Isn’t like 90% of roads in India rural roads?What is the split? China has a lot of urban expressways which is why their logistics costs are much lower. Also roads are not the only component of logistics costs. In China, maybe there is no driver’s insurance or way side amenities like we see in India. Also BharatMala is running a huge delay. Only 50-60% of target has been completed. I like that India is making progress but the claims here appear to be tweaking the reality quite a bit.

While Nitin Gadkari is building good expressways across the nation. But the infrastructure inside the cities is crumbling. I live in a tier 2 city. Here major highways have potholes. There are manholes on highways which are dangerous and may cause accidents because they are not on same level as the highway usually a half a feet below the highway level. There are major encroachments on walkways. Highways have too many speed breakers at too short distances. The infrastructure in cities needs to improve too. There is no proper urban planning. No proper zoning laws where they have separate zones for commercial and residential properties.

India support for a two State solution undermines the friendship. One problem with this position: the Palestinians do not desire a two State solution as long as the second state is the Jewish State of Isreal. The Palestinian quest for "a right of return" is incompatible with the idea of a two state solution. Whereas it is possible for the west to create a Palestinian State this will not bring Peace as long as the Palestinians harbour the desire to eradicate the Jewish State. There will be two states but it won't be a solution!

Wish such huge orders - both present and in the future - India should demand its pound of flesh. It should insist on Airbus setting up a manufacturing center in India to make A220 and A320 aircraft. If the company dithers, India should open the field and allow Embraer (which has been offering to make in India with an Indian majority partner). In fact, it should go for this immediately, putting Airbus on notice. Embraer still makes smaller aircraft that compete with the ATR and Airbus A220 and Embraer's smaller jet aircraft could serve as short destination aircrafts that connect Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities. That should compel Airbus to rethink India manufacturing - perhaps the A320. Pilot training, MRO, simulation centers all are fine. But when India now gives huge mega orders, it's time to set the tune.
