I thoroughly enjoy fishing. It gets me out in nature while working on a craft without destroying my calendar in order to participate.
Here you'll find videos of my fishing adventures where I will fish for various species of trout, some panfish, and a dash of Bass, Crappie, and whatever else I can hook.
You'll see spinner reels initially, with Tenkara fly fishing making an appearance as I learn the style from scratch.

When There's No Trout, Part 6
Location: McDevitt Pond, Boise, Idaho
Bait: Live Worms
Rig: Weighted Float with Live Worms on Telescopic Rods & Pfleuger Spinning Reels.
Species: Panfish & Bass
I went to the local pond nearest my home to see if there were any holdover trout from the summer. Since Idaho Fish & Game doesn't stock the ponds during summer, it isn't easy to catch any trout. Most ponds are depleted from fishing and from predators like Cormorants and Ospreys. When that happens, you move on to catching panfish and, hopefully, a bass or two.
Thanks for joining me on my fishing adventures. I hope to see you again next week.

Enjoyed the video bud. Also just subscribed to the channel. Keep up the good work and tight lines bud.
Thank you for watching and subscribing. You have a great channel. Subbed.
@@WanderingIdahoanFishing I appreciate the kind words. Thank you
Now take that little Bluegill and put it on a big 00 hook with a bobber set up about 16 to 18 inches. Bass love ‘‘em and that one is the perfect size. Just make sure it’s legal to fish with bluegill or Brim in your state. Holding grips and ripping lips brother happy fishing
Next time I go for some of these little guys I'll hang on to a few to try in the Snake River. Thanks for watching and for the suggestion.
Maybe it’s just where I live but that’s microscopic. That’s the smallest I usally catch average bluegill for me is like 6-7 inches
Yes sir, it is tiny. They don't get much tinier. Sometimes, when the fish aren't biting, you'll take what you can get when you can get it. Thanks for watching.
Pflueger Presidential reel?
Yes! I've tried a lot of reels and these just work for me. I have 5 of them and they are workhorses for the price. Do you use them? Thanks for watching.
@@WanderingIdahoanFishing I love mine. I don’t have the presidential but have been thinking about it. I got my grandpa a really nice Saint croix with the presidential reel. He loves it. I use one of the all white Walmart pfluegers, my favorite reel I’ve ever owned aside from Mach Smash baitcasters. My buddy has one, my grandpa has one, my other grandpa has one, and my grandma has one, all the same brand and 3000 series😂😂smoothest reel I’ve ever owned
@@creeksquad228 They should be paying your family as a sponsor, my goodness. That is awesome. They are amazing. I've been eyeing the white version for my ice fishing rod. Might have to do it now. :)
@@WanderingIdahoanFishing I would highly recommend it! I wish. I caught my first smallmouth the other day, 6 pounder out of Northern Michigan. Caught it on my saintcroix rod with my white pflueger, coulda had a bad ass sponsorship photo 😂😂
@@creeksquad228 That's a nice fish! Hard to find smallys that size over here. We mostly deal in rainbow trout and cutthroats. We have some bass in the Snake River, but it's more of a trek to get there to fish.
Hi TJ hope you are well! I checked on the channel and saw that you are at mcdevitt! That's one of my favorite ponds along with fuller to fish at. The trout here are kinda funny I like the challenge. Caught one nice trout right after it was stocked and it tasted very good.
That pond can be a challenge. They stocked it with some really nice trout recently and you hooked one. That's awesome! If you see me arrive, come say hi. Good luck on your next fishing adventure. Thanks for watching.
You should try learning to fly fish
It has crossed my mind. Perhaps I will at some point but there are a few things that are prohibitive at the moment. Thanks for watching. Any good TH-cam channels you'd recommend to learn more about fly fishing?
@@WanderingIdahoanFishing well I just barely started fly fishing and a channel called flyfish Dan has help me a lot 😁
@@Vindland2829 Thank you. Best of luck on your fly fishing adventure.
Niceim proud
Thanks for watching.
I am a largemouth bass fisherman, but sometimes it's just good fun to take the light tackle and catch a bunch of little bluegill...kinda relaxing really
It really is. It reminds me of fishing as a kid. So many good memories, it just means something more than you'd expect. Thanks for watching.
Nice bass.
Thanks for watching. It's a rainbow trout, but if you watch my next series I do catch a couple small bass (spoiler alert). I appreciate you watching. Subscribe for more.
