    Thats a genuine flat cable repair, they might not have been able to get the part if they resorted to that repair.

      @TheBeardedITGuy 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The cable is one that has never been out of stock from most suppliers (possible that they only looked on Amazon) and they never informed the customer who owns the laptop. Considering the "repair" failed and was causing issues with the hard drive it is not a legitimate repair.

    I've done that kind of repairs, before, on flat cables... But that usually involves... Yanno... CONNECTING the torn sides before applying the UV glue. And i always offer the customer a lengthy warranty on that kind of specific repair.

    • @TheBeardedITGuy
      @TheBeardedITGuy 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The worst part with this one is it is not a heat resistant cable even though it actually looks like one so even doing a solder job on it would just melt most the cable and do more damage. It's one of the fun things I've found with MSI laptops sometimes they use parts that look like good ones but are very much not

    • @Oryngton
      @Oryngton 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @TheBeardedITGuy oh, absolutely. Most of the ones i repair are also not heat resistant. So it's a double-edged sword. Client doesn't want to wait fir the part, so i soend the next hour slapping as much low-melt solder and flux as i humanely could and praying to the Machine God to not burn these things to dust.

    • @TheBeardedITGuy
      @TheBeardedITGuy 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I used to do more repairs like that but I've gotten to the point where I just tell the customer they'll have to find a different repair shop if they're not willing to wait for the part to arrive. Especially back when I worked for non-profits I was willing to do so many things that nowadays I would never do to a computer

    If the technician it actually known what he was doing. He might have been able to successfully bridge the damaged part of the cable and then coat that in the UV repair surface material. That at least with a disclaimer to the customer that we cannot acquire the part necessary but we can at least give you temporary access to your device if you take very good care of it it might last for a short period of time but you definitely need to find somebody who can acquire the necessary part for you or look at replacing your machine. A technician who fails to make that clear to their customer isn't worth their salt as a technician. And at the very least of the technician isn't the one allowed to speak with the customers and it goes through somebody at the desk whose job is to speak with the customers then it's on their shoulders to have informed the customer correctly. But yes there is no way to repair those cables by simply gluing them together this is an involved repair that takes a small amount of skill and a little bit of knowledge.

    • @TheBeardedITGuy
      @TheBeardedITGuy 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The only way you could bridge the connections on this type of cable would be to embed the wires in the resin because you can't solder onto the cable without damaging it more and having rigid cables on there would mean it wouldn't be able to flex in the way it needs to. No there is not a way to properly fix this even temporarily and this is also a part that costs less than $5 and has never been unavailable to my knowledge. This was not a proper repair in any way and was not told to the customer at all. Even if it was told to the customer you should never do a repair like this even if it is temporary there is no proper way to splice those traces back together.

    Ridiculous rant. Of course we take inflation into consideration including linus. You are not considering that almost NO ONE paid retail for xp. I worked in tech sales at the time of xp. We almost never sold windows at retail and very rarely sold it even at severely reduced price usually under 60. Almost every computer sold already had windows installed just like today. So the manufacturers were buying the bulk of licenses at the 15 to 25 dollar mark. Your argument is way of base.

    Maybe both is true? Apple has a range of products. Some of them target professionals and some regular consumers. Is a price tag of $800 for a monitor stand justified? Certainly not. The display though targets professionals. Are 8 GB of RAM enough for a computer? Maybe for the consumer market but not for professionals. Anyway, I personally wouldn't want to pay the prices Apple wants me to pay. My personal opinion is that the products are overpriced and Apple made some bad technological decisions that put cost reduction and design over function.

  • @TheGreatTimP

    That's not even considering that the Mac's memory is "unified", when you're using a Mac the 8 gb is shared between system memory and video memory too. 8gb is barely even enough to do basic tasks these days -- especially on windows. 16gb is the minimum I would recommend for a lower midrange computer. I usually put 32gb in my computers because memory is relatively cheap and it never hurts to have a bit more of it imo.
