Big Guy DIY
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 23 มี.ค. 2020
I'm creating this channel to help others who are looking to do DIY fixes around the house, on their vehicles. or their toys such as snowmobiles, boats, Garden Tractor, bikes, etc. It's to help others save some money that may be scarce to come by in these tough times. Thank you for watching.
Kimpex Muffs/Gauntlets that fit Ski-doo GSX models and 2 ups with large handlebar pad.
The Kimpex muffs are the first handle bar muffs/gauntlets I found that will fit between the large handle bar pad found on Ski doo GSX and 2 up models. The spacing is too tight for most other muffs that use a 1/2" to 3/4" velcro strap to secure around the handle bar. These fit perfectly with in the gap with room to spare. I show a close up on how they close around the handle bar and look forward to using these this winter.
This is not a paid promotion but a product I have purchased with my own funds.

Full width Teak Platform Installation on a old bow rider
มุมมอง 44หลายเดือนก่อน
This video is how I purchased a full width, full teak platform, formally from a small cabin cruiser. I cut this down to fit on my 1984 Four Winns 170 bow rider. My boat orginally had a small 28-30" width swim platform that would always be under water when I would be at anchor AND when I would be at the back of the boat. There was never a way to just sit on the back because of a teak railing aro...
New Curved boat windshield replacement and install
มุมมอง 2312 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video, I found a place that not only installs a new curved windshield, but guarantees the work and product being installed. The original class windshield can not be replaced because of the age of the boat. Taylor Made no longer has the molds. IF glass could be used, it would be several thousands of dollars. Not worth it. The replacement windshield started to fail with-in a year and by t...
Adding a light bar to your 09-14' F150 front end...plenty of room!
มุมมอง 804 หลายเดือนก่อน
I already had a light bar I installed into the front end of my 2014 F150 bumper where the license plate would normally be located. There is an amazing amount of room to install a 10-18" light bar within the bumper with out installing a bull bar or light bar. In this video, I show how I installed the wiring harness and the access for doing it and how I upgrade my current Combo light to a Diode D...
How to install the Hammerhead Armor bumper on a 2014 F150 XLT
มุมมอง 1125 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video, I show what is involved in the installation of a Hammerhead Armor bumper onto my 2014 Ford F150 XLT. The factory (OEM) bumpers are a very weak point when it comes to any type of protection in the rear end. This new bumper is ¼” steel plate welded to have a snug fit around the truck AND adding much better protection from those occasional hits from really bad drivers or from a trai...
How to install/replace a Mogul 3-Way light socket in a floor lamp

In this video I show how to change a 3-way Mogul light socket in a old floor lamp. Mogul socket was the largest residential indoor light socket made. There are just 4 total screws that need to be touched. If the wiring is old or the wire casing is cracked, replace the wiring. I had to replace the wiring because it was soft and brittle and I show a simple trick to on how to do it. As for tools, ...
How I made a White Cedar bed frame

I bought brand new switched and they still don't unlock and lock
Just replaced my water pump on my 2014 F150 XLT. One broken bolt, one broken tap, ground a 15mm to a 14mm bolt, tons of Grey gasket maker, 242 loctite on EVERY DAMN BOLT, just finished barely in time for the weekend snow fall. Got truck plugged in for block heater take affect. Only needs plugged in for like 2-4 hours before starting and going to work. Over night plugging in, you don't need to unless weather like -20°F then by all means, make sure you have the correct gauge extension cord. I keep mine in my truck.
Environment tax? What in the hell is that?
i just bought this helmet.. i love it so much it works great for me
this video helped me great info
Glad to hear you’re happy with it!
1. You forgot to remove the plastic inserts from the inside of the shark bite. Those are only intended for use with PEX and similar plumbing. 2. One should be careful not to mistakenly connect to a hot water line for a refrigerator. A humidifier connection is similar to this, but should be connected to a hot water line.
Thanks for pointing that out!
Fantastic video man. Very good explanation. You refer to two plates, the one of the manifold and one on the cross pipe under the truck. I have a 2011 F150 and I get the sound when I touch the gas pedal, mostly in reverse, but it does happen in drive. I had this fixed before and on the invoice Ford said "found a loose heat shield on exhaust Y pipe due to broken heat shield clamp." Where about would I find this heat shield. I am sure the problem this time is exactly the same as last time.