Deffinetly a pretty lil guy
Yeah, I love catching rainbows because they are so gorgeous. Thanks for watching.
@@WanderingIdahoanFishing ofc man
This is incredibly lame
Thanks for the feedback.
Why r u wearing gloves?
Two reasons: It protects the fish from the oils on my hands (you can dip bare hands in the water before handling the trout as well), and it saves me from having to scrub several layers of skin off after every fishing trip to get rid of that "fishy smell" that my wife isn't a fan of. Thanks for watching.
😂 haha
Thanks for watching.
this really pisses me off
?
Is this a game or real life?
I wonder that all the time I get to hit the water for fish. Thanks for watching.
@@WanderingIdahoanFishing g
Why are you wareing rubber gloves you afraid of catching covid from the fish. That was a good take That was a good eat Why don't people just say that was a good bite
Hahaha, nah. It does protect the fish some by preventing contact with the oils in human skin. Also my wife is not a fan of the fishy smell and the gloves save me from having to scrub off layers of skin after every fishing trip. Win/win/win. Thanks for watching. Not huge trout but big enough to be fun on that ultralight rig.
@@WanderingIdahoanFishing hahaha she otta be used to that smell lmfao
@@MichaelTravis-x2d She picks up smells that I am completely ignorant of. It is like a superpower with her. I'd rather do what I can to help her than expect her to just deal. Just my thing. :)
Beautiful colors
They were gorgeous in morning light. Thanks for watching.
That's a cool spot. Never seems crowded
There was no one the whole morning. In the evening it can get busy. I showed up 2 hours before sunset and was alone initially, but an hour later I had about 12 other people around me.
Pretty fish. Nice with the gloves.
I appreciate it. The sunset really made the colors pop on that fish. Thanks for watching.
Awesome stuff! Also I always love the sound of rice birds in the background when fishing
Thanks! The number of red wing black birds at this pond was a little crazy. They are common around every pond but they were everywhere at this one.
Love the clip tj! 😄
Thanks for watching! I appreciate it.
Looks like a great spot!
It truly is. Thanks for watching.
I love seeing the bite on that rod. Another awesome video brother.
For a telescopic rod it really is a good little ultralight. Thanks for watching.
Trout fishing with jigs! I love it!
Thanks for watching. I love catching trout on jigs and an ultralight rig. Makes it an absolute blast to land them.
That's cool! Where you at TJ?
Browns Pond in McCall. Great little pond that is always a lot of fun to fish. I have always hit double digits on this pond.
That fish has some amazing colors on it.
Those sunfish species are gorgeous. I wish there were more of them around these parts. Thanks for watching. Liking your channel. Good luck out there.
I finally caught a black crappie at fuller park recently! 😁There's also some really nice pumpkinseed there too. I love fuller now. Plus its super clean with that nice cool canal water from the river flowing in. When I was there I saw a man fly fishing catch a nice largemouth. Probably about 14 inches if i had to guess. I also wonder if there are any catfish at Fuller.
Awesome! I plan on going back to catch some of the smaller panfish with my tenkara rod. I would love to get a bass out of there too, but that may be a goal for next year. Glad you were able to get that crappie. Love it!
I see crappie, i click lol. I think I'm now hooked on fishing for them.
Crappie are a super fun fish to hook into. They can be a little hard to find in my neck of the woods, but I am definitely going to target them more often when I can.
What in the bubbling hell!?
Air pumps to keep the oxygen levels of these local ponds stable. Helpful to prevent fish kills, but they can be a snag magnet.
Great video, Glad you were able to catch a tiger, Those things are crazy looking!!!
That is for sure. Fun catch but the bigger trout are preferred.

🥇
Awesome video! I have to try fuller park again. I want to add crappie to my species list
Thanks for watching. Worms on a float was a winning combo for me. Tried some other options first but the worms really did the trick. I hope you can hook into some of those bigger ones.
That is insane that you caught that many crappie out of a pond!!! Great video, I will have to try worms next time I fish there!!!
Thanks! It was a fun day for sure. I have to try for bass on my next trip there. I hear there are some good sized ones.
Funny went there to catch crappie and didnt get any. I got 3 bass and a bunch of bluegill though. 😅 Maybe we should switch places.@@WanderingIdahoanFishing
@@brox2098 I will be going there again soon to try for bass. I am happy to switch luck with you for our next trips. :)
Wearing gloves is crazy
Is it? Subscribe for more crazy.
