I dabble in many things - Sometimes even bonsai!
The Difficult Japanese Maple - Fall'ish update
Remember this crazy tree? I do a pre-fall trim to take care of a few mistakes the tree made for itself. This is done in September in my area and there is still plenty of time before the tree starts to shut down for fall. It will heal everything done to it, before the first freeze. I'm not doing any major cuts but just setting it up for spring to optimize growth.

Olive and Exposed Root Red Maple Late Summer Silhouette for fall - August update!
มุมมอง 150หลายเดือนก่อน
Update for my Olive and Red Maple in late August, to give them that perfect'ish fall image. The Olive didn't grow as much as I would have hope - this is mainly because I repotted in spring rather then Summer. Next year I might slip pot it into a larger container and let it grow more. The Red Maple needs it's like 5th trim for the year as it just grows like crazy. It's should be ready for fall a...
Dealing with Rotten wood and an Ant Infestation - Bradford Pear Bonsai
มุมมอง 1.5Kหลายเดือนก่อน
This is a Bradford pear that I've been allowing to rot naturally but it kinda got away from me. There was a hidden ant colony I didn't know was in there that I took care of as well. I got it ready for fall as well by removing the extensions, they hardened off in late summer so they are safe to remove without causing new growth or harming they tree. Hope you enjoy the antics and see you soon! An...
Mid Summer Work - Getting a Old Flat Top look in Bald Cypress Bonsai
มุมมอง 4.3K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Bald Cypress are some of the coolest tree's, specifically the old flat top ones that have been around for hundred of years. I have tried to achieve that in this tree, way back when I collected it in 2014. It was just a stump then but I kept at it every year. It's finally getting to where I want it and it's a beaut! These guys ,when healthy, just don't stop and are just so cool! Any Questions pl...

How I Built a DIY Solar Powered Pond'ish - Part 1

I've been trying to build a Pond in my back yard for what feels like years, and three houses. Well you know what, I'm finally doing it. It might have taken a really long time ,and a pandemic to finally get me working on it but I've done it, kinda. I just started digging the pond out and had no idea how to do it or finish. How I Partially Defoliate a Red Maple Bonsai
มุมมอง 1.4K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
This exposed root red maple bonsai just doesn't quit, it grows sooooo fast - it's a double edge sword though, as It's super healthy but it send out some really long internodes. Full or partial defoliating really can help when you as this stage of development - This can help reduce the leaf size as well as help ramification. This tree still has a long way to go, but I really love this guy for si...
How To Drill Bulkhead Holes in Your Aquarium - It's Easy!

Well, in leu of me building my mangrove bonsai aquariums, I figured some of the important steps might be important to show. @@NoQuarter01 Thank you!
Brilliant video! I was laughing at your captions
Thank you! if I made one persons day better it was worth the effort
They have vigor! They may give you some cool new options in spring.
I'm hoping so 🤞
Pointless pointing - my favourite occupation :)
I do it all day long, I'm a professional
It’s definitely a project tree……. but I like it. But I’m that guy that gives less attractive women just as much attention as attractive ones. What’s ur tentative plan with the step sisters?!?!
Give a lot of love and hope they give it back. I plan on choosing a new leader for each in spring and go from there
She's leggy! Looks like an amazing year for growth on it!
Yeah it grew pretty crazy - more then I thought for a Japanese maple but I'm not complaining, well maybe a little...
Thank you for the video and content, showing how easy it can be to build if you have basic woodworking capabilities. 👍The one thing I would add to your build process - particularly if 3 sides of your aquarium are going to be housed in an enclosed cabinet - is to make sure that you make the width of the stand is 2-3” wider to provide you with space necessary (without needing to cut into the top rear 2x4 and jeopardize its strength integrity) to accommodate a cutout (on the stand top behind the tank) to allow for a pass through to hide and ‘feed’ any hoses and power cords for mechanicals one might be using ie: under tank canister filter, power cords (lighting, heater, wave maker, etc).
sounds good!
Thanks for this.
Sure thing!

Nice video , i would keep the death tree inside the house and stop watering it 😉 🎬 💯

How thick it actually is? And when did you chop it?
like 3 or 4 inches and I chopped it the fall before I collected it
Great video! I was wondering, do you keep your American beech in part shade? Mine got a little burnt this year. Cheers
Full sun to part shade - have them in both - the ones in full sun I have to water a lot else the leaves can get crispy

Nice to see a native used as bonsai. This one has some character for sure 👍🏽 I've got a few saplings for future bonsai about .75" thick but it'll be a while for them. Also the pirate theme was entertaining 😆

@@chrismarshall8321 Awesome 😎 Just keep at it, this looked like just a stump when I first collected it.
Do those trees have thorns??
No thorns - but the leaves look like thorns in the bud form
Coming along nicely
Coming from you that means a lot!
Wow! What a tree! seeing you carry it really puts things into perspective!
It's heavy but not too bad as Cypress wood is a lot like balsa wood but rot resistant - but it's still stupid heavy and awkward

I believe you ! Very nice 🌲
Great build man! What’s your thoughts on keeping the uprights inside the stand a few mm off of the floor to limit contact and prevent any levelling issues? I see a few builds done that way
As long as the main stand structure is supported I don't see and issue
Nice
Thank you!
Molested by a mulberry, what a beech. *sniff*
That's one happy look beech tree!
Yeah it's been growing very well despite me not giving it the attention it deserves. This next spring I hope to make a custom pot for it.
@@givetanks There are millions of these little beech trees that pop up here in the middle of pine plantations which all get run over when they harvest them. Sometimes I get tempted to "Yamadori them but it seems like a kind of delicate process. But it's probably better than being crushed and killed by a log harvester. Perhaps when I have more space I will look into it
Do it! Best time though is in spring before they leaf out, but if it's to save them then nothing to lose
@@givetanks Next spring I'll find one and see how it goes. There's plenty of nice trees that meet the same fate sadly. I pulled a little oak seedling a few years back and it's going well but not bonsai material yet
Do u have a favorite tree species for bonsai?
It's a toss up between Ume and Beech - but since I get distracted easily, could be black pine next week
