Greetings! I'm Molly. I have a love of history and I enjoy hunting for old cookbooks while antiquing. I'm eager to taste the food that people ate in by-gone eras. We can all learn a lot about those times based on what food was available, what food was trendy, and how it was prepared. Join me as I adapt retro recipe techniques to modern, home kitchens! I will always put the recipe down in the description box so you too can share in the experience!

Old Fashioned CASSEROLE RECIPES| Favorite TUNA Casserole| Fun With Casseroles!
This old fashioned casserole comes from Cooking With Casseroles which is from 1958. You can either use a can of mushroom soup in this recipe or make your own. You can also sub 1 cup of flaked crab meat or salmon instead of the tuna. Enjoy!
1 can (7oz) tuna (I could only find 5oz cans of tuna so I just used one of those)
1 can (10.5 oz) condensed mushroom soup
2 cups crushed potato chips
Minced onion
Lemon juice
Flake tuna and mix lightly with mushroom soup and potato chips. Season to taste with minced onion and lemon juice. Turn into a greased casserole dish and bake in a 375F oven for about 35 minutes. Serves 4.
Optional method: Instead of using mushroom soup, make a sauce with 3 TBSP of butter or margarine, 3 TBSP flour, and the liquid from 1 (4 oz) can of sliced mushrooms plus enough milk to make 1 ½ cups liquid. Add mushrooms to mixture. Use 1 ½ cups diced cooked chicken or turkey; or a combination of cooked chicken and veal, instead of tuna.

Simple Beef ENCHILADAS Recipe! Tasty CASSEROLE Dish From 1968!
For some reason "my cats are sniffing the air" hit my funny bone LOL! Mine do the same thing when I open a can of anything lol. Glad I found your channel! New subscriber here!
They are so good at knowing when food is around!
His look is awesome.
Dan is very serious about tuna
I like making the creamy tuna sauce separately and pour it in noodles....doesn't count as a casserole but hey I like it!
Ok that sounds good! What do you put in the sauce?
Ok, maybe this wasn't the best recipe to make so I can learn to like fish. Does anyone have a good recipe suggestion for me for a good beginner friendly fish recipe?
I'd let Dan try my pickle too 🥒
LOL!
🤣you definitely know very well your hubby Dan, "He'll probably go for the powdered sugar ones" but he did have a sugar cinnamon one, those are my faves.😂😋Pretty lady, are these what some folks call 'cake donuts' or is it something totally different? I remember back home at Miller's Supermarket in s.e. Utah, Mr.Miller would make plain, apple, blueberry and strawberry cake donuts.😊👍
I do know Dan pretty well, at least I like to think I do! I think these are cake doughnutd but honestly, I'm not 100% sure. A strawberry doughnut sounds divine!
This brought me to your channel. I made it today and smells just like my mom’s recipe. I know I’m a little late to bake it for Christmas, but I’m looking forward to my first bite. I skipped the glaze and soaked two loaves in orange juice and one in captain Morgans rum. Skipped the stawberry and added a scant half tsp of salt. Additionally my mom always served with hard sauce which I will make for serving. I have tried buying fruit cake in the last few years which all were fails because they were way too sweet for my liking, and haven’t seen a recipe until this one that looked remotely close to what I wanted…like mom used to make. Thank you! New subscriber!! 😊
I'm so happy you found a fruitcake recipe that you love! Your additions sound delicious!
Exactly how I make mine except I now use avocado oil instead of shortening.
I bet it's really good that way!
My mom had this same book but someone took it and it had all her favorites. Can you tell me the who made that book so I can find one to replace hers
Oh no! This book was made by the Culinary Art Institute with Ruth Berolzheimer as the editor. Consolidated Book Publishers was the publisher and it was published in 1952. Please let me know if you want me to make any specific recipes out of this book or if there's any more info you need about this book. I'm happy to help!
Lol your husband’s facial expressions are funny
He cracks me up sometimes!
I guess if this girl can wing it, so can I.
Hell yeah! You can do it! 💪
My mom makes the old recipe for stuffing.Boil chopped up, celery, onions, giblets in broth.Add bread and season. So good!
Sounds so good!
if you butter and four the pa well you don't have to line the pan
Thanks for the info!
Thats the way I make my dressing for Thanksgiving very good video my stupid oldest sister cooked the bag that is inside the turkey I have never laughed 😂😅so much when I seen her do that I didn't want any turkey after that I don't even know what else my sister put in that turkey 😂
LOL I always check for the bag inside the turkey but this year I SOMEHOW completely forgot about it and found it in the neck cavity after I cooked it!
@TastesSoMuch Oh no that's very funny 😄
Christ, how much of EVERYTHING, quantities please
The recipe is in the video description..
i wonder if you sprayed the bowl with non stick spray before you put the popcorn and syrup in before mixing if it would help with stirring in the bowl
looks delicious
Thank you 😋
Sorry for the cat drama in this video. They love to be the center of attention at all times!
Three years down the line... I'm curious if you simply continued to use that yeast mixture, 1 cup at a time, until it was gone. And then made up a new batch. From my reading I think the purpose was to make a small amount of purchased yeast go a long way and last a longer time - perhaps through the long, harsh winters.
I did use some of it after this video but I found I had to add extra yeast in to get my bread to rise. I bet you're right about why they did this!
I have to order candied citron from Amazon to make my fruitcakes from the Household Searchlight.
Me too. I can't find it in any store near me.
Wash your chicken 🐔 fool!
What's funny about this is my mom used to make us cornmeal mush growing up and I thought it was a name that she made up until I saw this video LOL
Who knew it was an actual dish!
My Grandpa would fry it up and it was super good! I've been looking for this . Thank you.
That sounds delicious! I hope you enjoy this recipe!
He must have eaten a lot of cookies when he grew up like that :). Again, the cookies look great and it just made me crave cookies. :)
LOL I always crave cookies!
Well, it looks very tasty! I've never eaten it, so I was looking up what it was and came across your video. We have a similar dessert in the Czech Republic, it's called Biskupský chlebíček, but it's not the same. I'm thinking of following your recipe. Thanks! PS: I subscribe and like. :)
I hope you like this recipe! Thank you for subscribing and joining the fun :)
We spread it on bread and warm in the oven.
Yum!!
Wash your turkey please
Salmonella will spread everywhere if you wash it 😂
I thought we weren't supposed to do that anymore?
@@TastesSoMuch I usually let my turkey sit in a lemon and vinegar and salt brine just for the flavor not so much about the salmonella but it also helps me feel like my turkey got clean from the lemon but I agree salmonella does spread everywhere if you get messy when washing meats only use one tray to avoid spreading it to all your trays/ plates 🤍
Wow..very nice😊
Thank you! Cheers!
Should brown the bread fool
Me and my girlfriend were watching she told me that you should use a oil with a higher burn temp, or sear on lower heat. Thanks for the recipe!
I think she's right about that!
My sister and I are pretty sure this was the recipe my mom used, starting in the 1950's. We know she had this cookbook. It was the best apple pie we ever tasted. My mom would always donate her apple pies for bake sales and they always sold out immediately. Everyone who ever tasted her apple pie always raved about it!
It sounds like your mom was an excellent baker! Please let me know if you make this pie and if it turns out like how you remember!
wonderful video! sorry you have a jealous hater in your comments. Keep cooking and trying new recipes. Its way more entertaining and valuable than watching some troll’s dollar store haul🙄
😱
You can Always put a pack Or two of Onion soup mix!! That gives it Great Flavor!! (& Garlic Powder)!!…& if your making gravy.. Make mashed potatoes for the gravy to go on!!☺️👍👍😋
That onion soup mix is pure gold! Have you ever put it in a meatloaf?
Dans Right!! These cookies are too small!!.. In Would make cookies the size of at least Quarter.. or 50 cent piece!! I like BIG Cookies(& kids would too)!!🥰
Dan does know his way around a cookie, I'll give him that!
I season my roast to my taste. I've never cooked it on the stove top. I do it either in the oven or crockpot. Weird the recipe doesn't have much liquid. Good thing you add more or it would have been dry. Cute kitties and dog. I have 2 cats.
What are your kitties' names? Yes, this recipe definitely needed more liquid!
@@TastesSoMuch Remy boy and Callie who is a girl. Remy is a Tuxedo cat and Callie is a Snowshoe cat. They have their own YT channel Remy boy and his Mommy.

