Kirt Voreis - Desert Skatepark
Kirt Voreis explores the skatepark like terrain of the Zion area on his mountain bike, with the help of the new SDG Tellis Adjustable Lever.
This is a slightly longer version of the video that I created for SDG to use for social media. The short one is great, but I prefer this longer version with more riding from Kirt.

How and Why you can use the Elinchrom Skyport Pro Transmitter to trigger other brands of flash at 1/1000 and faster. At the end of last year I discovered that I can use my Elinchrom Skyport Pro and the Elinchrom Skyport Receivers to trigger my Godox AD200Pro flashes along with my Elinchrom ELB 400 at sync speeds above 1/250. Way above. No problem shooting at 1/1600 as long as I dial in the dela...

Whats in my Bag - Evoc Stage Capture 16
มุมมอง 4.3K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Probably my most used camera bag, the EVOC Stage Capture 16 is the bag that I bring on any ride where I think I might want to take a photo. Whether it's a purposeful scouting ride, a random ride with friends, or a small backcountry epic in the summer, this bag is the perfect size. For most rides I carry a spare tube, CO2's and a multi tool on my bike, so the camera bag only needs to carry my ca...
Switching to Flashpoint, and Hi-Sync with Elinchrom and Flashpoint/Godox together, a quick update.

It's been a busy couple of months, here's a quick update on what I've been working on. I recently decided to switch from Godox to Flashpoint flashes, same system just rebranded and sold through Adorama in the US. I also figured out that I can use Elinchrom's Hi-Sync with my ELB 400 and the Flashpoint Evolv 200 Pro lights together. Cross brand High Speed Sync, it works! More details to come in a...

