Graham The Cyclist
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 20 ม.ค. 2022
I'm a 60 year old cyclist from Leeds, UK documenting my cycling journey. I have been cycling most of my life and part of a cyclist club around my home area. I have taken part in a few races and time trials as well as completing my first Fred Whitton in 2024.
Cycling The Best Roads In Mallorca!
Mallorca is a destination we have always visited as a family, more specifically, Puerto Pollensa (the cycling capital). I always get out on the bike while over there but never filmed it, so as I now have a TH-cam channel, I thought it would be perfect to document my rides whilst holidaying there.
I got out almost every day, conquering the likes of Coll de Femenia and most famously, the Sa Calobra climb.

National Hill Climb Championships 2024!
มุมมอง 13Kหลายเดือนก่อน
This year the Cycling National Hill Climb Championships were held in Hexham, Northumberland on Dipton Mill Road. The climb is 1.2km at 9.8%, topping out at 13.4%. A tough climb that changes gradient multiple times, with a kicker at the finish! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to participate in this year's event due to illness, but I'll definitely be back at some point to see what time I can achieve...

My son and I ventured out on our first-ever cafe ride ☕️ We also visited one of our favourite places, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park for a quick pit stop. On the ride, my son got TWO punctures, one on the front wheel and the other on the back! 🥲 Ride Stats: 74km - 575m - 3hr 14 #Cyclist #CafeRide #Cycling 00:26 - Ride Introduction 04:33 - Ride Part 1 11:25 - Cafe Stop 15:56 - Yorkshire Sculpture ...

Tour De France Legacy Ride | The Struggle 2024!
มุมมอง 4094 หลายเดือนก่อน
My longest ever ride to date! In today's video, I participated in the Tour de France Legacy ride. The ride retraced the original Tour de France Grand Depart route ridden by professional riders back in 2014. I rode the "hardcore cyclists route" covering the full 233km, which is an amazing achievement for me! This route saw some of the best Yorkshire climbs including; Cote de Buttertubs Pass and ...
Completing My First Fred Whitton Challenge 2024!
มุมมอง 8K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
Welcome to my first-ever TH-cam video. I took part in this year's Fred Whitton Challenge 2024. It was the 25th Anniversary of the challenge and the sun came out for us that weekend! The Fred Whitton Challenge is known as the hardest sportive in the UK, and this ride shows off some of the most incredible places in the Lake District. I didn't manage to film the whole route as the GoPro battery ra...
Great video and massive chapeau to you Graham for doing it and smashing Hardknott in the process! I haven't done it yet but very tempted to try for the ballot
Absolutely brilliant video ❤
Thank you very much! 😊
What a great video and well done for an amazing effort. Well shot and edited and roads I know well but never managed all in one like you.
Pro cycling sorted you out 🫶 looks a great trip ❤
It was! They sure did, will be going back to them 🚴🏽♂️
Try to join toure de lamian 😅
Fantastic effort! Did we meet you in Grasmere the day before (the couple on the tandem)?
Hello, thank you, yes it was us. We had a chat in the Grasmere Gather Cafe! What a great event, and weather, hope you had a good ride, and decide to do the ride again in 2025.
@@grahamthecyclist Had an excellent ride, thanks. Might well do it again in 2025!
Nice video Graham and Mallorca is a great place to cycle. You should try coastal road back from Andratx next time you are over. Your hotel is one of the best to stay for cyclists.
Thank you, I’m going to plan my routes a bit better next time, you're right, the hotel is perfect for cyclists, we will be there next year!
Great video lad cheers
Cheers Harry, congrats again on the win! Hope you're enjoying the off-season 🍻
Chapeau, great effort. I`ve done it twice, first time in 2022. The Fred was my big challenge after having brain surgery to remove a tumor in 2020, i did it in 8hrs 34mins which i wasn`t expecting . Respect to anyone who gets to the finish regardless of whether or not they walked Hardknott Pass....that`s a big as at 90 miles.
