Always loved this scene. They had the toughest relationship while she was growing up but that means love they shared was earned. Its why Ellie is the only one not to turn on Jed when Zoe was kidnapped. She already knew her father's faults and shortcomings and had chosen to love him anyway. His story of the wall was his way of telling her how he loved her as well. So, even though as a child her relationship with him was the most strained, as an adult they probably have the deepest level of affection for each other.

At the end of their shift, all those waving soldiers were disciplined for letting a little girl distract them.

Of all his daughters Ellie was the best. Liz married a moron who was fucking their nanny. And Zoe was dating a complete drug addled French twat. Ellie married for love to a nice decent guy who shared her interests.

I was not a fan of Harriet Hayes. The show presented her as a great comedian who was getting put upon for being a Christian, yet she came off as a humorless diva who wasn't really that funny. In the episode where she demands the show retract a joke about a small town that cancelled a high school production of THE CRUCIBLE, citing that the town is populated mainly by low-income factory workers. "Why can't the school do what play it wants?" she laments. Because self-appointed moral guardians like you get in the way, Harriet. At another point she is asked about her take on same-sex marriage and answers that it's against the Bible but we shouldn't judge. The show presents her as being attacked by the press by both sides of the debate. Of course you got blasted, Harriet, because you copped out.

President or not, at the end of the day he's just a man - and a father, who's having his own coming-of-age, one-in-a-lifetime moment. And that makes us understand and sympathize with him.

I love the scene when he's on the phone with Russia and China and basically telling them to go to their corners because he has to go give his daughter away and he can't do that while they're threatening to kill each other. Like you two are acting like petulant children.
