THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!!
I’m sooo glad I found this video. I was so confused on how and where to start with booking and the process of communicating to them leading to making them pay. As much as I’ve watched other videos explaing how they do it, you made it very understandable and easy to imagine. THANK YOU. ❤
The 5D IV was an amazing camera with the best IQ of any Canon DSLR imho. The only issue I had with it was a hit/miss autofocus, especially with Sigma Art lenses. The R6 II though, has similar IQ (maybe better) but way better autofocus and video.
Thank you, i love Katelyn James light and airy style. But i also like the dark and moody style. I think when i shoot a wedding i will choose which style suits the couple. When editing i do love saturation bringing out the colours.
Allie you're absolutely fabulous. Thanks
What about a macro lens for ring shots? Do you use them?
Great question! With the nature of the weddings I shoot, I am usually not trying to add more gear than necessary, so I don't shoot with a macro lens. I also don't have a ton of macro photos in my portfolio or galleries because that's not necessarily a style that I lean towards, but I know a ton of photographers that love the have a macro lens!
I agree completely on the 35mm 1.4L II! Awesome lens. I use the R5 and R6, but my only RF lenses are the RF 50 1.2, and the 16mm 2.8. In EF, I’m still using 24-70 II, 70-200 II, 35 1.4, 100mm macro, 16-35 f/4, 85mm 1.4L IS. Enjoyed your video!
I've been wanting to check out the RF 50 since I only have the EF, so maybe I'll have to give that a shot! That all sounds like such a great set up. Thank you for sharing and watching!
The "nifty fifty" is the Canon f/1.8 $125.00 lens. It's always been called the "nifty fifty" and the f/1.2 50mm lens is usually called the 50mm L lens. Huge difference.
Hey there! I might have mentioned that in an earlier edit before having to really cut it back for the sake of the video being too long, so thank you for making that clarification. The 50mm 1.8 is a wonderful lens, and I used it for the first two years of my career.
Great lens. I use it a lot for concert photography. Yes, it is heavy and expensive… but the image quality is amazing!
It's better to show some shots in broll with this lens rather than talk 👄 the whole video.
Felt like talking to my manager.
Hey there, I usually send this video to my second shooters when they are working with me for the first time, and when I’m paying above average rate for second shooters, I have expectations that I want communicated before hand. I thought it might be helpful to share for fellow wedding photographers or those shooting for the first time.
Love that lens, it's on my camera 90% of the time. One question, do you use a filter on it to protect it ?
It's such a great one! I currently do not have a filter on it, but I plan on getting the 95mm protective filter when it is back in stock! Thanks for watching! :)
For men, Ministry of Supply has some great stuff. They're not cheap, but the black dress pants and dress shirt I got from them were well made, durable but with enough give for all those photographer positions you mentioned, moisture wicking, and wrinkle resistant. Perfect wedding photographer clothes. (They sell clothes for women as well.) As for fashion, guys are simple with the dress pants and shirt, but the camera harness is part of the ensemble as well. The Holdfast Money Maker looks great, and that's a big reason why I went with them for their dual harness. Although either Rose Anvil wasn't around or I just didn't know about them at the time. If I didn't already have my Moneymaker harness, I would probabaly get a Rose Avil instead.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write out this thoughtful response! It is so hard to find clothes that are professional, stylish, and geared for weddings. Thank you for adding to this list of ideas!!
Allie you put all the guys to shame that complain “it’s too heavy”😂 so many comments from “men” saying they sold this lens because it’s too heavy. I found the only 28-70 left in Australia at that time, I called every major camera store and found one 2500km away in another state where my daughter lives, she flew up a few days later with it. My wife is a skinny girl and shoots weddings with it. It is hands down the best lens ever made.
Haha thanks Steve! I'm so glad to hear that other people share the love for that lens because it truly is such an outstanding lens! Until the next best thing, this will be my go to lens! 😊
Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Another good one!
Thank you so much, and thank you for watching!
Nice review. Subscribed. If you were in LA we could work and learn
Thank you so much! Hopefully we'll cross paths at some point!
This video is an excellent resource when it comes to presets. Myself, I prefer to use only available light and be as true to reality as I can. That means what I get from my camera is the end result 99% of the time. I shoot RAW + jpeg for that 1% that I might need to resort to edit the RAW file. On the other hand, I am not a wedding photographer. I am into everything from artistic nude, to street, wildlife, macro, portraits, night photography, but no weddings. At least until now. I did a few events, like a bithday party or a corporate gathering, but nothing fancy.Good luck with your channel and I hope I see it grow.
