Rama DUCK Linear Switches - GMMK Pro vs Mode Sonnet
First up, as you may (or probably not) know, I'm more of a tactile gang sort of dude. I generally don't like typing on linears because I need the response, and quite a lot of linears feel "mushy" to me - in that, the travel time taken for me to "feel something" (i.e. bottom out) is too long or takes too much downward force from a keypress.
So I can say that these Rama ducks are spec'd the way I'd like them.
Firstly, the long pole gives a 3.7mm travel, shorter than the typical 4mm, so the bottom out is quick, which I had previously established is a personal requirement for myself for linears.
So this feels something like the Akko CS Silvers (here: th-cam.com/video/QTTMxbSC2Ko/w-d-xo.html), which has an incredibly (perhaps shockingly) short 3mm travel.
Now here's where the DUCKS surpasses the CS Silvers, its smooooooooth af. Very smooth. I'm not sure what voodoo magic is going on here, but there is not a hint of friction from the stem sliding down the rails. The advertised polished stem rails and factory lubing is (for once) true to its word.
The result is that the DUCKS (60g spring) feel lighter than the Silvers (45g spring), which obviously isn't physically the case (I checked)... but that's what it feels like, and that's what makes these so joyous to type on.
(Of course, I'm sure that there's other linears out there that have similar traits, though I've not found any that I've fallen in love with, until now.)
OK on to the sound. I'm really not sure what the mute mounting pads do, because these switches are hardly on the muted side of things. They are quite loud - I would not recommend if you need to type in a quiet environment.
Apart from the volume, they sound beautiful to me. I guess the mute mount trims the top end clack somewhat. I very much love how it sounds on the Mode Sonnet (with POM plate and PC bottom).
So yes, I love these switches. I think my quest (here: th-cam.com/play/PLyf-zpxn6F2OBIGuaGssXo_59MCl7ZL0Q.html) for The One linear switch has ended for now.
So I hope Rama somehow manages to get these retailing at a more accessible price, so that more people can experience them.

Dangkeebs Strawberry Milk Tactile Ice vs OG
มุมมอง 4.3K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Here's a comparison between the 2 Dangkeeb Strawberry Milks version - the OG and the newly released Ice. I tested them on my Mode Eighty, on both the aluminum and POM plates (so 4 sound tests in total!). The OG Strawberry Milks have always been one of my favourite switches. I really love the D shaped tactility and how they sound, so I immediately ordered the Ice when they were first released. T...

Rama U80 Rebuild - JWK Black T1 Tactiles + Geekark 9009 Reverse Cangjie

A couple of things arrived in the mail around the same time and I decided to slap them onto the Rama U80. First the JWK Black T1's: I saw that these were selling at a good "budget" price and decided to get a full set. Its also my first full set of T1's, and I've not had a new set of heavy tactiles (my preferred "genre" of switch), so I'm quite excited! So these fall into what I categorise as mu...
Taming the Gateron Azure Dragon Tactiles with MMSTUDIO Class 65 + GMK Mitolet

I've not posted a new video about the MMSTUDIO Class 65 because it was stuck in "endgame" mode. I just couldn't bring myself to take off the Boba U4T's which went amazingly well with it. I also decided to change things up from my NK65 EE (previously known as "Rasberry Banana Split": th-cam.com/video/L4aISueQB6c/w-d-xo.html ), because I wanted to use a plastic keyboard for a bit. Idiot me managed to break my Mode Eighty's daughter board. So I had to order a new one from Mode, and decided to get the POM plate to justify the shipping. So here's a video checking things out with my ever favourite Dangkeebs Strawberry Milk (Tactile) comparing it to the Alum plate. Rama U80 - Hype.Keyboard FR4 Plate vs Stock Brass Plate (Strawberry Milk Tactile / GMK Belafonte)

So I was browsing hypekeyboards.ca and realised that they have an FR4 plate for the Rama U80, and being a loyal return customer (I also got the KBD67 and GMMK Pro ones), I ordered it immediately to check it out. So, the usual expected characteristics are there: FR4 is softer than Brass, so no surprises that the typing becomes softer and more comfortable. What I was surprised about is the degree...

I initially only bought this one because of the big bezel and layout (duh), but my goodness, it turns out that this thing is a real banger. I put these switches in an online shopping cart as a placeholder... then accidentally ordered them. After they arrived, I decided to swap them out for my deep thocky Oil King linears. I fell in love with the feel of these switches and they remain in my primary keyboard. My son, who is not a keyboard enthusiast, even commented how he liked the sound. They have a higher pitch thocc compared to the Oil Kings, but a very good sound... maybe a bit louder. They are very tight feeling and sounding, as the review suggests.

My second keyboard build thankfully ended up being the Sonnet instead of a GMMK Pro or a Keychron Q1. I had no idea I could get a keyboard to sound as good as all those youtuber ASMR videos. Used Boba U4T 62g, POM plate, foam, and silicone. Navy/Gold case with GMK Deep Navy keycaps from my old build. As you alluded to in the video, this is "it" and will be my primary board for a very long time.

Hi I found your video while trying to decide between the Akko Jelly Purple and CS Lavender Purples. Thank you for the 2 Tactile videos! Can I ask your advice? I prefer tactile switches but from what I've read, I think the popular tactile switches such as the Boba U4Ts and Tecsee Neapolitan switches would be too heavy for me. I do a lot of typing for my job and need switches that won't be too heavy so that I don't fatigue. Thanks to your videos, I became more interested in the Designer Studio White Jade switches and Loobed Cotton Candy. Do you feel that the White Jades are pretty easy to type on and not too fatiguing? Great video, I was struggling between jelly purple and lavender. I couldn't hear any difference or ping noise but if you say its there and feels annoying its enough to eliminate the jelly. Im a linear fan to be honest and kinda broke one so i have to be sure before going for it, do they feel too hard? Sorry if its not the right word, i dont know much about switch terminology. I mean, I have only tested Outemu Dustproof Red (Too soft) and Cherry MX Blue (Hated it) but I think something between these two would be great. Is Lavender Purple what am I looking for in a budget?

I dont think they are "hard" at all, in fact quite the opposite (compared to the "heavy tactile switches"). I do think that the Lavender Purples are great for the price, I can recommend them for sure 👊

1 month later, but they are actually light tactiles.

Jelly purple is the natural evolution of the Lavander

Do you notice along with the comfortably increase with FR4 any more give or flex or does the MUTE keep the board mostly in tact and its just the sound profile that changes?

the MUTE definitely keeps the board tact - perhaps because its so thick? There is a little bit more flex, but I don't think that the its that significant.

how do these switches compare to the boba u4ts? how is the tactility and feel of the switches? love how it sounds btw<3

They are different for sure: U4T's: more rounded tactility. Bottom out is more "muted", and they are thockier sounding Strawberry Milks: Sharper tactility. Bottom out is louder, less thocky overall, but I wouldn't say they are clacky, its just the louder bottom out coming through Both are top 5 for me though, would be really happy with either!
