We're inviting public feedback on guidelines for electricity distribution companies when operating a key powerline safety device that protects the community. Rapid earth fault current limiters (REFCLs) act like a large safety switch by quickly detecting earth faults on powerlines and reducing the energy flowing through them. They help to prevent bushfires, especially when powerlines fall, or tr...

Have your heater serviced, but replace it with an electric split system as soon as you can!
I had a new Gas connection installed in a new build in April 2023 Does the new or old standard apply for emergency shut off valves? Builder says old standard as building permit was issued in Mid 2022. I thought it would go by the install date?
Who Remembers The Ad Where The Crane Hits The Powerlines?
Who could forget the office of the chief electrical inspector commercials, damn think gave me nightmares and it turns out that nothing actually showy happens when you hit a line but don't play with high voltage

Disgraceful.. bureaucrats creating more cost for some else to benefit from. Unions are corrupt and disgusting and should keep out of it

Fire who ever made this PSA. Fire who ever approved this PSA. Fire anyone who thought this PSA was a good idea! Total waste of public resources! Smarmy condescending slimebag! It has convinced me to rewire my own house because, F this POS. No way am I going near a licensed electrician after this.
I will do my own electrical work. I will not be sad if I die
Very dumb way to die
Do all the components fitted on a pressure proving system have to be approved, by aga or another test body?
I geas you can buy a differential automatic fuses from our MORDOR.
Anyone remember the ad where a husband climbs into the ceiling to do some work himself, there's a brief flash in the dark, closeup of the RCD tripping, then a shot of the wife shouting frantically up into the dark manhole? I really want to see it again, it's stuck in my head since a kid
What About The Look Up And Live Ad With The Crane Hitting The Powerlines?
When does this standard come into place? It doesn't appear available for purchase as yet.
Hi Bobbie. Thanks for your question. These new regs are expected to be published anytime now. This is not within our control - it is a process overseen by Standards Australia. We'll publish a notification on our website and to our Gasfitter stakeholders when these regs are published. Cheers, ESV.
Sorry but to me this is a disgrace, you are making licensed electricians who have never done anything wrong prove they are still worthy of holding a license, what ever happened to "you are innocent until proven guilty" We are having to prove we are capable with out ever doing to suggest we aren't capable And to make it worse you involve everyone else except the electricians in this new scheme, you speak to peak bodies (who ever they are) but not to the actual electricians We had a license for life as long as we renewed it on time, this has changed with zero consultation with electricians It's a disgrace
What the hell has happened to Victoria in the last ten years that I've been gone? Has the flood of immigrants dropped the standard of electricians? Why is this necessary? Or is it just another stinkin cash grab? Last I checked there's still only 3 wires, 5 if you have your big boy pants on..
Here's how it works Paul... when it comes to the electrical industry in the Socialist Republic of Victoria these are the main stakeholders: 1. State Labor Government (Andrews and D'Ambrosio) 2. ETU 3. WorkSafe (but they are only any good when the Inspectors follow instructions... which they do because in many cases they are ex union organisers) 4, ESV (note, the ETU used to hate ESV but now they love them because it is riddled with ex WorkSafe senior managers) 5. The workers a distant last Note this publicly funded video has given free time to Troy Gray to allow him to make the point that the ETU is the biggest player in this caper Before the last election they leaned on Andrews and D'Ambrosio to implement this program and it is likely that the ETU is a big winner as a training provider (Future Energy Skills) to deliver the CPD program... according to the governments own webpage they have invested $75m of taxpayers money into this www.premier.vic.gov.au/upskilling-bright-sparks-electrical-workforce Everything in Victoria is designed to ultimately take money from a certain sector of the public and feed it to a select few stakeholders But at the end of the day, they are all socialists... and like all socialists, they are geniuses until they run out of other peoples money... and interest rates alone will ensure that day isn't too far away But don't worry, it isn't all bad, in a few years you will be able to catch a train from Cheltenham to Box Hill on the GWE (great white elephant) line
Do you have a list or more information of the specific types of valves/regs required for both Class 1a and building-specific requirements?, Even an example of a brand and model numbers?
Hi Andrew, ESV is an independent regulator and can’t provide specific makes/models as this may be seen to be favouring or recommending a product. The new requirements will allow for several different controls to be installed to provide isolation for Class1a buildings with piping volume less than 30L; excess flow valves, UPSOs or automatic valves (solenoids) where they can be connected to smoke alarm or other fire systems.
Great piece of information, I would like something in the AS5601 to be reworded as there is a conflict, if you go to 9.37 second on your slide the issues is that the valves are install wrong, if you go to AS5601:2013 amd 4 4.8.2 (c) valves need to be installed fall to off but if you read AS5601:2013 amd4 4.8.2 (b) this tell you a different way, Thanks Dave.
Hi David, Thanks for watching our video and your comment. Our technical team is keen to clarify your question. Wondering if you can reach out directly to us via this email address: webmaster@energysafe.vic.gov.au Many thanks Anitra
Can't view the standard even though I downloaded it. Screw DRM!
Why do standards have DRM installed by default? This doesn't work on Linux and should be rectified immediately, how am I a Linux user unable to view downloaded standards???? The only option is to use a security risk adobe application that's never been updated in several years. This concerns me how I teach. Please rectify it.
HI Trev Unfortunately ESV does not have control or management over the publication of Standards. You will need to raise your concerns with the organisation through which you tried to purchase the Standard. Sorry we can't help with this one. Anitra
Why the hell isn’t there a phone app to be able to view these amendments/new standards alongside the actual regulations. Like just for the search functionality alone?
He has very nice feet. Forget about his heater, I'll massage them to keep them warm!
I can see Rebekah
Why am i watching this
Great presentation 👌
I can do whatever I want to my gas heater, just because someone has a license doesn’t make someone without bad at the job.
FIRST!
Its great when people die though
the answer is very simple people NEVER WORK LIVE with the grid going unless you wanna get fried or worse have serious injuries
Please add closed captions to this video. It's so important to get this message out to everyone.

Better safe than sorry i say
Always check flues/chimneys for leaks also, especially if passing through in roof space as you could leak CO into a void. Todays kitchen range hoods can be of very high airflow extraction performance, at times unnecessarily high thus can result in a negative pressure environment being created. I guess at times the trade off is more and more people are opting for refrigerated AC systems and not gas heating, but still older homes should consult with a professional if considering.
