If anybody ever comes across this video and wonders if there's more of it, there is-- the whole musical was recorded and unreleased in this quality! E-mail me at legotronn2 at gmail, if you're interested!
he is just so amazing. i can't get over how wonderful he. his voice makes me weak and breathless. he's funny, smart and yet really down-to-earth...this lyrics are brilliant, too. im SO glad i saw jason robert brown perfrom in nyc live in 2009. great video. i just love it.
@lws6a001 I've only ever seen clips of him as Fiyero and never seen him in any show and now seeing him in this case you can tell he deserved his Tony. This guy can do anything and his range of acting and singing is just..amazing!
I do think "Shiksa Goddess" has a catchier melody, but "I Could Be in Love With Someone Like You" does a better job at establishing what Jamie does for a living and the extent of his attraction to Cathy as he's willing to follow Cathy's lifestyle and traditions so they can date. In "Shiksa Goddess", all of his praising and willingness to be with her stem from the fact that she's not Jewish, therefore different from the other girls he dated.
Its so wierd that so many great actors have played the role of Emcee: Adam Pascal, Neil Patrick Harris, Norbert Leo Butz, Raul Esparza, and Joel Grey. I bet there are more too
I went to the same summer camp that Jason Robert Brown went to years and years before I did - one time he came and played a little concert and he sang thins song, it was so cool. Does anybody know if there are any recordings of NLB singing this available? I love Shiksa Goddess, but this is a wonderful song.
I think JRB was right to replace this song with "Shiksa Goddess" (even if the decision was made for him by some lawyers). I think "Shiksa Goddess" does a better job of: a) establishing Jamie's character; b) contrasting with Kathy, who's just sung "Still Hurting."
I see where you are coming from, but I argue that a) it establishes Jamie's wants and goals as a writer while talking about how wonderful he thinks Cathy is and how much he will do to be with her. Whereas with "Shiksa Goddess", there is only one line uttered that reveals his occupation as a writer and he's praising her and willing to date her because she is not Jewish like his past girlfriends. One of the lines is literally "...just as long as you're not from Hebrew school". b) it ties in better with Nobody Needs to Know, specifically with the final verse "And since I have to be in love with someone, since I need to be in love with someone, maybe I could be in love with someone like you" being nearly identical in lyrics, melody, and diction with the final verse in this song. c) it still contrasts with Cathy's "Still Hurting" because it is an upbeat number set in the beginning of the relationship.
OMG!!! If i loved norbert before, I can't even begin to describe how much i love him now! After I saw Alan Cumming's version i didn't think it could get any better, but i was most definitely proved worng! I still adore Alan, but Norbert totally pwned him!! AND HES SO SMEXY!!!!!!
JRB was sued by his ex-wife over the show resembling their marriage/divorce too closely, so he removed all references to her Irish heritage from the show.
Theresa O'Neill, Jason Robert Brown's ex-wife, sued him for this because the song and the show as a whole was too close in representing their relationship, breaking the non-disparagement and non-disclosure agreement they had. As part of the legal settlement, he removed all references to Cathy being Irish Catholic and this song, which is filled with Irish references and jokes, was cut and replaced with "Shiksa Goddess".
Did something happen to the sound?
Just the literal best.
What happened to the audio 😊

My college is doing this show and I’m playing Freddy! So excited!
I love how he kept almost accidentally swearing 😂 x
seria bom o espetáculo completo ok thank you abs antonio sergio brazil rio de janeiro
I wonder if he still wants to be like Trump lol
Too soon
I found Norbert to be a nice man and a great actor.
Love me some Norbert!
Having played the part censored before, I understand the frustration with the "nice crap" line lol
"I wanna be like Trump", not anymore.
A con man so good at his job that he becomes President of the United States? Sounds like exactly what Freddie would want :P
Norbert is king, but man... this song is cheesy even FOR a musical.
Does anyone know if there's a bootleg of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels around?
Good god I'm obsessed with him.
My classmates made a parody of the song once. They titled it "Great Big Douche".
i was sooo in love with this song!
such a great musical

"Oh My God The Whole Thing Turns!!!"

I want some really c- ...nice crap! Hahah :)
my name is nobert
he sounds like he's 20 in this
it's like he's doing a mucical comedy act
lol that's funny
Brilliant! Love this guy!
Did John Lithgow muck his lines up at the beginning?
@lws6a001 I've only ever seen clips of him as Fiyero and never seen him in any show and now seeing him in this case you can tell he deserved his Tony. This guy can do anything and his range of acting and singing is just..amazing!
@Elfgirl31192 What exactly do you mean? Haven't seen John Stamos yet.
"she was really great, it was all MY fault, i just got upset cuz she slept with my brother..." i luv him so much!!!! <3
That was outstanding, he is the best
lol Fiyero is a good dancer =)
What year was this in? His body looks GOOD. lol
great big stuff!
I lol'd at John Lithgow
The one good thing about this song is it bookends so well with Nobody Needs To Know. Shiksa is, other than that, a better open for Jamie.

yeah lws, too bad idina blows :P
Alan Cumming too. Got anymore?
Its so wierd that so many great actors have played the role of Emcee: Adam Pascal, Neil Patrick Harris, Norbert Leo Butz, Raul Esparza, and Joel Grey. I bet there are more too
since this song got cut from the show, where and how is he performing this?
This was from the Chicago run before the song was cut
he's really very good. Emcee with blonde hair is just great.
I don't think so - Shiksa Goddess is an epically great song too, in my opinion.
I went to the same summer camp that Jason Robert Brown went to years and years before I did - one time he came and played a little concert and he sang thins song, it was so cool. I LOVE NORBERT LEO BUTZ!

I just can't believe this was on NBC.
JRB was sued by his ex-wife over the show resembling their marriage/divorce too closely, so he removed all references to her Irish heritage from the show.
does anyone know why this was taken out and replaced with Shiksa Goddess cause this song is great

This is an amazing performance! I love John Lithgow and Norbert Leo Butz!
