CRT Retro Cart Progress Update
I posted earlier this year about a retro cart I was building out to play old video game consoles. This is an update on that.

I built a wire rack cart to hold my Sony WEGA CRT and a bunch of old video game consoles. Hear me ramble about it

YOUR BACK
never knew ps1 supported component video
@@brodybowerman-rogers1787 technically it does not. But HDRetrovision makes a line of cables that convert RGB to Component that work spectacularly.
@@pfhorsworn see now that's different all together and should be explained in video
Missed this update! Nice, keep em coming! That auto switcher is sweet! Props for improving your modding skills btw! I had to send off my top loading NES, Genesis, SNES & N64 for RGB modding 💰 😅 (My retro cart is tiny w/a 20” PVM)
What size CRT is that? Is that a Sony trinitron 27 inch? If so please let me know what exact cart that is exactly. I’m looking for a metal track cart for 27 inch Sony trinitron
This is a 32” TV. I did switch to a 27” set however, and it’s ok on the rack too. Check other comment threads for the info on what rack it is.
Where did you get your shelf? Im having a hard time finding one with the right width and depth for a large CRT
Amazon. "Nexel 3 Adjustable Wire Shelves Shelf Cart, Chrome Finish, 24" W x 36" L"
@@pfhorsworn thank you!
Except for the PS2, all of them will draw power when idle (off). Retro consoles are notorious to use a bunch of power during off state. It will save you electricity while preserving the components even more. What I did for mine is use 10A lamp switches that goes in between the power strip and console. Power Strip>>>female to male extender splice hot wire with lamp switches>>>stock console wires.
Right now I’m turning the whole cart on and off at the power strip, but it’d be nice if there were an easier option.
I posted an update to this setup: th-cam.com/video/CmQKecFiOa0/w-d-xo.html
Which rack cart is this? and is that a 36" WEGA? Is this the one linked to amazon from retro rgb? "TRINITY EcoStorage Heavy Duty 3 Tier Rolling Cart for Kitchen Organization, Garage Storage, Commercial and Industrial Use, NSF Certified, 800 Pound Capacity, 40.25” by 36” by 18”, ChromeTRINITY EcoStorage Heavy Duty 3 Tier Rolling Cart"
No, because this TV was so large, I searched for a cart to match. Search on Amazon: "Nexel 3 Adjustable Wire Shelves Shelf Cart, Chrome Finish, 24" W x 36" L"
Wow 200 pounds? It's almost 91 kilograms, that's heavy
Yes. Moving it was a paaaaaain
@@pfhorsworn i got a 32 inch Trinitron so i think a retro cart can with her
I just got a 36" Inch today. Took 3 of us to get it in my trunk. I looked it up and that thing is 236 pounds. It's still in my trunk.....I have stairs....I'm going to need to hire a moving company...
@@GameStormerGXSame, I got over that's is around 250 pounds. Feels like 300 easy. I worry that these rack can't hold that much weight even before adding consoles 😢
Its funny how retro rgb made a cart video now everyone has a cart
It’s a good idea!
@@pfhorsworn I have one too but its an lcd switch cart lol
Nice setup! Looks like you could add another shelf for more consoles! You’ll have to break down and get a switcher though! Get a powered switcher that has two outputs. One output will go to your CRT, the other output goes into a Retrotink then out to your flat screen or PC. It displays simultaneously without lag on the CRT (this is how people stream using retro hardware by the way). I got an old Radio Shack 4 in 2 out composite/s-video switcher off eBay less than $20.
I picked up the gamescare component switcher recently, and another rolling rack! Not really trying to be a TH-camr or anything, just documenting my setup. But I will post a follow up soon, if you’re interested.
@@pfhorsworn I get it, still you mentioned wanting to wheel the cart into range of your hdmi cable; you could plug that hdmi cable into the retrotink and play any console from the switcher on your flat screen from that second output. So switcher output 1 is for the CRT, output 2 is for the retrotink, could have either going or both at the same time. The retrotink won’t add lag, the flat screen will add a little (using a cheap hdmi converter will add more lag). Hope that makes sense, I’d watch, l’m looking for cart ideas.
This is a HD CRT, it's not hood for N64, PS1 and SNES. It looks terrible and lags a ton.
I measured about 2 frames of lag for 240p/480i. And yeah, it failed the 240p test suite shadow test. Big fail. I already got rid of it, and I’m on the hunt for a different TV. I’ll post when I get the new one if you’re interested. But I really just posted this for my friends. I’m not trying to be a TH-camr or anything 😅
@@pfhorsworn yeah, that is such a shame. unfortunately SONY HD CRTs lag like crazy in every resolution except 580p (yes, 580p) and 1080i. Games that support 580p do not exist and you can count games that support 1080i on the fingers of your hands.
what is good ? i just picked one of these guys up :\
@@kahl452 nah, these are just good for gamecube, dreamcast (with a converter), xbox, wii and other consoles with HDMI. Anything older will look the same as a LCD TV
@@someonedab7222 oh im curious, i dont think mine is the same as the big one in the video, i have the sony Kv-27fs100L. its the 27" version. is that basically the same as what your saying? What's good for playing n64? im not sure what the baseline is. Also, thank you for the reply :D
