Btw, I sent my contact @HobbyFans your channel information just now!!
Great video brother, and test! Thank you for the shout out and posting my channel, I appreciate that! We're getting close and I'll send you a mount to try! About to leave the Smoky Mountains now and head home!
Yeah man, of course! Looking forward to trying the motor mount! Hope you had fun in the mountains. I made it to the beach today.
Are the differentials the same size as the 16890?
You know, I think they might be but I did not compare part numbers. I am on vacation but could look at the manuals when I get home.
Pretty neat! Always interesting to see the differences in performance
Thanks for checking it out!
Cool video !
Take the servo saver out on 4wd it will never go strait lol
This is the first I have heard of this. Why is this unique to 4WD cars? Are you saying there is too much slop because of the servo savor? Thanks
Bro what Is the actual distance of a good speed run?
With the stock Traxxas transmitter you want about 1/2 mile total per run or about .25 mi. per each way or about 650 feet each way away from the transmitter you can see the distance of each of my speed runs on the GPS and you take that distance and divided by four calculate how far away from the transmitter on each run. If you’re only going 60 or 70 an hour, distance, but when you’re gone, you need every bit of that. It is tricky though, because unless you have a feel for it, you can easily go out range, which is of course not good. Also, fresh batteries will help maximize your range, and I did increase the height of my antenna, which helped as well.
That’s insane keep it up
Thanks! 100+ mph on 4s next!
Nice. As long as you’re not pushing it too hard you can do all sorts of crazy stuff with gearing.
Absolutely. This set up is only good for one or two runs and it needs to cool down but it’s fun! I am going to try for 100 miles an hour on 4S soon. It should do it.

It’s embarrassing how many times I’ve ran myself over lol like I get so focused on the car and completely forget about myself
🤣 That is brutal. My main problem with with my cars going off course.
I can't find any information on the esc for the 2997a and I can't figure out why it beeps twice when I turn it on but it doesn't when I switch the motor to a higher kv. Is the motor I have hooked up to it now 2s only? Is that why it beeps?
Sorry, I am not sure. What kind of motor are you running now and what are the specs?
@BriansRCStuff the motor in the truck is like a cheapo that doesn't say. It's the only one that the esc beeps when I turn it on. I hooked up two different old hosim 2845 motors from the x08 and it didn't beep at all when I power it up. Only this cheapo motor.
@@eliflynn7282 hmm, I am really not sure. Maybe just try to run it and ease into it and see how it performs.
@BriansRCStuff it acts like a beefed up 2s really. With a 50c 3s it should boogie pretty good. At least 25mph.
Got marbles ?😮
That thing is sketchy as heck!

