It's like a grown up version of Blue's Clues, no wonder my parents loved this show so much. And I'm just NOW realizing that my Dad mimicked Magnum's entire look - all throughout the 80's and 90's.

And there were a few times on Gilligan's Island where Alan Hale as Skipper looked into the camera in a moment of frustration with idiot Gilligan and those moments were hilarious that might be the first time it was done and Hale did this many times over the series run.

Brilliant his looking into the camera is what made the show so much fun it was unique it had never been done before or since. John Landis stole this gag for Trading Places he told Eddie Murphy to look into the camera when the Dukes are explaining commodity trading and it was a hilarious moment. And in Smokey and the Bandit the moment when Burt Reynolds looks into camera in 1977 after parking his car on a dark street to avoid the cops chasing him that might be where Bellisario got the idea from.

I think it works so well to break the 4th wall in Magnum PI because it is another way to communicate with the audience on an emotional level when he is contemplating quite absurd moments or moments that are perplexing for the character of magnum. The character narrates throughout each episode as an audio/mind connection with audience to get in on Magnums thought processes. The breaking of the 4th wall is the physical connection with the audience where we actually see Magnums emotions play out before us. I don't know many, if any other programmes that can pull this off like Magnum PI.

About 1995 he was drinking at the North Burnaby Inn , when he left 3 construction workers beat him up. I guess they couldn't understand that he was an actor playing a role. The problem with fame is many people are dumb.

This show still holds up to this day. One of the best tv shows ever. Its a real shame that they couldn't have come together on a script to catch up with what the real Thomas Magnum has been up to all these years, but that ship has sailed since TC is dead

I tried for 11 espoides to watch the Magnum reboot. I wanted to like it. Unfortunately I stopped watching it and didn't miss it.

It's a great gesture, breaking the 4th wall so much. Obviously a choice of the writers/directors/Selleck. It can have two simultaneous affects---that the viewer is being treated like he's really there and a character in the scene, or that Selleck/Magnum is breaking character just a bit to let the viewer in on the fun, that this is all truly pretend. My late mother-in-law was a big fan of the show and I must've seen most of the episodes at her place when I was dating her daughter. The show would grow on a person and it was apparent that everyone in the show was having a blast making it which made it enjoyable to watch.

That final one still gets me . I remember it like it was yesterday.
