Sailing gently to Isles of Scilly
#yachts, #cruising, #dolphins,#marine life, #sailing, #isles of Scilly, #motor sailing, Being in the middle of a feeding frenzy allows us film gannets diving and dolphins hunting in the Celtic sea. A serious zoom lens camera is SO on my wish list. Light winds force us to travel gently to the Isles of Scilly. It takes us four hours longer than normal to get there even though we motored most of the way from Ireland.

I don't think your reef lines are rigged correctly. They can't give you any leech tension the way you have them. Your leech must be flapping like mad in any blow. It shouldn't be tied to the cringe but simply run through it and down to and tied around the boom to a point directly below the reef point. Now when you tighten the reef the new clew will be both out hauled and down hauled, tightening the new foot and leech equally. This means you can flatten sail shape in a blow. Now, because you have downhaul your vang (and traveller if you have one) will actually have an effect on controlling the sail twist (not to mention reducing leech flap) that's limiting your speed through water. Sorry if I'm wrong. I hope this helps.

We tie our sailbag to the outhaul's thimble and that stops it moving forward. Your boat is looking great and fantastic to see you both out on the water. It was a long off-season for everyone.

Ooh that’s a thought ❤ I just planned stitching across the back so that the end of boom track slug can’t shimmy behind the bag in the track. Our other upgrade to the sailbag backfires too. The new lazy jack loops were stitched across the pocket for the tension bars. Bad enough we were charged huge money for new zipper and 3 loops by the guy in the midlands without finding the job was budgied up

Thanks for the tip. I’ll look at the possibility of doing that instead. Might have to put a loop on as a tie on point

@@johnosullivan9650 - it never ceases to amaze me that some people never check their work. I know that when I stitch things I sometimes sew more bits together than I intend (that is why I get Gaynor to do all the sewing aboard). The canvas work does look good though and the boat looks very smart.

@beverleyportlock9680 sabre sails in Swansea did our sprayhood which we love. We didn’t think we had to double check our stackpack when we got it done by someone in the business 🤯

Maybe I should have said “the force is strong in this one “ considering the weekend that was in it 😂

So fantastic to finally get out of the marina after 10 months confined to port by bad weather, work and plenty of upgrades to the boat.
