Episode 48: Gut Healing Secrets Revealed Through the Power of Light
In this conversation, Rick Miller, RD and Carrie Bennett (@carriebwellness ) explore the impact of light on gut health and the role of circadian rhythms. Carrie emphasizes the need to be mindful of when and how we eat, as well as the importance of local and seasonal eating. Carrie and Rick discuss the importance of incorporating seasonal and local carbohydrates into our diets and emphasize the need to eat what is available in our environment and eliminate inflammation in the gut. They also discuss the impact of light on the gut microbiome and suggest getting sunlight signalling on the abdominal skin during warmer months and using red light therapy in the darker months. They caution against excessive reliance on supplements and recommend focusing on light signalling and natural foods instead. They also touch on exercise and the importance of being in a parasympathetic state before eating.

When you say sunrise how much time do w have to "catch" the juice from the sun before its too late? Is it still ok, to go get some light in your eyes/body as soon as you wake up even if the actual sunrise was already some hours ago?

The fix for the problem here is to return to the original diet prescribe for man, using science, the intelligence of the historical use of these plants to determine the dominant minerals in these natural occuring herbs. This is a diet predominantly based in non-hybridized herbs. Non-hybridized herbs containing complete molecular structures with high mineral and electrical value these are the keys to optimal health. What we now clasify as vegetables are all hybrids with incomeplete molecular structures, poisonous chemicals, like carbonic acid and cyanide which is very acidifying to the body hench destructive to our overall biology. The high consumption of meat is also another problem because the is another dangerous acid known as Uric acid but also meat is a acidifying and carcinogenic agent. As a matter of fact our nutritional deficiency is a result of our of our demineralized, acid/starch base food intake and main their accompanying chemicals. Carbonic acid (starch base foods) Uric acid ( the consumption of meats) and Lactic acid ( the consumption of dairy products).

If you live somewhere where the sun often doesn’t come out for days on end there is no morning sun or any other sun that’s visible. Does the ‘light’ exposure work the same way?

Yes. Even on cloudy days there will be light penetration (otherwise it would be dark), you just need to extend your time outside and wear as little clothing as is possible to get maximum skin exposure (skin is a non-visual photoreceptor)

24:56 hello from Canary islands...Great conversation. But what's the point of fiber, it's are not digestible carbohydrates (have a look to dr. Paul Mason, dr. Zoe Harcombe, etc... they talk about fiber.). And what about fructose (dr. Robert Lustig). What about the antinutrients in vegetables, legums, etc (Sara Norton)... most of the fruit and vegetables that we eat today it's has been hibridaze to be bigger, sweater... Carbohydrates are not essential on the diet. Have you seen the conference from Anthony Chaffe "plants are trying to kill you". From my point of view...low carb, keto or carnivore it's the way...and I come from "ayurveda/vegetarian/vegan" and before...Mediterranean.

Well carbohydrates are (mostly) found in vegetables, grains and fruit, exception being dairy products. So it comes together. Do any of you remember how melanoma cases suddenly skyrocketed in the 80s? I was living in Houston and every billboard between Galveston and downtown was pushing sunscreen (''Fry now, pay later'') while the news that we still listened to bombarded us with scary statistics. A friend of mine, an M.D., insisted that the disease rates hadn't gone up; cases were just being reported more faithfully due to better medical care. Currently, I see things differently. What if melanoma suddenly had become more lethal? People started staying out of the sun, vitamin D deficiency became a thing, bone disease became more prevalent, and joint replacement surgery really took off. Sounds like a regular gold mine to me.

I can’t say I remember directly as I was born in the mid-80s but I have certainly seen the adverts. Indeed, the same sentiment is from Dr Gulhane via Dr Richard Weller who is a renowned dermatologist in the U.K. and expert in UV effects on health. He also said in an interview with Dr Gulhane that melanoma may be over-diagnosed in many cases and as you say, the long term implications of vitamin D deficiency are profound.

@@laura-leemurphyuta78 it was my editing software, really overzealous with the removal of pauses. Nothing I can do sadly 🙏🏻 later episodes have been unedited for pauses - so part 2 with Morley is a much better listen in that sense.

I was writing this comment right when you mentioned it 42:30 “I’ve read that skin cancer can be caused from eating seed oils.” Also my son is 7 and I’ve only put sunscreen on him twice. I’ve used coconut oil a handful of times. We start our tan in the spring and are dark by summer to avoid burning. 👍🏼 My mom has basil cell and still lays out in the sun “Shes addicted” 😊 I was happy to hear the study about the benefits of being out in the sun for people with basil cell
