, my Viszla kickstarts again and walks in front. I constantly have to pull her back and remind her. Every few seconds. Or take turns. She never relaxes and just walks by.
Brilliant.
🤔 Would the pressure (( pop)) work with my hyper huskey who weas a harness?
Beautiful pup.
hmmm… not a fan of e-collars, but I also never used them. there might be situations for them, but generally I think it‘s better to not rely on gear but on connection and hierarchy :)
Unfortunately Connection and Hierarchy is not gonna work when you have a high prey drive dog. The nice thing about e-collars is that you don't really need them once the recall is solid.
When this brain locks in and prey drive takes over, your verbal won't mean anything! Change the situation. Your dog is off leash, and sees a cat jet past the driveway. Dog locks in and goes. Cat makes it across the street with dog in pursuit! With ecollar on, the owner sees a truck coming, and you tap the dog to break their focus and the ecollar reaches out and works like an invisible leash to recall and save their life! It's not pain! It's a modified tens unit with up to 100 to 127 levels. You are NOT causing electrocution! You are clearing the brain and grabbing their attention!
@@daveskolnick9643 I do see that there's situation where it can help a lot and I'm not saying it's torture. I know it can be used for good. but it CAN also be used in a bad way, just like verbal disciplining can be abuse if it's done badly and the dog doesn't understand whats happening. I'm more concerned with the type of people that use any excuse to use them. you know, the "oh he's an XY-breed and XY age that's why he jumps/barks/I can't let them off the leash, I need this collar" aka "I think it's cool to have an barely under control dog and think it makes me look tough that I have to use all kinds of big metal leashes and collars and walking him while on the phone"... you know the type, right? I'm not saying anyone here is like that, least of all ben! (love your content!) where I live I have just rarely seen an ecollar and if I did, I found it's use questionable :)
for me it would be mixed breeds from shelters/rescues. my 2 last dogs and my current where all rescues. first one (Malinois-mix from an alcoholic guys home) wasn‘t really by choice, since he chose us as his family first and then we adopted him, but thanks to this all the usual concearns people bring up when adopting rescues where put into perspective for me. Everything is trainable, everthing is „fixable“ with patience, the will to do so and a good dog trainer to guide the human. Even if I get a puppy some day, I will never not get a mixed breed from a shelter ❤️
yesss!! so important! if you don‘t give them a job, they will choose one for themselves and that very often is an unpleasant experience for everyone involved. I‘d also say this applies to all dogs, just to a different extent
Agree 100%. My boy is very independent, and his stimulation needs and drive are high. He's a full time second job. But worth every minute and penny.
good point!! with my last dog I used to say exactly that „oh that‘s just her character“, and eventually I realised: yes it is, but I also saw certain behaviour and supported it, or worked through certain things with her untill she reached the behaviour I wanted. so it‘s really not a fair statement, and might lead people to believe all is lost when it really never is :)
This is a great tip. We were doing this in the alley this morning. When we have a young puppy, this can be much easier because they tend to be more independent. However, when they are a bit older (about 6-8 months), they get more curious and want to explore their environment. I love this drill for puppies and adult dogs. Thanks for sharing great content!
What about puppy biting?
It is uncommon for a well-bred vizsla to have a reactivity issue; but is not uncommon for POORLY bred vizsla from certain BYBs to have issues with their temperament, so it can be inbred.. Unfortunately these are the dogs that typically end up in Vizsla Rescue. And, some of these dogs can be helped with a skilled trainer.
Well said and so true! I work regularly with my dog, but it’s funny how often I get told how lucky I am that my dog is so well behaved. Trust me it had nothing to do with luck.
What professional training and or accreditations do you have yourself?
At what age would you start this? I have a 14 week old. I am doing this with her now but is that too early?
Excellent points people need to hear!
