Also, they finally removed annoying trade evolutions and made them evolve at certain level, like Golem, Machamp, Gengard etc. I wish there were other new gen games with mods like that.

I recently played through Fire Red Rocket Edition, and I gotta say I really love how it shows a different side of the usual story, and how it incorporates various fan theories in a way that mostly makes sense lol. I just wish it had at least a little bit of post game content (aside from trying to catch legendaries and stuff), but overall I highly recommend it!

Some that weren't mentioned here and are outdated by far now but were the very first Pokemon romhacks that I ever played were the ruby destiny series. Even though just about every romhack that comes out now easily outclass those, I still have a soft spot for them for being my firsts, as well as being complete games. Another one I liked was shiny gold, which was honestly buggy as hell sometimes, but was the first one that I ever saw expand the pokedex beyond the game's original capacity and incorporate mega evolutions into GBA software.

Sounds fun to try, I'd probably just start with encounters/starters to begin with

the author just did another continuation of dark rising with modern standard, what a mad lad she has been making romhack since highschool, it's on a beta phase with 5 hours of gameplay

There's a few on this list I need to try out. The ones I can say I've tried and loved are Liquid Crystal and Dark Violet. Complete masterpieces. Although I did play Gaia for a bit and liked it, I never got a chance to jump back into it because I have so many ROM hacks in my phone and when I see news about one or more new ROM hacks coming around, it automatically catches my attention and I stop. The only ROM hack I was able to completely finish was Dark Violet

You didn't play Heart Red or Silver Yellow Remix? Those are like the two most historically discussed and appreciated ROM hacks for the series.
