All my life I’ve been a creative. Video editing was/is my dream role and I worked in the creative field for abt 3 years after university. My 3rd year, the environment of the creative company I worked for turned really toxic, had mass layoffs and went under shortly after. It was a whirlwind. I fell into a depression for awhile and stopped creating the way I once did. Picking myself up now and getting back to it. I’ll come back better than before. Your videos are always a reminder for me to work harder. Your work is truly so appreciated

Another hit Sky! I started film university this September, and honestly its going amazing. The stuff I am learning is mind blowing, and even thought I am not living the 'College Life', I still love it. I have a similar story, I started client based editing when I was 16, and have been doing it since then. However, I do always doubt, was University the right decision? I'll never know, but I do know I am gonna achieve my dreams and goals no matter what position I am in. Thanks Sky, loving the new format!

Such an insightful story. 🤩 It’s always great hearing other artists’ career journeys. I went to university to study graphic design and dropped out 3 months in because it just didn’t feel right for me. My catalyst for taking that step was watching The Whylonewolf podcast by Justin Odisho. I decided I was going to drop out that same night as I was watching the podcast 😭 I pursued filmmaking as a freelancer and enrolled to a film school the following year. Im graduating next month and I still freelance to this day as my main source of income.

Man... What a good watch. And a very relatable one. I also said no to college back in 2019, then started exploring different ways and covid also gave me a pretty perfectly timed NO. Honestly, I believe I wasn't quite ready for the plans I had, and it just opened so many doors for me at the time. If it wasn't for it, I would've never becoma a full time Paperer (wallcoverings installer) for 5 years now. Which is a practical skill that I'll now take for the rest of my life. But definitely considering getting back to some of the initial plans I had, now that I feel in a much better position to do so. Just to prove that it's also never too late to say no to the good to go for the greater good. Keep up with the amazing content, you're smashing it!

I'm doing all technical skills like learning more text animation and sound design lately like you and mapal and not focusing on soft skills like communicating. 'coz I am believing that I'll alright if i learn some really handy skills in comparison of talking to clients. Since at the end, both me and client want the good video.

You've earned yourself a Subscribe from your SFX video! You are super underrated but I cannot wait to keep up with your content in the future! In the Animated Painting video, I see that you moved projects from DaVinci to After Effects. Wondering what the process is like to transition between softwares without sacrificing quality. Like you said on your SFX video, don't do SFX on AE but I've dug myself a deep hole and I can only edit efficiently in there. SFX on AE however, absolute nightmare. Keep up the high quality content man!

After graduating, I worked in sales and marketing until one day, I won second place in a script competition organized by a TV channel. That opportunity led to a job offer, and I started working as a video editor. Going to university may not be essential for our field, but it can be crucial for engineers or those pursuing an academic career. I always love when your videos pop up on my feed! This is such a great topic and format. I did go to art school for graphic design but I pursued it in a very different time (2007-2012). Honestly, it did serve me well but that was at a time when design degrees were valued (and required). I didn't have all the opportunities to learn about design as younger designers do today through TH-cam and online classes from creators they want to learn directly from. The degree art school experience also wasn't a direct ticket to a "successful design career", it took years to build up with experiences at various companies (and I did graduate and find my first design job during a recession). If I were to start over today? I would definitely take a similar path to you.

I did went to college, but dropped out in 6 months because that's not what I really wanted to do. I went into Diploma cause my brother wanted me to learn AI and create something, but that's not what I wanted to do, what I wanted was to do business, music and writing, that's all, and I'm glad I dropped out, now I'm working on my dreams and on a job to gather funds for my dreams
