Mexico just recognized the melanated people there as being Indigenous... and Mexico and Jamaica are both apart of America. WE NOT AFRICAN... i got videos and spoke to many Africans personally and they agree!

I hear where you're coming from, and I respect everyone's right to identify however they choose. Identity is personal, and no one can force another to claim a heritage they don’t feel connected to. However, when discussing history, DNA, and ancestry, we have to ground ourselves in facts, not just personal feelings or anecdotal conversations. 1. DNA and Scholarship - Genetic studies across the diaspora, including Jamaica and other parts of the Caribbean, overwhelmingly confirm that the majority of our ancestry there traces back to West and Central Africa. This isn't speculation-it's been repeatedly confirmed by science. The Transatlantic Slave Trade forcibly displaced millions of Africans, and their descendants now form the populations of Jamaica, Haiti, the U.S., Brazil, and beyond. This is not a theory-it is well-documented history. 2. Historical and Cultural Evidence - Our languages, religions, music, and traditions in the Caribbean are deeply rooted in African customs. From patois to Kumina, from Rastafari's Nyabinghi drumming to the reverence of Ancestral spirits, these are undeniable African continuities that survived despite colonial oppression. 3. Indigenous Recognition in Mexico - The fact that some melanated people in Mexico are being recognized as Indigenous does not erase their African roots. Many Afro-Mexicans, like Jamaicans, are descendants of enslaved Africans. Indigenous identity is complex, and governments sometimes apply political labels that don’t always align with historical truths. 4. The Danger of False Narratives - Choosing not to identify as African is your personal decision. But spreading misinformation that denies Africa’s role in our ancestry is not just incorrect-it’s harmful. It keeps Africa’s children disconnected from their heritage, weakens our global unity, and ultimately promotes self-hate by rejecting the very roots that made us who we are. We must be careful not to let colonial trauma, misinformation, or personal feelings blind us from historical reality. Embracing Africa does not mean rejecting our unique Caribbean identities-it means understanding the full picture of who we are. At the end of the day, you are free to identify how you wish. But we all have a responsibility to speak truth, especially when history, science, and culture make that truth undeniable.

You're both right. There were Black indigenous natives, and they did kidnap and enslave Africans along the west coast. You have to do your own research, but they put together Black natives with the Africans so unfortunately it'll be nearly if not impossible to verify with records or blood. They moved natives from their homeland across the Americas and Islands, and didn't keep records. Trying to disconnect people from their true history and culture.

To add on to that, I was born in Africa. I have family who were born in the diaspora. There are people who are 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 15, 20 or more generations deep in the diaspora-living in the U.S., UK, Canada, Asia, the Americas, and all over the world. On this page, there are Africans on the continent and Africans outside of it. Each of us carries different cultures, unique identities, and sometimes mixed heritage. In Africa, you can have someone born in Zimbabwe whose family is originally from Malawi, yet they belong to the Nguni people-the same ethnic group as the Zulu and Ndebele. Outside of Africa, you might have someone in America who has been there for generations, born and raised in L.A., with roots in Mississippi, yet their DNA is still overwhelmingly Yoruba, Fulani, and even mixed with Native Cherokee and European ancestry. Does it make sense for them to say they are not African? Africans have left the continent for many reasons-some by force, some by choice-but what binds us is the core genetic and ancestral identity of being African. Many here know exactly who they are in that respect. When they go to Africa, it is self-evident. Our enemies know who we are, and so do our friends. I can look at an African American in L.A. who is the spitting image of someone deep in the Congo. How incredible is that? To know that kinship transcends continents, centuries, and even traumas. That same brother can go to Ghana, receive citizenship based on that recognition, and walk among Ghanaians without anyone questioning where he’s from-because unless you ask him, you wouldn’t even know he wasn’t born there. Are they doing the same in Mexico? No amount of videos or conversations with Africans-who may be no less misinformed than an African in Brazil who never had access to knowledge of self and believes they have always just been “Brazilian,” as a second-class citizen-can erase that vast and undeniable truth. Be well.

I wonder why you felt the need to put that in capital letters. I hope you now feel better about yourself now that someone told you that you’re not African.

@mexifilipinahny I hear you, it's true that history is layered and complex. But in 2025, we have mapped the human genome, we know how to trace ancestry with precision. If there is any doubt, the best way to settle it is simple: take a DNA test. It will tell you definitively whether your lineage traces back to an Indigenous tribe in the Americas or if your roots are in Africa. Instead of speculating, let’s rely on science and history to guide us. Now, when we talk about African ancestry, it’s also important to recognize that Africa is not a monolith. The continent has distinct ethnolinguistic groups, including Afroasiatic, Khoisan, Niger-Congo, and Nilo-Saharan populations. These are not just broad categories-these are actual genetic, linguistic, and cultural distinctions that exist to this day. The vast majority of the African diaspora-Jamaicans, Haitians, Black Americans, Brazilians, and others-descend overwhelmingly from Niger-Congo peoples. These are the Yoruba, Igbo, Akan, Mandé, Kongo, and other West and Central African groups. I can look at someone and see the features of a Niger-Congo person versus someone who is Nilo-Saharan or Khoisan because these groups have distinct markers, just like you can distinguish East Asians from South Asians. This is why the “we will never know” argument doesn’t hold up. We do know-through history, genetics, anthropology, and even our own family traditions. The truth is right in front of us, and it’s up to us to embrace it.

I'm glad you like it. from one writer to another, I made the conflict revolve around opposing values. Oya's arc is about transforming from meekness to independence, striving to step out of Shango's shadow and claim her own power. Shango's arc, on the other hand, is a lesson in how unchecked ambition and power can be a double-edged sword-a theme symbolized by his double-sided axe. The magic potion serves as more of a catalyst, acting as a mirror to reflect their inner struggles.