Hello Ian, I have a quick question: how do I connect my elinchrom Transmitter Pro and Transmitter Plus receiver? If you could reply in comments or make a video it would be super helpful. Thanks
:) love the flashbacks!
thanks Ian!
What a trip down memory lane! Thanks for this Ian!
Lots more to come! Stoked to go through it all and be able to share!
I was involved, with Grouse operations, Gestev, Chris Donohue and others, in getting the dirt jumps organized at the 2001 World Cup, and then running and MCing the shows that were scheduled, along with Norco trials demos with Ryan Leech. The whole thing was complex and logistically stressful. Darryl Steane got hurt at the beginning; the jumps were a bit downhill so it was hard to judge speed, and Chris had some other commitments that weekend so couldn't be there for all of them. Darren Butler ended up doing a ton of riding, and we got Timo Pritzel in for quite a bit of it. We also couldn't practice at times as they didn't want to have the possibility of an incident during a race that would stretch their first responders too thin. The whole thing was a microcosm of the Grouse World Cup experience in being hard to pull off, which is in part why it came to an end after 2003. I remember when Ian's photo of Chris Donohue appeared thinking to myself that it was the best thing that came out the project. I'm not sure if there were shows per se in 2002 or if a jump got built specifically for photos, but I kind of think it was the latter.
Wow, awesome to hear your perspective and memories of this! I remember Darryl was injured, and I have photos of Chris, Preston, Sato and Andrew Arnold riding the jumps, also one of John Cowan and a couple of someone flipping one of the jumps. Someone wearing a Felt jersey, probably Timo. There was a bunch of complaining that year about the jumps, and I don't think Cowan and Timo hit them more than a couple of times. There was also the FLOW show that year, and that drew a huge crowd for every show. 2002 I believe Cowan helped build the jumps but the location was the same and they were still on the downhill slope. 2002 the only images I have are Berrecloth and Donahue really.
And the Penticton stuff, we definitely rode that log, like Barb said. Crazy little fall snowstorm came out of nowhere and dropped 20cms. I dropped the truck into a ditch on the retrieval and spent quite a bit of time hiking through snow that night because it was the pre cell phone era. At least I didn't go into the canyon!
I found a few black and white images of riding the log! I think one of you and one of Charles Mercier. Or perhaps that was a different day? Good memories!
Roderick! That was on my birthday. 29th maybe? We didn't film, just a dumb idea we tried. Got the cover of Mountain Biking mag with me and Evan Philips. And we almost missed the last ferry out because the trail was wrong on the maps I'd found and ended up being wayyyyy longer. Plus we had to sit in that weird climate controlled waiting room because of the pollution there. Good times. Send me that one eh?
Just found a whole bunch more photos from that trip! Beat Steiner came with us and filmed the snow riding from the heli, but I think he left with the heli when we got to the tree line. Such a rad trip! I remember the loam section was all time, but the road out at the bottom seemed to go on for ever. And an old friend of mine ended up being the captain of the ferry that day, total random surprise. I miss those trips! Will definitely send you a selection of images.
Thank you the memories Ian! Made my evening!
We did ride that log in Penticton (Peat Bog)❤
Yes! I found a few old B&W photos of it last night!
It was a Race Face ad I believe!
I think actually the catalog cover? Thanks for the reminder, I think I have it somewhere
your awesome ... thank you
Hi Ian can I ask you question, I have a two Neo 2’s. I’ve just shot a model at her home and I never feel the lighting is good. I’ve been thinking about investing ia Godox DP600 III because of the attachments you can attach to them. I own a EL Skyport. So question is would the EL Skyport work with the Godox DP600 III ? Thanks Adam
Hi Adam, Happy Holidays! The simple answer is no, the Elinchrom Skyport won't directly work with the Godox flash. If you want to use the Godox alongside the Neo lights with your Skyport transmitter you would also need to purchase an Elinchrom Receiver Plus and plug that into the Godox. That would allow the Skyport transmitter to trigger all your lights simultaneously. Does that help?
Very nerdy but I like it. Thanks. I have the older (up-down) Skyport stuff currently, but this is something to try in the future. I'm a cheapskate, but a HUGE fan of used Elinchrom gear.
I cant comprehend, for what people get snacks? I NEVER wanted to eat during the ride NEVER, only drink.
If you're going to ride for more than an hour, food of some sort for energy is fairly important. I call that snacks, but it's often what people would consider energy bars or similar. However if I'm going on a longer ride, say 3 or 4 hours, I definitely bring real food.
I just wish they made a newer on with nicer materials and the same back panel as on that one you've got
You're in luck! They've just updated the line of bags the past few months and there is now a new version of the 16 as well as a new 22 that I'll be posting about shortly. Very similar, just a bit bigger.
Thanks this video is awesome do you think you could do one about your cp 26l I've got the cp 18l as I don't have to much gear at the moment so its amazing
This was an awesome video, great shots too.
Hello, could you help me with some suggestions. I am looking to get the Godox AD 200pro or Canon 600 EX ii flash. Which would you recommend for outdoor? Thank you.
I think it depends on your personal needs more than anything else. The Godox is more powerful, and has the option of bare bulb flash if you use softboxes or other modifiers already. I think of it as a bridge between on camera speedlights, like the Canon 600 EXii, and larger studio style strobes. The Canon flash is very versatile and can mount on the hot shoe of your camera (if it's a Canon camera), and the AD200Pro can't do that, it needs to be mounted on a stand or a bracket. The Canon has a zoom head that will cover lenses from 14mm to 200mm, the Godox doesn't do that. I use aftermarket Fresnel lenses from MagMod to achieve a similar versatility with the AD200Pro. So I think it depends what you will use it for. Does this help?

