Hornby France Echelle O - Wagon Refrigerant STEF (version Française)

Fun little project: fixing up a tinplate 1950's O Gauge SNCF STEF Refrigerated car Hornby France
Another fun little project as an example what you can easily do yourself; fixing up a tinplate car. This O gauge refrigerated car was produced by Hornby Meccano France during the late 50's and came in train sets. The car had a crusty rusty roof and chassis but beside some minor rust and some discolored spots the tin litho body was in reasonable state. Chassis and roof were repainted. I could ha...
O scale tinplate 0-6-0 locomotive 1955 E172 by HWN - Heinrich Wimmer Nürnberg
A tinplate 0-6-0 locomotive produced by the German company HWN (Heinrich Wimmer Nürnberg). HWN existed from 1920 to 1976. I couldn't find much information about this specific locomotive. The plastic (Bakelite?) wheels and the number 1955 on front suggest that the locomotive was made in the mid 50s. Also, between 1945 and 1952 toys produced in Nürnberg were commonly marked: "Made in US Zone Germ...
Fun little project: O scale 1950's tin litho Hornby France #27513 ETAT Bagage car(s) swap
Just a fun little project that you can easily do yourself; making a half-decent car out of several rough condition cars. As it is almost impossible to restore damaged or rusted litho it is a solution to collect and use parts from several cars to make one. In this case an O scale French Hornby tinplate #27513 baggage car. This was a very common car that was found in several Hornby O scale trains...
Rusty Hornby O scale tinplate SNCF BB-8051 "bicolore" (DC motor) - got it running again!
This Hornby / Meccano 1B1 (2-4-2) SNCF BB-8051 was in pretty rusted condition when it arrived. This two tone "motrice' had a DC motor and was produced from 1957 untill 1963. I bought this set from a friendly seller, from Milan, Italy who kindly informed me that the trainset belonged to his grandfather who was a captain on vessels during the late 1950's. The grandfather probably bought the train...
Repairing 'Rosie the Roussy' a French steeplecab 'Montagnarde' 0 scale locomotive by Louis Roussy
I repaired this Louis Roussy 'Montagnarde' SNCF locomotive for my good friend in Australia. It arrived with loose wheels, bent chassis, a broken direction lever and it was missing the light armature. It needed to be repaired and I made a new light using an E10 fitting and a 18 Volts lightbulb. Now it is running again and it was given the name 'Rosie the Roussy' as sweet locomotives deserve swee...

This little 0 scale steam engine was build using the damaged shell of a Marx 401 mechanical locomotive, powered with a Lionel MPC era motor. The shell was shortened. The tender is Marx. The video shows the different steps of the build and of course running the locomotive. Hope you like it. Feel free to comment.

    Nice job, fit and finish perfect. Did you use an airbrush or a rattle can for the paint job?

    • @SmallGardenRailroad
      @SmallGardenRailroad 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks! Just a rattle can, both primer and the black. Some sort of acrylics, it dries fast (even faster with a hair dryer) and give pretty good results.

    I use a toothbrush, dawn dish soap, and medium warm water.

      That will work as well indeed and although it takes more time that way you actually remove the release agent instead of only making it not visible anymore.

      @@SmallGardenRailroadyou want to remove the release agent as it is not productive for the end result. I don’t think it harms the plastic, but it doesn’t help. I worked in a Stove plant as a tooling director for several years, all of our drawn parts went to a high pressure high temperature washer to have all agents removed before further processing.

    Hi, Have one the same. Do you oil the armature bearing by putting machine oil (I use Inox MX3) in the central cotton filled tubes on each side? I presume it's designed for that...well I hope so as I oiled it there and all other necessary places and seems to be running fine.

    • @SmallGardenRailroad
      @SmallGardenRailroad 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your comment and sorry for my late reply. I missed your comment until now. Actualy I use 10W40 car motoroil for all my trains (this 1957 engine is one of the most "modern" ones I have). I think back than there were less options than today and normal oil, sewing machine oil or handy oil was common to use for it. The old maintenance leaflets also only mention "oil" without further explanation. It are all metal gears, no plastics etc. I got the idea for 10W40 from BenzTrainz on TH-cam and it works great for these older trains. I would not recommend it for modern trains ( like from the 80's to present).

      @SmallGardenRailroad 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh and yes, the cotton filled tube is indeed designed to put in some oil for lubrication. It was pretty standard for Hornby motors. I believe the plastic Lionel Scout motors had a similar cotton filled opening to lubricate.

    Marx guy here, I just found your channel. Tin Marx is all that I collect for trains. Do those turn offs give you trouble with a Marx single reduction motor?

    • @SmallGardenRailroad
      @SmallGardenRailroad ปีที่แล้ว

      These Lionel 1121 switches have no guide rails. This makes them "friendly" for the thicker geared Marx wheels. If the thick wheel is on the outer rail of the straight side of the turn off it runs very smooth actually. If it is in the inner rail it tend to jump a very little sometines, but still work fine. In the video you see the 999 runs with the thick wheels on the inner rail. You can notice the engine makes 'little jumps' on the switches but run through them without a problem. The 1121's are actually prewar and still produced a few years after (the ones I have are the late version 1121's). It was replaced by the 1122, but these had the guide rails and are not useable with Marx trains. Btw: I found your channel now too and are looking forward to see videos on your custom build locomotives!

    Are they German built toys, very early in the start of WW II? I`m a Marx Tin Man myself.

    • @SmallGardenRailroad
      @SmallGardenRailroad ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes indeed, German made in late 30's (1939) by the Technofix company. Although I believe in the 30's the company was still named "Gebrüder Einfalt" (Einfalt brothers) and the name Technofix was used after the war / since early 50's. The 2 windup cars came as a set with an 8 shaped tinplate circuit. It had a traffic light were the roads crossed in the middle of the 8. The circuit had a mechanism: one car stopped automaticly at the traffic light until it was released by the other car passing the traffic light and this repeated itself. There were 2 versions: a "continental" one with a traffic light and one for the British market (I believe it had a traffic controler / policeman instead of a traffic light). The cars are very close to scale to use with 0 scale trains.
