I live in the Phoenix Arizona Metro area and collect these agate nodules just outside Phoenix in the Gila Bend Mountains area. Some people call this area Fourth of July Butte or Chimney Beds depending exactly where you are.

Agate/quartz nodules that grew in the gas bubbles in the host rhyolite. They do resemble snail shells though! Thanks for watching!

Sometimes you can just tell from the skin that most likely it will be a good agate!

@@GemCabochons I know...those old sun bleached agates often have killer bands inside them. I call them ruin agates.

I work with heavy equipment and rocks all day and my hands get roughed up, so I apologize for my hands being a bit rough. Rest assured it is just skin which always grows back!

@@GemCabochons The rough skin on your hands didn't bother me much sir. It was your nails... You've been chewing on them nails, don't do that brother! Let em grow naturally and use a clipper to maintain them at a normal and tidy length :)

@@GemCabochons Then how come half of the nail is missing? Also, you can't get nails that short using a nail clipper, only by chewing. It has that typical trademark look of chewing away on the nail as far back as possible, to where the nail starts fusing with the skin. Yuck!

@@soetdjuret Again, thanks for your concern but I don't chew my nails. I'm constantly digging in piles of rocks I collect or out digging rocks up in the desert, my nails get roughed up and I can't do anything about it but let them grow back. If you want to talk about the rocks in my videos I will continue to reply, but I'm done explaining my fingernails. Thanks.

I love seeing the inclusions in some of these agate/quartz nodules! The sagenite needles in that one was really cool to see, thanks for watching!

Most agate cutters don't want to see quartz pockets in the agate. I think a small pocket of quartz or a druzy pocket completely surrounded by agate looks great! When it is completely quartz if the quartz is clean they can also look great especially when polished! Thanks for watching!

I just watched it (very cool), looks like a fossilized seashell. If from the USA probably came from somewhere in Southeast or Northwest regions. My guess would be Florida!

I could try to use colored backgrounds to see if a different color shows better, but my studio Photo Booth is white and that is what I'm currently using to make these videos. I also use this Photo Booth for shooting the pictures for my Etsy listings. Thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate it!
