#293 The Paint Job!
It was still unpainted one year after I built this winch with Mike and Dave. It was about time Dave visited me to complete this job!
As usual, we go with the yellow stripes pattern!
Thanks, Dave for your visit!

#292 Winch Trial
This is about time to show you the winch in action. Overall, it works great. I like the feature of unspooling remotely. The only detail is that it's really heavy. Come along in my typical day out in the woods...
#291 Grapple VS Hay Bale
We store a few big square hay bales in our dry box for Amélie's horse. Then Amélie prepares small hay bags to feed her horse in the other building where she has light and plenty of storage. So I have to move a big hay bale every 3-4 weeks from one shelter to the other. The grapple is more than ideal for the task!

#289 Logging Winch
I need a logging winch to use with my tractor. I could buy one, but I won't be happy. I want it to be remotely controlled and capable of controlling the spooling AND the unspooling action. And yet, to be driven by the tractor PTO. And to suit my needs, 3-ton pulling capacity would be plenty enough for my small 35hp Case 430 tractor. So I decided I would make my own version of it!

#286 Digging a Ditch, Dump Trailer & More!
I dug this ditch last year, but without a light slope, it's hard to maintain using the lawn mower or even the offset flail mower. So I remove dirt to have the desired slope. Moreover, I need a significant amount of dirt for the next project (wife's project!). Let's put the new dump trailer in action!
#285 New Dump Trailer

I need a dump trailer, but I don't have time to make one... So the project is to update the hydraulic valve to have a float position

#283 Summer Is Here!
Here is a quick update of the most recent project. Heating the pool! I've installed a titanium heat exchanger (salt water needs titanium over stainless steel). It's a 360k BTU heat exchanger. It's well suited for our pool. We've gained almost 40°F in 24 hours. Yes, the water was just above the freezing point, to begin with.

#279 The Snow Roller
I make a snow roller to maintain the trails. It has nothing to do with a lawn roller, being 42 inches in diameter, it can efficiently roll through a thick layer of snow. I use salvaged 11R22.5 wheels to make that contraption.

Absolutely!
As soon as I saw the black and yellow paint i knew where this one was going. Looks like you guys had a fun day. Thanks for sharing take care and be safe.
It was indeed very funny project! Thanks!
Thank You Sir For Your Fun Words 🤣🤣👍👍
Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year. I really like your projects. I have a question, I have a Case 400 diesel tractor. I was wondering if you no where I could purchase a top link for this tractor? Thanks for any help you could give me. I live in Midwestern Ontario. Thanks Peter.
Hello! I bought mine at Princess Auto. There are plenty in Ontario. Any other tractor dealer would have that as well, since this is quite common part, regardless of year or make. You might only check what is the diameter size of the pin connecting to the tractor side and if needed, get bushings. Thanks!
Thanks for your reply. I have a top link on the tractor but it is not bent the proper way. What happens is when I lower an implement it binds on the linkage and I cannot lift it back up. I have checked with old case dealers in my area and no one has any. Thanks again.
Happy New Years Gents!
Thank You Very Kindly GP and YOU TOO MON AMI 🙏😇👍Cheers 🍻