EBay would be the best place to find the heat shield. The issue is the corrossion with the bolts into the header. Most of mine rusted into the header and could not be removed. So I was creative to get some of it fixed.
@@bigguydiy2184 Sorry I mean where on the truck would I find the heat shield?
Mainer I see, me too, western Maine here. Doing this same replacement, thanks for the demo!
I hope to retire up in Western Maine.
Great job! I have a 2012 Renegade X and I have some heavy duty springs that I need to install. Thanks for the information.
Best advise, be patient! Look carefully and obseve. If you get pissed, walk away for a bit and take a deep breathe. Good luck. Let us know how you made out.
@ I figured it out in the end. When I was trying to put the lower sliding plastic spring brackets back on, I used a 2 x 4 as a lever, worked perfect.
This is one hell of a great helmet review. Now I'm thinking about buying a Mission helmet. I have the BV2S and love it except for the condensation that builds up around the breath deflector. I gave up on the absorbing pads. Take care!
Two of my friends that have been riding with me for 12-15 years have moved from the BV2S into the Mission this season. They are also not using the heated visor connection because the helmet is not fogging up. I broke my heating cord 2 weeks ago when I headed out in 5F degree weather. I rode for 2 hours and no fogging. Comparing my current helmet (on it's 4th season) to my riding buddys, I see no obvious changes in the helmet so the system is working correctly. Have a safe riding season this year!
I know this is an old video, what held on the bottom tabs on the tank? Pulling a 2002 Summit 800 and those 2 bottom are a bugger.
I think it was 2 bolts, metric. If you have to drill the hole on the side near the top for the rubber grommet, be sure to use the correct drill bit. My size was a pinch too big and now I once ina while seep oil out between the grommet and tank. I do not fill the tank full because of this issue I created.
I found that There is a hole on each end of switch. Use small screw driver and pry up slightly as you release tabs. Makes switch removal even easier.
Thank you for the tip, I'll definitely be using that!
its called a snap ring😉
Yes, you are correct.
Thanks for the video, it helped me get through a similar project. In my case, the lamp had already been taken to pieces, including the socket. I got the same Satco socket shown in the video, and a new Satco 3-way LED mogul bulb. The Satco instructions were a joke, but otherwise all is well. Since everything was taken apart, including the metal shell that holds up the glass shade, I was having a tough time getting it all lined up again. I had started with the base installed on the lamp pipe as shown in the video. I ended up removing the base, assembling the base to the socket inside the shell, then adding the knob to the switch. Then I screwed the whole thing on to the lamp pipe. Not ideal, since the cord has to twist around a couple of times inside the lamp pipe, but it seems to have worked out. I had the lamp up on blocks, making it easier for the cord to turn and not stay too twisted. Maybe the lamp factory had a better way do it, no idea. A couple of notes on the electrical front. Not an expert, but I've rewired a few table lamps. The cord only has to be 18 gauge, and the Satco instructions actually say that, although they say as "NO. 18 A.W.G.". The video mentions that the extension cord used as a replacement was 16 gauge, so that's actually heavier than required. The Satco instructions also say you should tin the wires, although they don't mention bending them into a hook shape as the video shows. I tried it without the solder at first, and the wires pulled right off the terminals. I think the video shows the same thing on the first try. The tinning seems to be necessary because the terminals are just flat. That's fine for solid wire, but normal lamp sockets have nubs or recesses to hold stranded wire in place. The solder converts the stranded wire to solid wire, in effect. The video says there's "no positive or negative", true, but not quite right, there is hot and neutral. The socket has a copper-colored screw for the hot wire, and a silver screw for the the neutral wire. Almost any plug you can buy today has a wide prong for neutral and a narrow prong for hot. The idea is that the neutral ends up connected to the outer shell of the the socket. So you're less likely to get a shock if you're changing a bulb and happen to touch the base of the bulb while it's still touching the outer shell of the socket. You can still get a shock if the house wiring is wrong, or if you stick your finger down inside the socket after removing the bulb. So unplugging the lamp is not a terrible idea. With lamp cord (or an extension cord), the hot wire has a smooth casing, and the neutral wire has a "ribs", so it feels a little rough. Sometimes the neutral wire has a white stripe, but most often not. Any printing is usually on the neutral wire. I use a continuity tester to make sure the wide prong of the plug goes to the outer shell of the lamp. It should always be connected, regardless of the lamp switch. If so, your tester will light up or beep to indicate continuity. (You might also want to verify that the hot prong isn't connected to any metal parts on the outside of the lamp, and try all switch positions for that.) The video ends up replacing the cord. I would always do that anyway, especially if the cord was over 50 years old. The old cord in the video looked kind of sketchy to me. I ended getting 18 gauge lamp cord with a clear gold coating. That makes it easier to see the condition of the wire. I also got a matching gold plug, also clear, with prongs that swing in to pierce the wire, so no stripping needed on that end. My old-time hardware store with wood floors cheerfully sells lamp cord by the foot. You can buy 12-foot cords complete with plug for less on Amazon. The video shows the lamp originally had a knot in the cord just before it exited the base. Good idea, I had tried to do an underwriter's knot up at the socket end, but that wasn't going to fit. You do need something for strain relief. You may think the lamp won't be abused, but you never know what children or animals will come up with, especially since your rebuild may be good for the next 50 years. Technical notes aside, I really did enjoy the video. I had never even heard of a mogul socket before I saw this lamp, which was kind of a jigsaw puzzle at that point. The video showed me how things were supposed to go together. The video has a couple of false starts, but I went through a lot worse with my project. I'm still not sure that my final assembly method was the best idea, but it did get the job done.
