Amazing to find this. I would have been at the school then. Basil Pogson was a fairly new head at that time. This was before the red brick wall had been knocked into the field by an over enthusiastic pupil swinging on the climbing frame.

Back then, it was 1968 is nearly 55 previous years ago is 8 previous years before I was born. In those days, 1968 had slam door 🚪 trains 🚆 🚊 🚂. There weren’t electric ⚡️ door 🚪 trains 🚂 🚊 🚆 at the time 🕜. These trains 🚊 like 👍 that honestly don’t exist used part of British Rail anymore. These trains 🚆 are 1st generation DMU - Diesel Multiple Unit trains 🚊. In the present 💝 days, there are more modern 2nd generation trains 🚆. Much better in 2023. In 5 years time 🕖, it will be 2028 where the year 1968 will be aged 6️⃣0️⃣ years old.Very ancient history now updated on Wednesday 12th April 2023. Old trains 🚂 🚆 🚊 are better than walking 🚶‍♂️ to be honest. In 1968, it was called British Rail. Crikey, doesn’t time fly quickly and likewise life is short. My age at present 💝 is 47 years old and had my birthday 🥳 🎂 🎉 recently in the previous month is March. I was born on Tuesday 9th March 1976. The older you get, the quicker years come and go. 😀 😃 😃 😁 😄 😆 👍 👍 👍 👍

I remember all the sea birds going mad when the light was going and then all went silent during the full eclipse. Street Lights started turning on. The best thing though was as the light came back you could see the suns shadow or something strange travel in the sky at 1000 miles per hour out over the sea towards the east. It was the most bizarre thing helped by the cloudy skies.

I have very fond memories of this wonderful little train running under it's full sized brethren on the main line above . My parents loved to go for holidays in Colwyn Bay and every year this train was a huge part of the attraction. Thank goodness your Father was able to capture it on film . It's so hard to find much about it now . I wonder where the engine ended up ??

Hi Ian, thanks so much for sharing these videos. I thought you might like to know that after extensive checking of the TV schedule, your wonderful “1965 Christmas” video is actually Boxing Day 1964. I was finally able to track down the safari footage which is from the 2.10pm broadcast of Zanzabuku, with the clip shown being 39 minutes into the film, giving us a time of 2.49pm for that footage!

@@ianstonesI've been trying to work out what the second clip is on the television, as it might be lost media. It looks like multicam TV drama, but hard to tell. Strangely, though, it doesn't seem to match anything broadcast on that Boxing Day around that time. Black Beauty is the only good candidate and there's no matching scenes. It's a real puzzle. I started to wonder if the Zanzabuku clip was actually a trailer shown on Christmas Day, advertising the Boxing Day film. I don't suppose you recall if/why you would be opening presents on Boxing Day?

Great footage - just as I remember it as a child. Having been recently I was very disappointed, a lot of money spent on the zoo since those times making life better for the animals but as a visitor experience not good - too expensive, not enough animals, too much foliage small children will not see much and expensive food. Save your money.

I have found a few still photos but this is the first time I have seen the train moving (and in colour) since then. You do know how to bring back old memories. This film shows how farmers and hands were proud of their skills ,the judges were ruthless in their perfection. One thing not shown in the film was that there were a number of steam tractors that also took part in the competitions . They would normally work ploughing in pairs ,one each end of the field, toughing a plough on a cable. If I remember correctly they had reversible ploughs that meaning they ploughed on each crossing of the field. They were really skilled at thier work

I went all over Shropshire and especially south of Shrewsbury with my late father who dug by hand and operated trenchers just the same as the one shown on your video. He must have laid hundreds of miles of clay pipes in his time. He worked for the WarAgg (war ministry for food production during and after the war) based at Condover Camp then was self employed for a while before working for Kinch Parry Ltd , Baston Hill. 2.30 how long did Elton John work on the line? Whereabouts is that derailment and what caused it? I remember the original Earl came off the line at Portmadoc having divided the frog of the points approaching the station circa 1971 (or was it Merdyn?). It broke leading axle. PS How come Merdyn has survived through the years but now two Earls are knackered?
