The Villa Necchi visit in Milan.
Angelo and Gigina Necchi left La Scala and emerged in to the Milanese fog, so thick that it obscured the Duomo. The headlights of their Isotta Fraschini cast an eerie glow but for an unknown reason they gave their driver instructions to leave without them. Walking through the fog they became lost and found themselves in an undeveloped suburb. A derelict garden a real waste ground caught your imagination there was a for sale sign and the next day it was purchased. On that night and with this decision you became Milanese. Architect.Piero Portaluppi was instructed to deliver your Villa a minute country estate within the city. To be built in the new Italian Rationalism style with no constraints on the budget. This is the Villa Necchi and I have been a little bit in love with it ever since I saw it in Luca Guabagnino’s film. “I AM LOVE “ with Tilda Swindon. Now you can actually visit, so I did.

Thank you very much for bringing this jewel to our attention. High on my to do (visit) list in 2025. Mark, with all respect: It would be so easy to learn how to pronounce Italien names 😉 To give you a hint: (Auto)Bianchi, Lamborghini, Spaghetti -> Necchi. Hey Mark, it's Jonnie Byford. Wanna say you've got a flippin' good site up here on TH-cam. I found this Auto Moto d'Epoca Bologna 2024 'cause you only uploaded it a couple of days ago - and it was great to see the Lambrettas on the video. Btw, I visited your house again since I dunno where your garage is anymore. Your wife Fiona told me she'd mentioned I came round a week ago and you're just very busy, but we had a brief chat. I've got a son who's 13 too (as well as a ten year old!) But back to Lambrettas, I totally understand you don't wanna sells yours (at £2,500 cash) but if you hear of one for sale locally, or change your mind, please put me first on your list of prospective purchasers. I'm desperate for an autumn project but would have to travel to check 'em out, then go back again with a Transit van. I could be absent for a while with my family but you've got my number: 07546 565505. Would always be good to catch up sometime, I've got some fond memories of the old days. Ciao 4 Now me old mucker, Jonnie

Great video Mark, as always. I do love to see old stuff being mended. But then again..I had a Ghibli for 20 years..look at those fan blades (actually yours look much better than the original ones on mine), no matter what nick the motors are in, they're never going to move much air. Especially if there's an air-con condenser in the way. Arguably the best thing I did (for peace of mind anyway) was to install a SPAL 16" single modern fan in the middle of the radiator and never worry again. Those nIce-but-ancient Ducellier motors and salad-plate fan-blades went into a box for the next owner. Originality is crucial, I know, but when it's 30°C, you're cruising at 75mph, then suddenly off the motorway into a traffic jam.... you're glad of some 21st century cooling and a hidden override switch. No?
