Long-billed Dowitcher (Limnodromus scolopaceus), Turf Hotel, River Exe, Devon. Another American!
This video won't win any prizes - it was a chilly, grey, misty day on the river and the bird was some distance away...... Yet another North American bird over here. This long staying Long-billed Dowitcher has been seen at Dawlish Warren, Exmouth and Topsham so it's a bit like a human tourist visiting all the hotspots (!). Or maybe its just going where the food is.

These are in non-breeding (autumn / winter plumage). They are diving waterbirds, feeding on small fish and aquatic invertebrates. The little grebe or 'dabchick', as it is sometimes known, is the UK's smallest grebe, about half the size of a moorhen.

A common bird of prey in Devon but nonetheless one I like seeing. Buzzards are opportunistic predators and can take a wide variety of prey. Small rodents such as voles and mice are commonly eaten, but they can also take prey as large as rabbits or as small as earthworms. They will also scavenge on road kill. This flexible diet allows the buzzard to survive in a variety of habitats. #Birds #Bird...

A north American male (drake) Ring-necked Duck ended up on the Big Dam of Taylor PArk, St Helens. Always nice to see the returning Brent Goose at the start of winter. The Dark-bellied subspecies make the vast majority of the birds with occasional Pale-bellied (Branta bernicla hrota) amongst them.
