Assessment of Mold Growing on Wood in New Construction Home
Maybe you’re building your dream home, or maybe you’ve decided to buy a new construction home with a new neighborhood. Whatever path you’ve chosen, finding mold within the property during the construction phase is never fun to deal with.
In this video, we take a look at some mold developments and all the moisture that comes with it at a property I visited earlier today. After some thorough reporting and subsequent mold remediation work by a restoration contractor, these findings should be a mere thing of the past.

Determining If This Fresh Air Intake Is Abandoned
มุมมอง 221ปีที่แล้ว
When it comes to bringing outside, fresh air into a property, it’s always best to look for existing ducting that is located in optimal areas. In this case, I was lucky enough to stumble upon a 4 inch abandoned duct located within this attic. And while this 4 inch duct may or may not be used for bringing in fresh air to the new ventilating dehumidifier, this duct will need to be capped off at th...
What Is Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Testing And Do I Need It?

These are questions that you might be asking yourself at this very moment. Within this video, I discusses IAQ and IEQ (Indoor Environmental Quality) Assessment and compare this to more common services, such as Mold Testing, VOC Surveys, etc. Want to learn m...
Could The Atmotube Pro Be The Best Portable, Wearable Air Quality Sensor Out There?!

Alas! A portable air quality meter that I can conveniently carry with me everywhere I go. In this video, I review the Atmotube Pro - “Wearable, portable air quality monitor and weather station”. This device reads and reports on Temperature, Relative Humidity (RH), PM1, PM2.5, PM10, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and Barometric Pressure. According to Atmotube, the PM Sensor within this device...

How To Setup A Containment Isolation Barrier With Self Closing Zipper
He’s making a mistake when Comparing VOC with TVOC. TVOC Is the totally organic compounds , where as Voc is measuring a specific organic compound. That’s why the TVOC is higher than the VOC. He doesn’t understand the sensor technology. The device might be made to measure the higher organic level which means that this device might be chemical specific detection.
Thanks again for chiming in. I entertained the thought that the device might not detect an array of VOCs, which is why I tested it against common VOCs that you might find indoors. However, I will be the first to admit I am wrong, if/when someone from Airthings or anyone else who has the subject matter expertise to explain why the Airthings devices VOC readout does not correlate to any of the common VOCs that you’d find indoors.
You seems to be making a mistake with voc ! VOC AND TVOC , measurement would be different! TVOC IS total and VOC measure specific organic compounds that’s why it’s lower
I appreciate your insight. I’m aware of the difference between the two. Unfortunately, the devices that I have don’t track/trend well to any VOCs.
@IAQJosh - I just found your channel. Thank you for providing such fantastic content! I wish you lived or worked in AZ. 🙏 We are planning to 'retire' our central, ducted HVAC system in the 20 year old home we just purchased. My kids and I have genetics that make us exquisitely sensitive to fat soluble toxins like mycotoxins from mold. So, we're hypervigilant. The air handler is located in the attic and original to the home. The unit and ductwork is gross and I'm thinking it will make more sense to cover the existing registers and install new mini splits rather than try to clean/replace the entire system, especially because we're so sensitive. Given that, I'd like to educate myself about the mini splits that are easiest to clean and maintain. Specifically, I'd like to find units where all the wet parts are accessible, cleanable, and ideally removable. There seems to be a shortage of mini split expertise in our area so I would welcome any suggestions. Thank you! ☺
Thanks this info saves lives
Thank you for watching!
So the supply lines were metal ducts wrapped in insulation? In my house I have metal ducts but then some sections (elbows?) have insulation. I do not know if it is insulation inside metal duct or if it is a section of non metal duct. If insulation is inside a metal duct can it be removed?
About how much does something like this situation cost?
what brand of zipper are you using?
You really shouldn't install mini splits on your own. Look up mini split explosions. Seville is Amazon junk, I'm not really sure how they get around EPA regulations. You need a licensed HVAC tec. Mitsubishi or LG is my go to in ductless systems. Mini Split are like guns, if you've never heard of the brand, don't buy it!
Do you know what was the cause of the wet wall and how it was remedied ? Thanks.
I don`t have any of those gloves, will i still get the proper reading ? ?
So what if you are aware of water damage is there guaranteed mold? My roof has leaked throughout a few widely spaced storms and in those 3 or 4 occasions I had water leaking into the house along a couple parts of the walls where there are exposed beams. Each time it dried the landlord came and recaulked and puttied the inside leak stains. After the most recent leak they tarped the roof and I haven’t seen any sign of water coming in since. However this time there was the most amount of water for a longer period of time and there is still a discolored stain where the biggest leak was. I bought a moisture meter to test these areas and most of the readings along these two walls were around 8-10% and in two small areas the highest was about 17%. Does this indicate a mold problem?
why did you not give us any benchmark data comparing the readings to 'golden standard' device?? we can not know anything regarding its accuracy from this review :(
Josh question how do we upload the sketch up into the blank sheet?
Omg... Im 14 and live in a small room of our house and ive been having issues with typical mold and mildew in my room for a few years and recently my mood and behavior has been very strange. Today i found WHITE MOLD ON MY CURTAINS AND WINDOW SILL!!! I THOUGHT IT WAS DUST FOR A GOOD 3-4 MONTHS😐 I have no clue what im gonna say to my parents, its 5 am and ive been up all night panicking cus of it 😢
Its likely not something we can tackle our selves, my eyes are literally burning while typing this :')))
Great video. I think the saying is tell tale sign though lol
Yep! Sure is. Appreciate you watching and leaving a comment.
I just looked in my vent and it’s scary 😂. Right here in Fort Lauderdale
Oh no! We definitely have the hot, humid climate to support mold doing its thing. Sorry to hear about your findings.
Thanjs for the information, btw the beard doesn't suit you.
Thanks for the comment! Btw, negative comments about one’s appearance doesn’t suit you. 😎
@@IAQJoshit wasn't a negative comment or meant as one. Just sharing my opinion, but if you are going to keep it, shape it up. Think Gerald Butler's character King Leonidas from 300.
@@bobbyleglocks1992 If you're saying that I have an untamed beard, I completely agree with ya. It's kind of my thing. Maybe one day I'll spend more time taking care of it. lol