This is excellent information I was not aware of and I am very happy you added this to the post!!
@@bigguydiy2184 Thanks, and I just found out that tinning the wire ends may be required by code. I never did tinning on table lamp projects, but those were years ago. I realize now that tinning would have helped. I also found out about SPT-1 versus SPT-2 wire. SPT-2 has thicker insulation, so probably a good fit for floor lamps. The extension cord in the video is probably SPT-2. Need to look at current code, which may now be free online, or the local library here generally has a recent version.
Absolutely fantastic detail in this review. I’ve researched this helmet for several days and this review solidifies the decision for this helmet. Thanks, and well done!
A riding partner of mine just bought a new one last week. Looks identical to mine. I thought they would do a little updating to it, but,... I could not see anything up front that has changed. He was amazed he can ride without the heated visor. I broke my heated visor cord Jan 11th and went out for a night ride at 11 dgrees F. My visor never fogged up and I breathe thru my mouth like a brine whale coming up for a school of plankton.
Nice fix ! My truck is lifted and it’s such an issue for me . Thanks for posting
Nice and thorough review!
Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent video. Thanks for the comparison and walkaround. It's good to know the tidbit about the undercoating/flooring. The biggest advantage of two axles is in the event of a flat, the trailer is still driveable and can be pulled over and dealt with. On a single-axle trailer, it's typically a much more catastrophic event. Also, you mentioned hauling three sleds. 3 short track MXZ 850s weigh about 550 lbs each when full of gas. Add in a bunch of gear, I'd assume you are very close to or exceeding the payload of 1690 lbs.
Since I am aware of cost of maintenance and fuel economy and my budget is super sensative to this, single axle uses less fuel for roll resistance. It's also cheaper to replace 2 hubs and maintain 2 hubs vs 4 hubs. Tires, cheaper to replace 2 tires vs 4 tires. After owning....oh, 7 or 8 (?) trailers both with single axle and double axles, I have spent waaayyy less time repairing single axles and money vs dual axle. I really thought about dual axles, but that drives the price up quite a bit because, now E-brakes have to be added by law to both axles because now the weight also increases over 3K lbs. I'll will never have or will try 3 sleds in this trailer, it will be always 2 sleds only. A third sled can fit in my pick up truck bed if needed.
What app are you running on your Garmin to navigate the trail system where you live? Great video by the way!

@ that’s great! Thank you for the info and Happy New Year!
@ I’d also like to know which product you bought for the case.
Amazing video ,.. just that music in the back ground brother gave me a headache. Blessings
Thank you for watching. I appreciate the feedback.
Good job
Thank you.
Double axle rides better. I’m not buying into the advantech being a lifetime product. You did a good job with your review and cost comparison I have too wonder on a hot sunny day if a black trailer would cause adhesion failure with the 3m tape between studding and wall skin. Yes it helped. I like buying local. But I’m not sold. I do like the diamond plate on the front. I would like too see rear stabilizers
I thought of a double axle, but since I trailer a boat already with double axles, the single axles was a cost saving both in maintenance and fuel over the long run. I was thinking of black, but black soaks up so much sun making the interior way to hot to be in during the summer months. You make a good point about the double sided tape using black siding. Since several other manufactures are also using the same product, I would assume it will hold up over the years to keep holding the black siding. I found the diamond plate to be too thin for the front. I would prefer a much thicker skin IMO which is why I finished the interior, behind the diamond plate with 2x6 lumber. Rear stablizer, totally yes on that. I will be talking with Proline about adding them. Thank you very much for your reply!!