I feel that the body is holding you back. put it on the shelf and come back to it another time. That's what I've done.
I did cut out a airflow slot in the back of the body, and I trimmed the body a bit so that the backend doesn’t act as much like a parachute… I appreciate you bringing that to my attention because I probably would not have considered it before. I was hoping as it ran okay at 50, with trimming the back of the body I hoped it would be good for 70+. I think I’m gonna give it at least one more attempt. 😎
Love this great content. Luckily the car is very light when it hit you. Brushless cool. Great work ❤
Cat like reflexes over here… I cleared it.😂….. yeah, I got lucky. Thanks!
Good effort and too bad about the breakage. I know my Meilan was way off after all the crashes and verifying it with the other GPS unit, but you could calibration check yours by running it in your actual car and see if it matches your mph on the speedo 👍 I bet you were going a good 10mph faster than it was reading!
Thanks man! Mine has been dead on (some cars actually read slightly slower than you are going) but great point. There is a lag in the readings so if you crash while accelerating it will not have time to register the top speed.
Fast ..!!!!!
I want to thank HobbyKing, not HobbyWing. HobbyWing can kick rocks!🤣
I have something to ask being new to hobby grade RC's In the Instruction manual for the 16890A it says ( before useing the car and before storing the battery to fully charge the battery ) and it also says ( only use the USB charger that came with the car to charge the batteries ) but all the guys in the comments on You Tube are telling me not to fully charge the batteries to store them and that i need a Balance charger talked Directly to Haiboxing and they told me And I quote ( fully charge the batteries to store them and to only use the USB charger that came with the car ! So who's right Haiboxing the Company who builds and sells the car or the guys in the comnent's on You Tube ??
I am SHOCKED HBX would say only use a USB charger and to store fully charged. LIPOs do not like to be left fully charged or discharged and should be stored around 3.8 to 3.85v per cell (about half charged). Your USB charger is fine for charging a 2s LIPO but getting down to storage voltage can be tricky without a hobby grade charger. What you could do for now is run it down to about 3.8v per cell or run it down a bit lower and then charge it back up to around 3.8v using a LIPO voltage checker to get it close to storage charge. Even if you get it to say 3.75 or 3.9v per cell, the LIPO will be way happier than fully charged. Leaving a LIPO fully charged will degrade the performance/capacity over time and if it was to catch fire, would have a lot more energy in it and would be a much bigger problem than one kept at storage voltage. If you want a good hobby grade charger at a great price, check out this dual channel unit (I have tested it). For under $80 on sale it is a great deal. Another great option at a low price is this more basic one channel charger for around $40 (I have also tested this one). a.co/d/0286S1e9 HBX is wrong is that is what they said.
I think most of the HBX manuals state something like "Do not leave the battery pack uncharged or fully charged for long periods of time." This is a dumbed down version of keeping it at storage voltage.
@@BriansRCStuff what Haiboxing told me is Exactly what I told you ! And they told me to fully charge the batteries every 7 days or so ! As I said I'm new to this and on a fixed income a small Is social security every month . I've looked on amazon and they have a ton of balance chargers and it's very Confusing I saw some on there in the $23 - $39 range but I don't know if the will both charge and or discharge a battery to a storage charge ! Haiboxing sent me 4 batteries for the car and going by what they said I fully charged them to store them and now I don't know how to discharge them the the right voltage to store them and if I just run them in the truck I have know way to know what the voltage is on them !! Any Suggestions ??
