MOUNT KILIMANJARO TREK FEB 2024-6 DAYS MACHAME ROUTE - The incredible journey to the roof of Africa!
Kilimanjaro, the world's tallest free standing mountain, one of the seven summits and Africa's highest point. Towering over the plains of East Africa, this huge beauty keeps attracting climbers from all over the world. I returned to this mountain, this time taking on the Machame route, also known as the Whiskey route. This video provides a detailed documentation of our experience during our 6 day climb. I hope you get to enjoy it. Feel free to leave a comment on what you think about the video or the climb itself. Thank you...

I was there at the Uhuru Peak on 15. feb 1989. There were only 80 climbers at the easiest "Whisky route" on that day...so no tent villages. We slept in cosy huts. I believe they are still there. And above all; the whole peak was covered with snow and ice. I have kept in my mind the swahili words: POLE POLE. It is good for your life in many occasions.

Wow! 1989 is a long time ago! Congratulations. The huts are now on the Marangu (Cocacola) route, at the Whiskey route you just camp in tents. The mountain nowadays gets so many visitors, even on the Marangu route you still find people camping as the huts are usually full on most times. Snow and ice have reduced significantly over the years, the mountain has changed a lot... Thanks for taking the journey again on this video..

Also which section of this route makes it seem harder than the other routes? Is it the section from met station to Mackinders or from Mackinders to point Lenana? The orphans are never released into the wild this is not true. At Voi or Ithumba the orphans will meet with and hopefully integrate into wild herds. This can take several years. At Umani Springs disabled elephants will more likely live out their lives. It is not unusual for orphans to join wild herds and visit Voi or Ithumba with their wild born babies. Equally true wild elephants have been known to seek medical attention at the reintegration centers, The commitment to the orphans is for their lifetime. The orphans leave the integration centers at their choice and should they return will be welcomed back. But the one thing that never happens is the orphans are NEVER released back to the wild. The orphans leave by choice by joining with wild herds or herds of previous orphans who choose to live free.

If you go by the statistics on world elephant population, the pace in which they have decreased is extremely worrying... I hope we can change our attitude and behaviour.. Thank you for your comment..

@@kiarieexploreske you're welcome. I read yesterday that one third of the world's trees are endangered . You will notice there is nothing but silence when it comes to human overpopulation . I'm sorry to say , I think it is too late . As far as the poor elephants and rhinos go , they don't have much of a chance .

It is not that hard... Only that it is shorter so steeper, but also very scenic... Welcome again and thanks for the feedback...

I remember hearing those two names being mentioned when the orphans came out... You are a hero for adopting those lovely creatures. Thank you for passing by the channel, and for watching... Blessings