Wow, congratulations! I hope you're all okay from the surgery in 2020. That's an amazing effort! Yes, definitely, it's a tough one! Will you be there next year? 😄
All went well with the surgery, they managed to remove all of the tumour. I have to have a MRI scan every year to make sure nothing is coming back. All good to date. I did the Fred again in 2023 not sure if I'll do it again. Next June I'll doing the Coast to Coast in a day 150 miles from Seascale to Whitby.
@@davidthomas9079 great to hear! Good look with the coast to coast, I hope you have a great ride. 🏅🚴♂️
Great video, tough tough ride - 4 th time for me, I say never again until the ballot comes round in December. I enter hoping I might not get in again - and then I do, so then has to be done! I get more worried about Hardknott the more times I do it. One of the most beautifullly stunning rides anywhere in Europe imho
Thank you, it's a very tough one indeed. I'm definitely going to give it another go next year, as hard as it was, I want to do it a second time (must be mad). You'll smash it again, the views really help! You're right about that one, it's a beautiful place, the Lake District! 🚴🏽♂️
You mixed in music nicely
Wow feather looks so smooth standing and his cadence was higher than everyone else's. Super efficiency
I don't know how he makes it look so easy!
Blood clart.👌🏾No airs and graces, proper down to earth.
Rim brake domination! Harry cleaned up the top dogs on his 16 year old bike!
Rim brakes ftw!
Aye. Uphill. Definitely discs for the downhill.
@10:45 thank you for capturing this, one to show the kids in 20 years time...
Oh, awesome. Glad I managed to get that for you! 🚴🏽♂️
It doesn't get better than an endorsement from the legend they call Adam Blythe. That was a great video! Cheers! 👍🍺
That's very true! What a legend. 😎 Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome vid!!! What a day it was 🤩 you captured it brilliantly!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks, Bethany 🚴🏼♀️
I see Harry remembered his skin suit this time
Haha yes, that must've been the help he needed on the day 🤣
I enjoyed that video, especially getting to see the views I was too breathless to take in at the time! 2024 Fred was a fabulous event and you’re an inspiration to others. Big 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you, that's very kind of you to say 😃🙏🏼
Nice video. I did miss the results for the ladies.
Thank you! Women's times/results: 1. Illi Gardner 2. Lizi Brooke 3. Abi Plowman
Superb! Thanks for that.
Great video
Thanks Cath!
Loved this! 👍🚴🏻♂️
Legend! 😁
Brilliant video, thanks very much for taking the time to make it and for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it! My pleasure 😊
Im so glad this popped up in my feed! As an envious aussie, the hillclimb scene in the UK is just a great way to get so many different types of riders racing. The production quality is just so candid and yet the coverage you achieved is just great, so keen to see your future videos Graham.
I'm glad you liked it, thank you! A few people have commented on how good the UK hill climb scene is, and it's great to hear from people across the pond enjoying it, too! I have a local hill climb video coming out soon, not sure how good it will be compared to this as my son helps me film when he's able to ... but I'm getting better 😆
What Hill ?
Dipton Mill Road
Feather better go back to last year's bike
🤣
Thank you for posting this excellent video! Although I am in Canada I always look forward to coverage of the British hill climbs, something pretty unique in cycling with its grassroots feeling. This was well-captured here and it must have been fun to attend--if not to ride that climb!
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, it seems the UK has a great hill-climbing scene - I think someone else mentioned that about the UK too! Glad I was able to do this event justice with my video. Thanks for watching 😃🙏🏼
Great video, really enjoyed it.
Awesome - thank you, Andrew!
what prize does the winner get?
I'm not too sure, I know he got a trophy and medal - but I'm not 100% sure what else. Probably had a load of pints bought for him, too 😆🍺
Absolutely great coverage of the event! Thank you!
Cheers Shawn, glad you enjoyed the video! 🙏🏼
Love it! Great video 😊 thanks for having me on there - Piccalo the star of the show 😂
Thank you, Amy. I'm glad you enjoyed it! Piccalo definitely helped motivate you up that climb, haha! 😃
Great watch
Thanks Paul!
Great watch
Cheers Ian!
A lovely watch! Thanks so much for sharing. I've subbed.
Thanks for watching, and thanks for the sub! 😊
The message on his bike actually made it lighter!! Great vid guys!