@@timmy4539 Well... that is how you charge a NiMH battery but not a LIPO or LiIon. Sadly that person was misinformed. : ( I am happy to try to help you to pick a good budget charger if you send me a link(s). If you want to email me in email address is in the about section of my channel or we can try to do it here (sometimes TH-cam deletes internet addresses from comments when you try to post them). The chargers I sent you links to will charge/discharge/storage voltage charge but there are many other good options out there. You are not going to ruin a LIPO overnight but leaving them fully charged but over a period of months the performance will degrade. I am really anal about keeping mine at storage voltage as I want them to perform at their best and I test LIPOs for many manufactures. When I do speedruns, I don't to wonder if I am getting the full performance out of a LIPO.... so within a few hours of running a LIPO, I put them to storage voltage. You would run your truck about half of its run time (say like 5 or 10 minutes) to at least get the LIPOs closer to storage voltage. You can get voltage checkers like these www.amazon.com/SIPYTOPF-Battery-Voltage-Warning-Indicator/dp/B0B8XDLVMS/ref=sr_1_9?crid=1IVFSA9S6IPGX&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.QcWJqPcdQnL9CI2wFHHdMpPGDunLsxCyelvBgssx4J9XTKeLmydca4r6uVSChzNQBjp-Fmnkw4VTyTxuEpewRDrea1S-6nyqeYC3wrrVz27KB0h4gyZMN1Hgu_Udr4948l3OKyut_p7Ybfe-06akQpGvBu4vDSBh5CmTY_q1NLYabsy0ItXwW8I1CWPlK-rurC3wYcdxIfACxvUiuoMQR0Vbp4vx5r-L_N1FLL7L__I.ixXQXQ21JazuFknoGXdT16yk9FsnrrpFYrg-gz8jQKo&dib_tag=se&keywords=lipo+voltage+checker&qid=1719200213&s=toys-and-games&sprefix=lipo+voltager+checker%2Ctoys-and-games%2C73&sr=1-9 They are cheap and are really nice to have when running a RC car or truck. Or, when you get a higher end charger, you are good to go.
@@timmy4539 I have a different brand but one very similar to this one. This could be a good cheap option (assuming it is build as well as the Turnigy Accucell 6 that I use). a.co/d/07rTGVKy
Great video brother! That car was moving!
It is a ripper!🙂. Thank you!
Ive always believed the Turnigy Panther Graphene's to be a great & powerfull battery, a lot of rc boat speed guys love these batteries for good reason. I still dont get quite why the tests Rc Explained done on these batteries, where he said he only got a true 23c out of the Panther Graphenes.
I don’t either. I tested their Rapid blue packs and they were solid! I hit 99 mph with the Turnigy and my top of the line SMC hit 102 (all 3s). I was impressed! This is my fist Panther and it impressed me! I wish my GPS didn’t good on that 1st run with it! RC explained seems like a great tester but I would still like to see him do some actual speed runs and not base everything on bench racing. Would be really nice data to share with folks…. But he says the roads around him are very good so I get it. He does have some nice equipment that I wish I had.
Awesome buddy. Another great comparison video
Thanks!
Good informative video as usual. Thanks Brian! 👍
Thanks for checking it out!
I recently got this truck. After many heavy jumps/backflips + landings i broke a front right driveshaft. Fortunatley the kit ibncluded 1 spare, so its fixed. Have u had any parts break? If so do you have any "links" u might recommend to order parts from? Gr8 video. ty.
Thank you! I just broke mine the other day, but I don’t think my kit came with an extra… I think I would’ve remembered that. I’m second-guessing myself now and I guess I should probably take a look. Yours came with the whole constant velocity shaft basically an axle and a dog bone? In the manual, there’s a breakdown of all the parts. You can get most of them on Amazon or eBay and in most of my video descriptions I have a link to where you can get them directly from HBX. I have broken, a rear, suspension arm, cracked the body, shattered my gears when a motor seized off at 65 miles an hour, a rear hub knuckle, and I could be forgetting something 🤣
thats some quality content right there. from Alberta Canada
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words!
Tearing up a baseball field 🤦no sh*t!
would those adapters fit the 2995?
Yes, virtually any vehicle with 12mm hex. They don’t work on my vintage Kyosho due to how the wheels mount.
Don’t forget the thread locker, however!
im very pleased w/ the King Val 540 brushless 3300 motor..it goes fast enough and gets long run times w/ any 2s or the 3s battery(Urgenex 2200)and like I stated earlier, it does get that hot..its hard for it get hot enough for the themal fan to kick on...GREAT!!
it DOES NOTget that hot..sry