Prong collar is the best
You don’t hunt with this dog. Don’t call yourself trainer with dogs. Pathetic
No way this is in BOT, I'd recognise that setting anywhere. Are you local to BOT then? Great video by the way. I am currently training my 13 week old staffy. She's doing so well and watching videos like yours is helping no end. (just to disclaim there is no slip lead use or anything yet)
My dog is dog obsessed, he also suffers from hyper arousal. As a young dog I was advised by one trainer to put him on drugs to suppress his excitement, and another told me an E-collar was the only way. I refused both. He is much better now but still gets super excited when he sees a dog showing interest in him, but such is life. His off lead time is tightly managed in case we come across a dog.
@@biggeordie245 Sounds like you’re managing it well! 👊

Dog like to be friends with other dogs & most will respect the signals the other dog/ your dog is giving. Not today thank you.
Does this guy do dog tranning? And is he in the uk?
Yes I do and in the UK
@@balanceddogukI’m just gonna say it out right we have a dog and she is about 1 or 2 months old my mum has been taking care of her but she’s become more vicious and has bitten us more is there anything we can do my mum is already thinking of giving her away
@ ofcourse, an 8 week old puppy needs structure and boundaries from the start. Crate train, keep them on a lead at all times and start training with a trainer in person to help guide you
@@balanceddoguk thank you
It's so nice to see working dogs being treated properly! I have so much respect for people who train and work their dogs like this
❤
Love a lab, i use to have a rotty and a bassit who was like chorlk and cheese, but inseparable, sadly, they are no longer with us. I really believe that depending on the owner, any dog can be these things
Please make more videos just for fun 😂😂😂😂
😂 the struggle is real! But I love her to bits and wouldn't have her any other way. We both spend our days covered in mud 😂
I have a mate who lives in a flat who wanted a cocker..... thankfully i talked him out of it. You have Lovely dogs by the way... truly our best friends.
They are working dogs, they are meant to be covered in mud! They should spend their lives working on shoots and hunts flushing out birds from overgrown patches of brambles! If any reason not to own one is they NEED working not just walking!!!
I just adopted a 75 lb Shepard mix and he pull with his full body, I’ve tried many things and tried a slip leash we had for a while and I was upset it would constantly fall down and he would choke himself pulling hard. He is two and we got him two days ago. I’m hoping I can learn much from your videos
Ahhhhh that is like dangling a carrot. I am desperate for a good slip lead. I have a cane corso and he loves to try and pull which is made worse by the slip lead slipping. Would it be possible to purchase one from your?
So, in other words a "slip lead" is a choke collar... Why have "you" changed the name to this draconian tool?
Ben Marsh is not responsible for changing the name to slip lead. I've watched many trainers and they ALL use that description!
Can you share any links where you get the biothane and other materials to make the slips leads please?
Training begins the moment that puppy sets foot through the door. Gentle at first, building with progress and this applies to ALL discipline. I have owned and worked nine dogs including viz, gsp, labs and my dogs would be invited before me.
I totally agree with you. It's so much better when you have the correct tools. Have you tried splicing instead of crimping an eye onto either end? Much lighter, softer and nothing to go wrong. Of course, you wouldn't be able to splice biothane. Like you. I sell to my clients. But..... I'm on the other side of the world to you. It's lovely and warm here at the moment 😃
My golden chews through his lead in seconds so have to use a chain
Interested to hear your 2 pence on using the slip lead the gundog style way with it loose round the base of the neck 🤔 cheers 👍🏻
@@lolypop123454 as someone who trains gundogs also I only find the slip lead useful in that configuration to be able to quickly release them from the lead for a retrieve. Other than that it’s always up high and snug
@balanceddoguk makes sense thanks Ben
I have a question, not about lead tho: my 2 months old puppy was used to eat his food from the palm of my hand, but for the past few days, he has been refusing to do so. Then he eventually accepts, but with some hesitation. Is this behavior something I should be concerned about? There's no aggression, and he doesn't growl at me-he just resists a bit before eating from my hand.
Wouldn’t worry to much about it. Just be consistent with the hand feeding as it will be extremely useful as your pup gets older
For those looking for this style of lead with the same qualities and components, you can get them from Tom Davis at No Bad Dogs or Rader K9. I’ve used both to train dogs of all sizes and they’ve held up perfectly
Would love if you made these available to purchase one day!
we need a tutorial on how you make them