Thanks for the video. My 2011 F150 has the lock/unlock button on driver door that doesn't work at all. Do you recommend trying this fix? Thanks
No, I would just replace the switch. Its very inexpensive.
Great video. I have a 1971 Mercury 800 which is new to me with the same manual tilt mechanism. I didn't understand the linkage between forward selection and the manual release.
I am glad I was able to shed a little light on this set up. It had me scratching my head for a moment.
Nice video. Big guy. I was wondering if you have a picture with your sleds inside of it? Thank you.
Yes, in this video, I loaded both sleds facing forward - th-cam.com/video/BQ2V1B1Nou0/w-d-xo.html Since that video, I have started loading the rear sled in backwards. This provides much more room to walk between the sleds. You can see the that set up in this more recent video regarding Gauntlets. th-cam.com/video/N765yjhXglM/w-d-xo.html. One sled forward and one backwards also allows me to move the front end over to the middle of the trailer so I can work on either side of the sleds. Backing the sled in is quite easy since the trailer is not super high off the ground so the ramp is not steep at all. The snowflap never gets caught back up. Advantage of a inlive trailer vs a side by side sled trailer.
Great vid. Very informative. I just got one. They are very well made and like you said it’s a great value over the long haul. Pun intended.
Glad to hear you are happy with your new trailer!
I have a similar Toro 8.25. Just has pedal on the left side a slight in the center near the steering column with a lever for the break I need to buy a battery for it. The person that gave it to me tells me the battery does not charge and where would I find a model number on this rear engine mower? If by any chance you have information on this, please get back to me. Thank you. Have a good day. Pleasant weekend Happy Holidays.
The vin number for the motor on this model was on the right side and it was a sticker vs a metal plate. That is all the info I can remember. As for schematics, Google is the best search engine and you will find something similar if not the same model. Parts were shared across different models to keep product cost down, typical manufacturing technique. Happy Holiday to you as well!!
thank you for the video. Looking to buy one this week. Can you send recommendations of the other trailer brands you mentioned?
Before you buy, look at the warranty, how it's made (process of painting) and does the manufacture stand behind the product. The best way is really to buy a trailer is from manufacture directly. Manufactures who get rid of the middle man (dealer network) will stand behind their product and have a better warranty. My Proline Trailer is made in New Hamshire and have the best warranty. If you buy from a dealer, the dealer cannot fix major issues, they have to run a claim thru the manufacture and well, we know what the outcome will be on that claim,...denied. Buyer is left holding the bag and dealer will not help, they just sell the trailers, not fix the trailers. Proline Trailers uses no dealers, if there is an issue, I deal with them directly. If the trailer is ever damaged in an accident, they will repair it (only Proline trailer, they will not repair other manufactures products) and they will work with my insurance company to cover cost. Find this kind of relationship with a utilty trailer maker and you will have a better made product with a company that cares, hands down.
How did you load the backwards sled? Is it difficult? Does the snow flap get caught on the track? Got a video of that?
The ramp is not steep at all so the snow flap is never and issue. I just back the sled up, then once I have 75% of the sled in the trailer, I align it correctly on the guides and finish loading it in. I make sure I have enough motentum going backwards so I do not spin the track. I have yet to have a issue after 1 season. What is very important is the trailer (like all trailers) should be hitched level to the ground. If the hitch on the truck is much higher to a level trailer tongue, then a drop hitch is needed. Never tow a trail slanted upwards, it has a great chance of fish tailing at highway speeds plus a higher risk of damaging the underbelly of the trailer on a steep change in grade like going from the road to a steep driveway. I saw this today where the trailer was attached way to high on a trucks hitch and the guy tore the trailer jacks off the rear corners.
I haven’t watched any other vids, because I don’t think I need to. You gave me the confidence to do this myself! I wish you had more Mazda 3 vids. ❤

Your tutorial was very good, but either your timing for making a video sucks or your neighbor is a giant dick.

Nicely done, that's better than the gorilla lift design. However, not all trailers have the tube frame at the top, like yours does, so not everyone can do it just like that.
