This is fantastic!! Of course, I’m sitting in the safety of my bed, on my iPad and I just love the aesthetics. Are all the pictures from 1978? I love the paint, on the signs, windows and even the way the taxis are painted. Love the Toyota shovel nosed taxi painted with red and blue and white! 2:25 bottom left. I think many of us disaffected types in our 50s and 60s still love (almost love, but it’s just escape) the bar streets of SE Asia today, and they are all there because of the Vietnam war and the stationing of US forces and their bases. I’m talking Pattaya in Thailand etc. I’m really curious to see how these cities in the Philippines are now.

I left in 1978 also after a tour at Cubi Pt. Right across from the White Rock beach sign, a road to the right goes way up the mountain. My mother-in-law owned a nice house up there. Still in the family. I went back for another tour at Cubi Pt. in 1981.

Thanks for the memories. I remember a number of those bars. And the bbq, whatever mystery meat that was. 😊

I served on the USS Kirk FF 1087 from 78-79. Later on ship was sold to Taiwan and renamed.

1st time in Subic was 1979. I partied like a Rock Star with my team. Was in and out for the next five years. I always wondered how many children I have over there. I was with at least 60 wonen.😂

Loved my many trips to Subic Bay with the navy in the early 70's.

Ah I can smell the Shit River again ! USS Constellation 1977-1979. Loved Olongapo, great people and plenty of San Miguel. I owned the tiny bar " Elmer's Place" just outside the main gate to town. A close and great Filipino friend ran it for me and when I finally went home to the states I gave him the bar as a gift. They were great and friendly people, I will never forget them. Thank you for the video.

I was there in 77-78 on the USS Midway CV-41 some of the fondest memories , I retired in 2018 and moved to The Philippines for good in 2019 and have lived in Cubu Philippines since.

I spent a week in Subic before I ever saw it get dark! I stayed sober till after dark one night and was amazed it was even better! Thanks for the memories, I spent years on those streets and still miss them today

Man those where great days. Adult Disneyland. Had so much fun. Miss it. But it's gone for ever.

There a few time on a very long WesPac from 90 -91 with the Corps. The main gate is the only thing that looks the same!! Good times there for sure!!

Served as a Sonar Tech. 1973-1975 on this ship out of Norfolk, VA when it was named a DE-1090 then renamed as a FF-1090.