Took a bad tumble, those little trucks can take a beating. Glad you didn't run into pennywise in the drain.

why cant you use different pinion gears 15T, 17T..ect...?
The mount only allows for two options… There’s no slider or anything to adjust. 🙂↕️
@@BriansRCStuff any way to use the different pinion sizes?
The 17 T seemed to line up good...?
@@whitmanft I believe if you flip the motor mount you can also run a 14t in addition to the stock 16t. Some people have said you can drill a slider hole in the motor mount and fit a few different options but that sounds pretty ghetto… I have not tried that.
@@whitmanft is that a question or a statement?😂 I have never tried, but I would be cautious because if it fits well for the 16 T, it should not also fit well for the 17. The mesh might be a little tight, but I can’t say for sure what you’re seeing. 😎
Nice test thanks for all the great battery info brother...
Thanks for checking it out.
I think they’re close to 40 mph or more stock with a 3s on the 16890sa . With a 2200 3s zee it’s really fast . With the hbx 1300mah 3s it’s not quite as fast . The zee hardly fits 😂. Prob around 40
I am pretty sure the 16890A only goes about 35 mph on 3s (I recall my 16890A going just under 35 on a 850 mAh 3s with the stock setup and the SA isn't really after). I have been tempted to put a bigger 3s in here and see how much quicker it is but the way I have it set up there isn't much room inside to do that. Here is my buddy RekRC and he hit 36 with his SA (the ESC is probably a little less restrictive as it is made for 3s (and he ran a 2,200 mAh LIPO) while mine really isn't happy running 3s. th-cam.com/video/-0Slp_74Y_w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=FObHoMqXV1aGgVmp&t=111
Great video buddy
Great job sir 👏
Thank you!
Solid runs, Brian! I have ran my car so far out, I can barely see the lights with that Dumbo radio. It's outstanding performance for the money, but I'd like to get a Radiolink at some point. Maybe the benefit in mph was from the pavement heating the batteries up for you? Just a guess.. thanks for putting in the work! Always learning something new
THank you! I would love a Randiolink setup too! Maybe one day but it is hard to justify when the Dumbo offers some pretty good range! I prewarm my LIPOs before I do speedruns (almost always). Today it wasn't much of a concern but I try to be quick about getting my runs underway so that they do not have time to cool. I feel it gives me the best performance possible and more consistent results. But yeah, your logic makes a lot of sense to me!
@@BriansRCStuff Right, right.. I forgot you had the heater pack 👍 glad you're enjoying that motor and ESC combo! Runs hot, but not bad performance for the money
The Brakes are terrible. is there a way to adjust them?
Are you saying they are too strong? Remember how I problem with it and it was stock but when I modified it, they were definitely too strong because I was running a more powerful ESC but then I just adjusted it. I have not personally tried it, but… I hear a surpass hobby program and card works on the ESC. I would confirm for you, but my truck is broken and has a different set up right now..

@@BriansRCStuff They are very weak. when I press the brake/reverse in forward motion the vehicle beeps and just keeps moving forward like nothing was applied.
@@maxforce that doesn’t sound normal. Mine didn’t do that.
@@BriansRCStuff ive seen another youtuber complain about it.
You almost have the gearing 1 to 1 by the looks of that huge pinion. Yeah you're gonna have a heating issue regardless.
No heating issues going 1 or 2 speedruns at a time. Clowning around with speedrun gears quickly = overheating issues.
Why didn't you take a peek inside the difs
Because I was lazy and / or didn’t think of it at the time but wish I had.

Not a bad top speed considering all that's working against you. It looks like the tires are ballooning too much. I'd say you reached the limits of that truck. Great for the money, but limited. Good thing is, they don't need much above stock like you said!
Thanks for checking it out. Yeah, it is fun to push it but at the end of the day, it is pretty capable stock and fun too for what it is.

It is… and thank you!
I just got this same truck the 16890A last week and it came with two 1050 mah lithium ion batteries not lipo batteries !! Do you have a link to the heat shrink for the motor ??
Interesting..... I honestly don't know how big of a performance reduction there would be. The LIPOs that came with mine were pretty low end. You don't have a way to measure the speed do you? I am curious how fast yours is. If you care about the performance, you may want to pick up some higher end 2s LIPOs or possibly even try a 3s (it worked pretty well for me but some folks have had issues trying to run their 16890A on 3s with the ESC shutting down violently.
@@BriansRCStuff I'm new to hobby grade trucks and the lipo batteries worry me ! I've had guys tell me about them catching fire ! With the batteries that came with my truck I'm getting 26 mph
@@mary0224 well, 26 mph is better than what I was getting with my LIPOs. Off the top of my head, I think I was getting 23 to 24 mph so it seems they are working well! There is some risk to LIPOs (mainly if you overcharge them) so if you are happy with the performance you are getting, it seems like the batteries that came with it are perfect!