Definitely! Cheers Ed, great to meet you - thanks for the chat 😃
Great vid all the best
Thanks for the visit!
I'll have to make sure I'm entering next year's event, a huge shoutout to the event organisers for putting on such a good hill climb! 🚴🏽♂💨
Glad you enjoyed it Graham and thanks for documenting the day! Great video
Brilliant mate!
Thanks Andy!
I did the Fred way before covid weather was a shocker 20mph winds I had to pedal down hills , people getting blown over hedges took like 10 hours , had a slow puncher, but watching this may have to do it again
That sounds brutal! Pedalling down the hills must have been awful... I'm glad it's helped motivate you to give it another go. I'd definitely like to have a go again next year.
👏👏👏👏great effort
Thank you Gerry!
New subscriber - enjoying the context and hi from Halifax. Looking to getting a road or endurance bike, just so confusing with them all. What Boardman is that your riding? Great effort Graham and look forward to more content pal 👍
@@philwhiteley4704 Hello Phil, thank you for your comment! The Boardman bike I have is carbon fibre, I’ve had it about 12 years. Boardman bikes are reasonably priced and have good equipment if you’re just starting out. Facebook Marketplace has some good deals. I would recommend this bike I have, but depends how much you want to spend. My son had a bike fit recently after having bought an Orbea and had to change his saddle, bars and pedals etc. Bike shops usually recommended decent bikes, you may think they are trying to sell you the best to make money, but I really do recommend not cheaping out on specific parts you’d actually need because it will prevent injury in the long run! A tip would be to see what a bike shop recommends, then find something similar on Facebook or eBay and then once you’ve found a deal, take it to a bike shop for a fit and upgrade the parts you need! Thanks for subscribing 😁
Well done again Dad! 🎉🚴🏼♂️💨
Has anyone else tried to ride "The Struggle"? 🚴🏽♂
Well done , can I ask what rear cassette gearing you used ??
Many thanks… and it’s a 11/32 rear cassette with 50/34 chain set… in hindsight I wish I’d have gone for a 36… 🙄
What a lovely bloke 😊 clearly got some talent too don't know wether he's come from another sport background but he looks in extremely good shape 👍.
Hi there, many thanks for your comments, most appreciated… Been cycling for a long time.. and amazingly feeling fitter at 60 than I was at 50! Hope to keep going for as long as I can!…
What was your approach to your small ring cassette going up Hardnot?
I went straight down to the 32 and kept spinning till 25% ~ 30%, then I just kept grinding away to the top. Next time it will be a 34 or 36 cassette 😳👍
@@grahamthecyclist That’s a tortuous angle to be attempting to stay up right. Particularly where it is placed in the ride. Many years ago, I completed the 3 State / 3 Mountain here in the states …Chattanooga TN. On the hard climbs, particularly Lookout Mountain you had to focus on ignoring the walkers when the grade reached a paltry 17%. I was probably running a triple a few times and was glad I had it. Congratulations again to you.
Amazing effort, well done 🎉🚴🏼♂️💨
Thank you! 🙏🏼😊
Thanks for watching , much appreciated🚴♂️😀
What a brilliant effort!!. You must be superfit to get up those horrible climbs without walking!. How much training did you have to do for the event and what gearing did you use?. Once again well done!.
Hi Steven, thank you for the kind comment, I really appreciate it! I started training for this event in December, all my rides were hilly and I'd built up slowly from 2.5 hrs, progressing to 7 1/2 - 8 hours by April / May with no stopping. Gearing was 50/34 - 11/32 ⚙️😊
Only a 32!!. Brilliant effort!.
@@stevenfreeman7798 Yep! Thank you haha😁
Chapeau indeed! Congratulations on a great video, and completing the FWC, without stopping on the climbs too! So pleased the weather was good to you, despite the head wind.
Many thanks! I'm still in shock that I was able to do it, especially with it being the first time. Yes, the weather was good to us that weekend... a bit of a shock having sun, but definitely not complaining 🤣🚴🏽♂️☀️
Beautiful event! And a great first video.
Yes it was! Thank you too 😃