Unless you enjoy all of the craziness that is my life. 🙃
Bro, lemme send you pictures of what I just discovered in the closet of my master bathroom 😱. MOLD!!! It looks like black mold, and I think the cause is an improperly installed and sealed shower. 🙄 (it was a flipped house when we bought it, thinking everything was done properly, or at least up to code. 🤬) Our house is concrete block, so I'm hoping that means the mold will be easier to remedy, as it hopefully has less wood and drywall to penetrate. (At least, that's my uneducated theory) God knows we can't afford to NOT do it ourselves, and with that said, it's not even something we can afford to do ourselves at the moment. 😢 Idk what to do, because we have to have the shower and tile completely gutted in order to correct the issue, and who tf has that kinda cash laying around? No, I'm seriously asking, anyone got $20k burning a hole in their pocket??? 😂 I'll totally help you out and take those bands off your hands. 😂
Man… so sorry to hear about your situation.
One of the best analyses I have seen.
Thank you for the kind words. Appreciate it!
Very well put together video. However, Just out of curiosity… are decontamination chambers a thing over in Florida? Along with wearing a suit? I ask because you went to the extent of building a nice containment on the door with make up air, utilizing an air scrubber. A very expensive mask, but then don’t use a suit nor build a decontamination chamber to change in and out of your suit to prevent cross contamination into other areas of the home.
Excellent professional observations! To your question of decon chambers being a thing in Florida, they most certainly are. They are definitely more prevalent within the asbestos abatement sector, but companies like mine and others will utilize them to better manage the process. As to your comments about a suit and such, I specifically lined up a small scale project for a DIY video - as anything larger would be professional level scale. A suit is definitely a “best hygienic practice” move, so excellent job bringing that to light for viewers. Thanks for watching and for your comments!
They're also not x-ray vision cameras 🤦🏽♂️ The number of customers who think they are is crazy.
Preach.. Lots of layman’s think that these things can see into the walls. Don’t we wish it were true!

Amazing containment. Keep learning how to do better remediation.
Appreciate it! Containment is an art, and one that I’m always working on improving myself.
A waste of my time Is watching this video You don't explain anything of what the numbers mean

What specific trst for humans please
Talk to an allergist doc... they can do blood test/urine test for mycotoxins.... the urine test may be less accurate but yea talk to allergist.
I have mold toxicity in my body...we had mold for at least 6 years in attic and going through the ducts because they were rotted and like notebook paper...noone listened now it all uad to be replaced but health wise I hope I recover and 8k it affected my family they just wony admit its from thos but i was here and it 100% is
Sorry to hear that. Mold can definitely spread like a wild fire - given the right conditions.
I feel your pain... our family is going through exact same thing... this house was built poorly and we've had bad health issues. Of course insurance wont cover it. Sol. There r ways to detoxify your body but ugh... If only house inspectors wouldnt be crooked, builders would take pride in their work, and school/1st time home buyers would run an educational course of house maintenance. Then again, "they dont really care about us" 😔

May I hire you as my video director?
@ only if you’re sitting on my casting couch
lol that mask ain’t doin shit
I beg to differ… It’s making it harder to breathe in the air in front of me.
Sure, it’s making you struggle so you just have to breathe harder. But the particles you are avoiding are smaller than the fibers of that mask can filter. You obviously know this because otherwise you wouldn’t use proper respirators, 6 mil plastic and Hepa filters that are all chosen due to this exact phenomena.
What meter are you using?
I use Tramex and Delmhorst moisture meters. Tramex on the surface and Delmhorst for the penetrating (pins). The ME5 and BDX-30 are my daily carry meters currently.
What certificates are needed to open a business?
Speaking specifically to the State of Florida, no certifications are needed to open a business. However, if you plan on performing mold testing services, you would need to acquire an MRSA state license.
I learned a lot from this. We have a pro coming to remediate our bathroom, and now i have some idea of how this all works.
Thanks for the feedback! Best of luck with the remediation.
I am wondering why you created the air inlet with the filter for neg air vs running without?
Great question! I used a filter in this application for a couple of reasons: 1. I am able to maintain a negatively pressurized containment area, with reference to the bedroom, all while maintaining relatively neutral pressure within the bedroom itself. This is important because it ensures that I avoid pushing cooler, indoor air into the interstitial spaces. 2. I am able to bring in cooler air from the bedroom, ultimately promoting more favorable working conditions.
By utilizing filter, I can minimize potential cross-contamination, in the event that there is a power outage and the negatively pressurized air filtration devices turns off. If the containment area decides to pressurize, the filter will assist with excess particulate trying to make its way out of the work area.