Will do!! Thank you for the nice comment! :)
All the fall vibes!!! Apple pie and roast with root veggies...I'm drooling here. It looks fab, I can almost smell it! I've been eyeing the roast I have in the freezer...but it's fall one day, then the face of the sun the next..so I'll be a bit more patient. This recipe is very similar to one I use and it's a hit every time. Dan's response 😂.
We're definitely in the thick of fall now! Pot roast and apple pie go hand in hand in my opinion!
I should've tossed Dan in that pot. It would have been a cheaper cut of beef to cook.
😂😂😂
What happened to his beard?
My two favorite TH-camrs! I love pot roast, but I refuse to pay that much for beef.
Yay!! Thank you for watching! What the heck is going on with beef prices? Chuck roast used to be the cheap cut of meat when I was young!
@@TastesSoMuch exactly! That's why I eat a lot of turkey and chicken. Beef went through the roof.
We do too for that exact reason!
What time is dinner????
I need to get one of those triangular bells to ring when it's dinnertime. That should get Dan's attention lol
I think it was the kind of oatmeal you used to make them so flat, but you can add more oatmeal , carefully.
I think you might be right about that. Next time I'll add a bit more and see how it turns out.
There are too small, mom made them double. Can’t eat uncooked eggs, but we liked the beaters anyway. Good with a glass of milk.😮
I usually make my cookies really big because who doesn't love a big cookie! A glass of milk is a must with these!
There are too small, mom made them double. Can’t eat uncooked eggs, but we liked the beaters anyway.
I always licked the beaters too! Thankfully I never got sick from the raw eggs!
My mom made these with semi sweet chocolate chips, mmm so good. No nuts, thankfully.
I love these with chocolate chips!
Old Fashioned Oatmeal Cookies, looking so GOOD! This is a MUST DO seeing how golden brown the cookies came out and then when you said they're so good and chewy, reminds me of the oatmeal raisin cookies made by City Market's Golden Krust Bakery! 😋👍
ohh where is that located? I love oatmeal cookies but I never make them and now I'm wondering why that is. It's probably because I'll eat all of them lol
@@TastesSoMuch this is in se Utah, a couple of years ago i found out City Market was bought up by Kroger's.
You can use two spoons. One to dig up the dough then the other spoon to remove dough from the first spoon.
That's a great technique! That's how I usually do it but Dan would rather use brute strength to make cookies lol
Where's the actual recipe with measurements 🎉🎉🎉😢😢
It's in the description box
Yes it's in the description box!
This was soooo fun!!! You guys are an absolute hoot!!! ❤
Thank you!!
Omg!! Those look yummy!!! I just made zucchini bread tonight from the garden zucchini.
I love zucchini bread! My garden didn't do well this year so I need to figure out what went wrong and fix it for next year.