@@IanHylandsPhotography i wanted off flash, but I dont know which one deliver the good colors?
Using a Nikon D850. For High Speed sync using the EL Skyport Pro, do I need to do any set up in the sky port after selecting the Auto FP in the Nikon Menu? My first foray into HSS...
I can’t speak specifically to Nikon at the moment as I don’t have one, however theoretically it shouldn’t be any different. Start with the AD200 on full power to get maximum flash duration, and play with the ODS offset if it’s not perfect. Then go from there. Please let me know how it works!
Thanks Johnny, just what I was looking for. Thanks to you I can now buy a Godox speed light with confidence for use with my sky port plus pro trigger and pro receiver. I only have to select which godox speedlight suites my needs. It’ll mainly be used in studio but not exclusively, I will need a powerful speedlight to freeze action too. Lighting ey, a real minefield, but fun and I love its challenges for the rewards it can bring to one’s photography. Thanks again, great video. 👏
Thank you! It’s definitely an adventure and equipment keeps changing almost monthly nowadays. The AD200 Pro is not quite a speed light, but the closest I’ve found to a do everything small light. And with the bulb head it works great in a soft box in the studio, or on location.
Hi, I wanted to ask you if it is true that the Elinchrom skyport transmitter plus hs can also control a Godox monolight and not necessarily an Elinchrom monolight, did I understand correctly from your tutorial? Thank you in advance.
Hi Giovanni, thank you for your question and I apologize for the delay. I bought a house recently and have spent very little time online. In answer to your question, the Elinchrom transmitter can’t “control” the Godox lights, but in combination with a Elinchrom receiver it can trigger them. So if you already have an Elinchrom set up and want to add another non-Elinchrom light this will work. Does that help?
this elinchrom receiver work for Godox ad200pro?
Hi, I used my Elinchrom Quadra lights in high speed mode along with my Godox AD200 Pro lights attached to Elinchrom Receivers and they worked well together. You need to adjust the output of the Godox lights manually (or with Godox transmitter) so no TTL, but you can use both together. Does that help?
this elinchrom receiver work for Godox ad200pro?
Sorry not sure how I missed this question. A little late now, but yes, the Elinchrom Receiver Plus will work with the Godox AD200Pro
Sir I have godox trigger and elinchrom rx4 light. So can i connect rx4 to godox receiver and control elinchrom rx4 light with godox trigger
You can trigger the RX4 light by attaching the Godox Reciever via the 3.5 mm cable. You won't be able to control the power lever with the Godox Transmitter however.
@@IanHylandsPhotography Can godox trigger make high speed snik Sutter speed 1/8000
Nice shirt great video. You use a glidecam? Like the look! Looks organic
Hi, sorry for the very late reply. I used a DJI Gimbal (I have a couple, not sure which one) thank you!
Great vid!
Thank you!
Great tests, those magnum reflectors that disappointed you are optimized for those strobes with a horseshoe shaped bulbs and are not made for the coilover style bulbs used in the AD200. If you ever get an AD400 or an AD600 the magnum reflector will magnify those bulbs 2x
I have an AD600 so I’ll have to test this one out and see the differences. Thank you!
Hello. Did your flash work quietly? I have such a micro-click inside the case every 5 seconds. Barely audible. I found a similar problem on TH-cam, where the guy was told by the godox representative that this is how capacitors are refilled in some models and that this is completely normal. For the author of the video with the problem, the flash has been working for 3 years now and nothing. How would it be okay if so, but the sale may be difficult.
I don’t think mine makes a click or a pop, but I haven’t listened that carefully.
wery interesting. well i have a canon r5 and 5d2 with godox flashpoint xplore 600 and a trigger xpro godox, when i use my old 5d2 i can shot in ttl and over hss easily like 1/500, no problrms at all, with my r5 , nothing works,, the flash became crazy. i think i flashes alwasis at full power.
Hi Dario! I don't shoot Canon but I did a quick search online and it seems to be a common problem. Most people with the problem say it is only when using TTL and HSS together with the R5 and the Godox XPro Trigger. There were some issues early on with Sony cameras and electronic shutter, I'm not sure if this effects the Canon R5 or not, but maybe try shooting with the electronic shutter turned off and see if that works? If it does please reply and let me know.
@@IanHylandsPhotography well I did some experiments today with the mode "electonjs first curtain" the only way if you shot at 1 320, I mean in hss plus ttl, is to set ttl at - 2.3 and the pics is quite acceptable. But you hate to fix it in post. But with this escamotage you can shot sports players that are in différent distance from flash.
Yo thanks for the vid. Question,,, With that EL SKYPORT, is that how your are getting away with crossing up brands of transmitter and flash? I have a good investment in Rotolight with an Elinchrom transmitter which I am really happy with for portraiture but just scooped up a great deal on a Flashpoint EXPLOR PRO600 to step into the realm of HSS TTL for outdoor sport shooting more. It would be nice to think I could avoid getting the flashpoint transmitter and my research has proven unsuccessful to tell how to mix brands. Thanks for your time.
I think it’s possible to go either way really. Which Elinchrom transmitter do you have, and do you have an Elinchrom receiver? The Flashpoint Transmitter will give you great control and TTL functionality with the Explor600 Pro, and they’re relatively cheap. The Elinchrom transmitter won’t give you TTL control, or any control of your Flashpoint light other than simple triggering via an Elinchrom receiver. Does that make sense? Do you have Elinchrom lights as well or just the transmitter?
@@IanHylandsPhotography The Rotolight has built in receiving for the Elinchrom so I have the same Transmitter you have in this vid. ELSP-HS... Yah "6 of 1, 1/2 dozen of another", The Flashpoint trigger is priced really reasonable so I will likely just invest in another bank of Flashpoint kit.
Great video and great pictures. Thank you!
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it!
Great review. I need that backpack 👍🏽👍🏽
Thanks!
I have the Elinchrom EL-Skyport Transmitter Plus HS for Sony. Is it compatible with the Godox V1 for Sony??
Not directly. You could use it to trigger the V1 via an Elinchrom EL Skyport receiver and a 2.5mm sync cable, and I'm pretty sure it will work with Hi-Sync this way, however I haven't personally tried the V1. The reason you would do this is so you could use your V1 with your Elinchrom lights and have them all trigger at the same time. You would have to manually adjust the V1 or use the Godox remote to adjust the power. Does that help?

