Bluegrass: The Osborne Brothers Preforming Tennessee Hound Dog
1:45 - Banjo's got the blues... Banjo wants to cry... city don't love banjo... Banjo don't know why
This was revolutionary at the time - 1971 or thereabouts. The quartet is: Ralph, lead; Roy Lee Centers, baritone; Ricky Skaggs, tenor; Keith Whitley, bass (yes, a very young Keith singing bass; the kid had some range).
My last day on earth is the greatest song ever hope someone will play it at my funeral some day
So much love 💕
*_Banjo Kazooie Is Back At Home_*
He will be missed :(
Ralph Stanley's Gospel songs and hymns are Blessed with comfort and joy unspeakable. Scarlet Purple Robe and One drop of water are in the Bible.
I stumbled across this looking for Rocky Top Tennessee. I absolutely love this as I have a Bluetick Coonhoun but am wondering...is it really about a Bloodhound? I ask only because of the association Blueticks have w Tennessee. Either way doesn't matter to me, i love all hound dogs, and i love this song as this is the first i have heard this. Awesome song!! ❤❤❤
Actually The Tennessee Hound Dog is more of a Cur, Walker, Blue Tick type breed. While these breeds are cute when making this video I just wanted the look of the Blood Hound. Thanks for the comment. God Bless
And may bluegrass and the mandolin live a long time
I and we love you bill may you rest in peace brother
Fitting tribute to an amazing man.
Thank you Stephen I took a lot of pride making this. I still get chills with teary eyes listening to it.
Recorded 11 December 1971- Ralph Stanley, Roy Lee Centers, Keith Whitley, Ricky Skaggs, Jack Cooke, and Curly Ray Cline were at the session, but it is unlikely Curly Ray sang on this number.
At the end is states produced by Wendell Fields. I think im related to him.
I don't think but you never know. I might be related we are from Eastern Kentucky Louisa to be exact. Where are you from.
The she hounds say he's a has been haha
I feel blessed to have seen Mr. Stanley perform on several occassions. his music touches me to my roots. great video
I too was very fortunate to see Mr Ralph Stanley. I was young boy and I was able to play this banjo That is something I will never forget. This Song speaks volumes to a lot of people. I would have never dreamed when I put this video together that it would be viewed by so many people. Once again thank you for the kind comments. God bless
Thank you so much...
Ralph's singing sounded like it was from the most remote corner of the Appalachians.Compare the Carter family.Had a country mountain sound but not the same. The contrast is interesting to me.Both were great though.
One of my favorite Ralph Stanley songs. Glad we had him around to preserve such mountain beauty. Look forward to singing this one with him in heaven.
Sounds close to shape note singing.
darn just heard ralph stanley passed away last month. He Will be missed but his music will live on
Yes he will!!! Just heard him do Hemlock and Prim Rose's this morning WOW what a voice. Never duplicated that's for sure.
Can you believe there is a thumbs. down? Someone must have hit the wrong icon by mistake.
I think half of these views are mine...
Every flower that grows in the awaited spring is our Ma!..Every Eagle flyin by is our Pa! Always they will be with us!!
I think I will learn this and play it for church this Sabbath!! Beautiful song, beautiful and powerful message!
Thank you
awesome
Indisputably, Bill Monroe was one of the greatest musicians who ever lived but there's something about this song, a quality I guess, that I've always found to be other-worldly. Thank you for posting it.
Chilling and haunting on 1st listen, but beautiful - brings tears to my eyes
Don Baumann I couldn't agree more. When I was putting this together and when It came to the line of There I saw her spirit fading There was a accident with a piece of software I was using to get the effect that happened to give me the image that I did.. Go back and see the effect that the image has on that line. Thanks for the comment.
Bone chilling
We need more Ralph Stanleys and less Justin Beibers/MileyCyruses

Osbourne brothers ...What can I say.....I just love these guys music.. TOP shelf...
Hard to beat Bob & Sonny
Osborne Brothers sorry
Hell ! I'd almost say they are hard to match ! I wish I had gotten to see them perform in their hayday.
I had this song on the same 8-track. I believe it was done by a group called The Lonesome Pine Fiddlers not positive.
It was The Lonesome Pine Fiddlers. I could not get a hold of the original so I came as close as I could with this cut. They did the remake almost identical.
This is one of the first 8-traks I ever had. Took it from my parents back in 1979. They had this bluegrass mix or something and this was one of my favorites. Also on it was Pretty Polly I recall fondly. Thank you for uploading!!! OM Gosh!
Thanks for the reply. I still have the 8-track it's just been pretty well worn out lol. I am wanting to do a cut of Pretty Polly someday and it will be the same cut off of that 8-track Only the digital version..
I really enjoyed that. Good job! 8-)
Thank you I appreciate it
I really dont think people realize what a great mandoline player Mr Monroe was. He has this sound and style that cannot be copied.
Acapulco? as in Mexico? LOL I think you meant, "a capella"? :D
Wow :) :) :)
have u ever seen High and Lonesome: the story of bluegrass ? he sings two verses by himself. its awesome!!! i def prefer him by himself
Beautiful....................Betty
Steelman, i listened to this song 3 times every day for 2 weeks just so i could get through it without crying so i could learn the harmonies. Thanks so much. The ancient sound really stirs the soul. God bless.
Applause, thanks, added to a playlist...
Great lyrics!!!! V pretty!!!
Truly an art form. Does not get any better than this.
Can't find that "scene" track anywhere here?
Ralph sings this like the Old Regular Baptist,my dads church which is much like Primitive Baptist. There will never be another like Ralph,I love you Ralph,Bless you for touching us~
NICE VIDEO .
CANT GET BETTER
The Blues is the Blues no matter who you are. I don't see the difference between this and Son House. Both are under appreciated. Both have have tremendous power. Love this.
