Recently acquired Yeasu FTM-350 mobile radio and have to admit, it's an absolutely cracking piece of kit. The display is by far, one of the best for mobile operation with a couple of fantastic features.

Follow up video on the 101MP after 3 weeks of use. I can honestly say it’s the best radio I’ve ever used - by a country mile. Superbly engineered. Superbly laid out (in my opinion) and a receiver that is simply stunning. Well done Yaesu - you’ve hit the jackpot.

I've got the ft 2000 and the DNR on that is fantastic as well Duel receive is great

I have MFJ 962E can i connected to the yaesu or do i need external power supply ?
I have for sale at 350 its the full gersion 144 50mhz 70cms sats ans encoder too same as yours
What is opinion on the FTDX-101MP, mainly the V-Tune and roofing filters for added quality of noise reduction and additionally the 200 watts, dual tuner and power supply speaker add to a better experience? If the V-Tune and roofing filters are not as helpful for added ease of hearing then the FTDX10 maybe the best choice?
Great video Stuart, great delivery. You'll have to try an Anan or even a Hermes Lite 2. The NR2 makes these radios sound like an FM radio. 73's around the house. de ON8EI

Yes - most definitely. One of the best radios Yaesu ever produced and still very much sought after by many. Just make sure that you try before you buy.

I just upgraded from a 991A and I'm blown away by the amount of features. In just a few days I've made contacts in Wyoming, Michigan, Minnesota, Florida and Georgia. All this off of a Comet CHA250 vertical antenna. I expect it will take me some time to fully understand and be able to make use of the receiver(s) many features. This radio has really rekindled my interest, maybe enough to seriously try to learn the Morse code.
Anything that rekindles an interest is radio is something to be celebrated. Well done! And go for the morse side of things too - I'm addicted to it! ;-)
I have a question how did you get the monitor on the radio on the right hand side and the tuning knob is on the left I’ve never seen that configuration is that an American or Japan Japanese rig? What model is that please reply thank you.
It was just the camera - the display is on the left as normal and model is the 101MP. (highlighted in the video as being back to front)
Nice vid. I went from the Flex 6400M to the FTDX101MP about 9 months ago. Best decision I made in a rig change. 101 is not perfect none are. Ergonomics to me are almost perfect, as you noted. Any issues I currently have with it will be future firmware adjustments and enhancements. Lastly, the Yaesu M-1 mic. Yep, very expensive. Let me put it this way...now I have a box of Heil mics I will never use again:-) The mic is brilliant. And unless you own or get to operate one it is hard to explain, but it is that good and and the added functionality they had to use the mic is brilliant.
Agree completely. The M1 is a superb microphone but it is expensive - although when you consider what the average cost of a Heil mic is, it's a no brainer - and of course you have the option of mixing all the great attributes of a dynamic and condenser mic together with a great EQ system.

I'm assuming Yeasu are aiming this at people that don't want an amplifier? Secondly, the MP comes fully loaded with the VC tune unit - which is optional on the D model. It's a superb radio (the MP & D) - either of which I would happily keep forever. The general layout of the radio isn't for everyone - and I appreciate that, but in my opinion I find it to be an incredible radio all round. Purely from a receiver point of view alone, it's hard to beat. And the DNR function is by far the best I have ever used.

Compared to the following - which I have owned: Kenwood TS990, Icom 7700, Icom 7800 mk2, Ftdx5000MP, Ft9000MP, Kenwood TS2000, Icom 7300, Icom 7400, Icom 7610. So, I think I can safely say that it's a good comparison.

Hi Stuart, does the 101mp have the VRF function like the 5000mp ? That's a great weapon against noise, being able to turn the IF gain down
If you mean the VC Tune option, yes it does - and it's super at cancelling out unwanted noise.
It’s pretty amazing that Yaesu has gone the extra mile to configure things for “wrong-side” driving for the Uk market!

The FTdx10 is a superb radio - and in my humble opinion offers the best value HF radio on the market at the moment. It blows the 7300 out the water from a performance POV. Having the availability to connect an exterior monitor is great too. That, along with the very comprehensive EQ system onboard the FTdx10 makes it a real winner all round in that area along of course with having a great price point. The only reason I went for the 101MP was down to having a bit of spare cash at the time. If it wasn't for that I would still be quite happily using the FTdx10. Having a second receiver wasn't a big issue for me or the fact that the Ftdx10 only has one antenna port. Easily rectified with a good antenna switch.

@@stuartmcloughlin I am using a FTdx10 since July in an apartment with the ATAS120 mobile antenna installed on my porch, noisy urban enviroment surrounded by buildings and realy works phenomenal.
Had my mp for 12month now and it’s a keeper...thanks for the vid 73 2E0IKM

Cheers George. It's a super radio mate. Best I've ever used by a country mile. The VC tune used in conjunction with the notch/contour is just sublime - and of course gets shot of any unwanted noise.

some one told me to buy an icom 7300 and save $3,000. Says that as a new ham, I'll never use all the features the Kenwood offers. Any thoughts?
It depends entirely on the operator. (and of course their budget) - however there is no comparison performance wise between the Icom 7300 and the TS990. I've had both and the 990 blew the 7300 out of the water. As said, it comes down to individual budgets and requirements but having owned a TS990 for a number of years I can assure you that it's a superb radio. Earlier serial numbers models did have an issue with noise reduction features distorting incoming signals however this was subsequently fixed with a firmware update. The 7300 is also a very good radio but it's not something I would personally use as a main station - but that's purely a personal opinion.
Nice review, I've had one of the 857D radios for about 5-6 years, best money I ever spent. Like you say, once you get used to how it works and programming it, they are literally a shack in a box, especially when you get all the modes and frequencies that most Ham's are ever going to need. 73, Mike, ZL3XD.

Got another question for you about the USER button right below the main VFO, I know that it turns green once pressed but how does it turn off? or simply how does it work. Thank you and my 73 de KH2ZZ
I watched you didn't receive the answer. I have the same radio 1 month and I also thought about it. Just choose the required mod. USB, LSB and others. It will turn off. As my answer will be late, but a year ago I did not have FT1000MP. Many nice QSOs with this amazing radio. I bought it even though I had the IC7300 and IC7000.

I sew that the last part of the video a short footage of having it dual recieve features, DO you have to have 2 antenna plug on the back of the rig to activate that features or only one coax cable or antenna A? Thank you for anyone that would response 73 de KH2ZZ
No you don’t need a separate antenna. The 1000mp has duel receivers which allow two bands to be used/listened to in the same antenna port. For example, when this video was taken, it was connected to a hex beam via antenna port 1. No other antennas connected.

A MD-1 mic think is a better mic than the MD-100 I have had them both and your right the MD-100 does have a higher pitch to it.