Take offf gloves
Thanks for watching. I'm curious why you think I need to?
I didn't know there were crappie in fuller. Have to try it out sometime.
You definitely should. They are pretty good size and fun to hook into.
Why you wearing gloves? Cop? Killer? Rapis
Thanks for watching and for the question. It is a solution I adopted for two reasons. My wife is sensitive to pond water and fish smells, and I don't like scrubbing layers of skin off my hands after every fishing trip. This solved both issues. I have no criminal record but plead the 5th on any cop questions. :P
In ponds like these where there’s an abundance of turtles, the best thing to do is get rid of em
Not sure about turtles, but they might be in this pond. Found a baby snapping turtle near a pond by my house, and they are not native to Idaho. It was donated to a local reptile rescue place. Most likely it was a sneaky bluegill or crappie that managed to grab a bit of the worm without getting the hook and then managed to tear off the rest of the worm when it dove back to the bottom.
What part of Idaho are you in? I am up in the panhandle!! I love our fishing we have in this beautiful state!
Hello fellow Idahoan. Thanks for watching. I'm in the southwest, Boise area. I was born and raised here in Idaho and feel so blessed to live in this beautiful state, and not just for the fishing. If you're interested in seeing interesting parts of Idaho I have my Adventures channel here on TH-cam, Wandering Idahoan Adventures. You live in a beautiful area. We hope to be adventuring in that area more in the near future.
Who the heck wears gloves to fish???
I do. My wife is sensitive to fish and pond water smell and I got tired of scrubbing layers of skin off my hands after every fishing trip. Not sure why it matters, but thanks for watching and asking the question. :)
What is your setup man? It’s nice!
@@imcross7738 Thanks! None of it is super spendy. The rods are Plussino telescopic rods, which makes them easy to store. I like the Pflueger President spinning reels (I have the 35B on those rods and a 20X on my ultralight setup). My line is the KastKing Superpower braided fishing line, yellow, 10lb with a 2-3 foot 8 or 10lb leader. Can get one whole rig complete for about $100 on Amazon. The reel is a splurge, though, and you can easily do just as well with a cheaper reel. For my local ponds, the drop shot rig tends to work the best for me, but I fish mostly in the off-season in those areas. Thanks for watching and for the question.
Great video TJ, Glad you are having luck at mcdevitt, Can't wait to see part 2!!!
Thank you! That pond has not been getting much love from F&G, and the cormorants are still feeding there in large numbers, so it has been difficult.
@@WanderingIdahoanFishing That’s a bummer, it used to be a great place to fish!
@@thetroutslayer It was. Hopefully will be again...someday.
Great video TJ, Can't believe you caught a palomino that big!!! That rainbow at the end was big too!!!
That was a good day. Thanks for the support. I'll see you out there again soon.
I cant watch someone fish with nitrile gloves on just hilarious 😂
Okay. Have a blessed day.
and you caught a rare and killed a rare all in one moment. good work.
How did I kill it when I released all of these fish? Thanks for commenting.
They not rare a fish since the Wildlife Depts fish Biologists can produced those fish at any time since they already have!! I think it's a way to get more people fishing!!
Yes, they can breed them. By definition rare means: "(of a thing) not found in large numbers and consequently of interest or value." Even though they can create more, they don't, which makes it rare by definition. Yes, it gets more people fishing. Both can be true, and I don't have an issue with any of it. Thanks for commenting.
I remember you telling me about those 3 palominos, Great video!!!
Thanks for watching. Hoping to try getting some different species soon with the warmer weather.
Those are some beautiful Palomino's can't wait to see part 2, They are still biting at kleiner, caught one the other day!!!
Thank you! I'm so surprised the palominos are still around but I caught one just the other day there too. McDevitt wasn't even biting today, still. *sigh
Congrats, Love the videos!!!
Thanks so much!! Keep slaying my friend!
Why are you wearing latex gloves?😂
Two reasons really. 1) My wife hates the smell of fish, so it saves me from having to scrub off a few layers of flesh on my hands after every fishing trip. 2) It offers warmth in the winter without having to wear thick gloves that limit mobility and sensitivity to the bite and in the warmer months it provides better grip than otherwise. Love it or hate it, it works for me.
Congrats man 🎉 keep them vids comin 🫡
Thank you. New species dropping Saturday morning.