Do you still have plans. Are you willing to sell a set of plans
Hello. I don't have anything to sell... but here are some sketches to help you. th-cam.com/video/yCvmZbuHPyw/w-d-xo.html
@ thanks this will help get me started.
Hi. Really admire your engineering and fabrication skills. I have a similar type smaller military winch and am planning on building a PTO logging winch, similar to you... but, i don't really have the money for all of those parts nor do I really need reverse or remote control.. i was planning on just powering the winch straight from the tractor PTO and sitting on the tractor to run the winch, using the clutch and pto engagement lever. I would build a protective screen on top of the winch and use synthetic winch cable for lightness and saftey... Do you think this would work OK?
Hello, it would be pulling slow using the PTO directly to the input shaft of the winch. It has a reduction of 1:34, if I remember well. So given a diameter of spool of 8 inches, that would give 22 ft/min at 540rpm. You then have 2 choices. Either you run a set of sproket or pulley to increase the speed of the rotation of the input shaft. Either you increase the diameter of the spool, by building material on it. Let say the spool is increased to 16in in diameter, you would get 44ft/min. That would be a minimum acceptable in my opinion. Ideal would be 75ft/min. Then max (fast) is 100ft/min.
@@FromSteelToWood thank you for the detailed reply and information!
@@FromSteelToWood Hi Joe, thanks for the reply and great info. we would only be using the logging winch occasionally so we may just accept the slow speed... or if it really is too slow for us, i think i might use your idea of building up/doubling the spool size as i am sure that for what we do 44ft.min would be fine. thanks again!
Great video! Did you install your own fence around your pool? If yes, where did you get from?
Yes I did install it myself. I got it from a local company: www.aluminiumswilliams.com/ Thanks!
@FromSteelToWood did you put new oil seals in both sides of the gear box? If so, do you still have a part number for the oil seals? I'm having trouble getting the right oil seal.
Yes I put new oil seal. I found them on Amazon. Weird for me, they were measurement in millimeters. They fit very well though. www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B09359GY4H/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1. That is on Amazon Canada. Look for the following description on Amazon USA (Amazon.com) and you will find it too! "EAI Oil Seal 50mm x 81mm x 13mm TC Double Lip w/Spring. Metal Case w/Nitrile Rubber Coating" Hopefully that helps you!
How are the tire chains? I have a steep hill at my place I want to plow driveway with 430 but I’m nervous about this hill being to steep and taking of like a toboggan
I have a 35 ton garwood drag winch and the main input shaft is sliding up in to the gearbox and back out of the gearbox. Causing the drive sprocket chain to rub up against its own frame. What did you see inside yours that would might have failed on mine that could allow this shaft to go in and out? Thanks. 2:05
Hello, the spur gear and shaft are one piece. The only thing I can see is the trust bearings are worn and very loose. Depending the amplitude of the movement, they might be sliding on the shaft, so you may be missing shim/spacer to make them tight against both covers that hold them in place. Good luck!

Good day Joe. Found you on Dave’s channel. Happy to stop by and Full Watch your video! Beautiful woods with big logs. Are you cutting to mill for lumber or for firewood?
Hello! Sorry for the delay, I was traveling. It's been a while since I milled any lumber.
Hey Joe, Hope all is well. Would you happen to have the points number so i can get some at napa. I'm having some issues with my pertronix swap and want to try points again.
Sorry, I don't have the part number. I order it online at Elmer www.elmersrepair.com/categories/case/parts-by-model/case-100-30-series/430.html?sort=featured&page=3 Joe
Very useful Thanks for this video. I have a question...What is in the blue tube ? A kind of grease ?
Not quite sure if you refer to the very small blue tube towards the end where I reassemble the carburetor's butterfly, it is LockTite. I don't want any screw to be swallowed by the engine... There was another bigger blue tube, it's a gasket sealant. Not quite sure I used it at that point. Thanks!
Like your presentation style and very informative mate. Great video. Subbed for more
Thanks!
This is gerat. I probably spend half my time in the shop sharpening edges of one sort or another. I kinda find it relaxing actually.
Great design! Interesting how to get the block to drop back it needs an inch or two extra on the return, have you found a way to make it drop better?
I'm catching up with your vids! Great work on that winch! impressive stuff!
Thanks!
Hi...are they back filling without water?
Yes they are! But there is great precaution about that. The water was added only a few hours after that. And they used net 1/2 in crushed stone, so no need to compact. If they had to compact, they would have to fill the water along. Thanks!
After cutting my feet 3 weeks ago cutting the same small treelimbs i also would like to make something like this faster and more save! Nice tools you have
That was one great consideration why I did that contraption. And also the ergonomics. Sorry about your injury.
Thanks for making this video!
You are welcome! I found the instruction so confusing, it made me think I could help others go through that! Thanks!
I just saw you mentioned by Dave @RCAF PolarExpress and just sub'd to your channel. Looking forward to watching your videos. Jeff @adirondackwoodsman

Wide base tractor(you 'll be O.K.)
You are right. Although it's not loaded with liquid in the rear, it's really stable anyway. Thanks!
Merci!