When I shoot at 1/8000 then I see a lot of "bars" in my picture, in spanish I would say "barras / rayas" ... would you happen to know why it happens? I use the XPROc for Canon in a EOS R5 ... is there a way I can send you an email with a picture attached with my "issue" ?
This sounds strange, however I have had a few occasions where I saw very thin bars or strips horizontally across the frame. I can’t repeat it, but it looked like perhaps the pulses from the flash didn’t perfectly line up. Please send me an image, I would love to see it. Send to info at ianhylands dot com
@@IanHylandsPhotography Hello, I send you an email, I hope you could hacve a time to check it, thank you in advance for your help... English is not my natural language, I am able to read it but I have problems writing it.
@@existircuantico7141 I hope you have the problem sorted out. That's why in some cases hypersync as done by pocket wizard is an alternative or sometimes a better alternative. It's just one big chunk of light instead of pulsing of lights like in high speed sync does.

Thanks - I’m really struggling with my Transmitter Pro. The manual is not easy to follow. I just want to shoot at 1/1000 sec with y D-lite 4 on HS but it’s hit or miss.
I haven’t used the D-Lite 4 personally. Does it show up on your Transmitter screen as a D-Lite 4? There can also be issues with camera and lens compatibility, I can’t use Sony with an off brand manual lens and my Skyport Pro HS. What are the issues you’re having when you say it’s hit or miss?
@@IanHylandsPhotography thanks for your reply. I’ve finally worked it out .

Thank you , that was helpful ..what about motorsport rally , 4x4 or any kind of motorsport is there any recommendation .i have AD200 pro and Vi codox with Godox XProN TTL Wireless Flash Trigger.
I’m sorry Ramez, I didn’t see your comment. I’ve never shot motorsports with strobe, but I don’t imagine it’s much different than any other sport except the subject is moving faster, and is also perhaps a little bigger. With Rally a small flash like the Ad200 Pro is probably best used to put some light on the drivers face instead of trying to light the entire car, that’s best done with a larger light.
Good job! This is what we need. Not another celebrity selling lightroom presets...
Thanks, I'm with you on that one! I don't even use Lightroom presets so that will never be an issue.

This awesome, man!!!
thanks! Please let me know if there’s anything else specific you’d like to see. Been completely overwhelmed with work and moving the past month but getting back at it shortly.
So we’re you shooting with the flash on TTL or manual? Thanks
Great question! At the time I shot this video I was shooting in Manual mode, however I’ve since switched to the Godox Xpro transmitter (R2 from Flashpoint) and now I usually start shooting in TTL and use the TCM button to switch to Manual and keep the TTL light settings. This way I get a really quick setup and I can then tweak the light as needed without having to worry about the camera changing it on me if the ambient light changes. It’s super simple to use, just shoot in TTL, adjust as you want, then press and hold the TCM button and it will switch to manual with the flash levels set to the last TTL shot. Profoto and Elinchrom also offer this feature, although I don’t have any Elinchrom TTL lights so I haven’t tried their version yet. I have a half finished video comparing the 3 systems, I just need to finish it.
Thx for this Ian! I was sh*tting all over the Magbeam....frustrated with the 'pattern projection'. But your use of a reflector and Magbeam (in a previous video) to fill during sunny days, was a revelation for me...haha. NIce! Made my decision for a compact photo bagpack! Thanks Ian
Awesome Micha, let me know what you think once you get it.
@@IanHylandsPhotography Cheers Ian, just received my backpack and it is literally exactly what I expected it to be. Small, light and enough space for: Canon EOS R, 16-35 2.8, 70-200 2.8, a small mic and a DJI Mini 2 drone. The zoom lens is in the upper compartment, but that is 100% fine for me. Putting the DJI Mini away gives me space for another small prime lens. Big thanks again and have a good one!
That Evoc bag is awesome. I use the Shimoda Action X50 for big shoots like races. I can strap everything I need to it. They also have the Action X30 thats more compact. That EVOC bag is perfect to take on a ride. I have been looking for something like that for scouting. Thanks for the video!