Thank you so much! That is such a great approach when it comes to the style of photograph you are doing! Thank you again for watching 😊
Love your videos ❤😊
Thank you so much! And thanks for watching ☺️
you have some good info.... but your background music is way to loud and very distracting NOT a good mix!!!
Thanks for the feedback 👍🏼
Isn't the RF 28-70 F2 L almost as heavy as the EF 70-200 F2.8? How do you feel about the weight & girth of the RF 28-70 F2 L? Would you ever travel with it?
It is just about the same weight as the 70-200, and I'll be the first to say that is is absolutely not ideal 😂 I usually use the 70-200 only for ceremonies, but the 28-70 has been SO versatile to have throughout a wedding day. While it is a heavy lens, it has taken the weight off my shoulders of carrying two camera bodies with different prime focal lengths. Aside from the weight, I'm really loving everything the 28-70! Thanks for watching! :)
They can be about the same weight, but the balance and center of mass is a factor as well. Because the 70-200 is longer, the center of mass is further out from the grip, creating additional strain on your wrists. As heavy as the 28-70 is, it feels lighter using it if you add weight by attaching the battery grip. That pulls the center of mass back more towards where you hold the camera. Instead of my wrists contributing a lot to holding up the camera, I can feel the much larger muscles of my upper arms and back now contributing to holding up the camera.
@@gerrya2133 That's such a great perspective on the battery grip! I might have to try that out! Thanks so much for your insight!
Excellent info. Question; have you considered offering PDF templates of a "Wedding Day Check List" or something of that sort? Im considering it myself. Not for wedding of course but for my own niche.
Hey there! Thank you so much! I am absolutely working on some guides, freebies, and pdfs! This is such a great idea, and I'll add it to the list :) Thank you for the idea, and thank you so much for watching!
Hy. Very nice video. I bought this lens about a month ago after watching this :) I am not a wedding photographer, but still this is a lens that stays almost all the time on my camera, for everything from street, nightime, portraits, landscapes, architecture, you name it. And I have a lot of lenses, but this one is amazing. Good luck with the channel and your work!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying this lens. It really is a great one! It is so versatile for all types of photographers. Thank you so much for watching!
I just did this! I created a photography resume that included a list of my gear and my past experiences. Great advice! I haven't had any luck yet, but I think it's a matter of time.
I love that! Resumes are so helpful when it comes to connecting with photographers. Your works is so great, and it truly is only a matter of time! Keep up the incredible work! 🎉
Awesome review! I love this lens. Recently I made a video about this lens and how it works with product photos. Watching this video makes me regret not speaking about the overall weight of the lens. Keep up the excellent work! I'm about to binge your stuff. All the best,
Thank you so much! I just saw your video, and you did a great job as well! It is such a great lens for product photography as well, and I love that you hit home that idea of how versatile it is. It's always great to connect with another 28-70 fan! :)
I am in the Nashville area as well, just received my R6 in the mail yesterday. Very excited to see where this journey takes me!
Woohoo! Congratulations on the R6! I hope you love it just as much as I do!
Hi this is and awesome video and really helpful. As a photographer that’s never done weddings I am really interested in being a second shooter. Since I would be new at this, if I were to be a second photographer with no experience how would I now what to do, I noticed that you mentioned that you wouldn’t like to tell/give the second shooter a guid of what they should do. I think that’s what I would be asking the photographer for, since I have no experience and want to meet their expectations and not get in their way while being their second eyes.
I am very passionate about communicating expectations to my second shooters through a guide so that they don't feel lost on a wedding day! With being new to second shooting, I would recommend asking the photographer you're working with if they have guidelines for you! Thanks for watching :)
I’m a Sony shooter but that’s one of the lenses I’m very jealous of 🤣🤣🤣 It looks like an amazing lens, love to try it out one day. The Tamron 28-75 2.8 is my workhorse lens although the 35-150 is very tempting. Looks like it’d be great for weddings. Would you try that if they brought it to Canon?
28-75 sounds like an incredible focal length! The 35-150 focal length would be really tempting as well! For me it usually depends on how low I can go on aperture when it comes to weddings, but I'm always excited to try new focal lengths and lenses! Thanks for watching 🙂
Nice collection of Lens for wedding. Love those. 😍 I use basic lens and canon 50mm f1.8
Thank you! The 50mm focal length is for sure a favorite of mine :) Thanks for watching!
I'd like to second shoot for you. Though my question is do you prefer large medium or small RAW files. I'm kind of a greedy megapixel guy and settled for Medium and the last wedding I second shot. Instead of a 30 mb jpg from a 50mb raw I reduced it to a 15mb jpg from FX format of the D850.
My personal preference is usually large RAW files! They can be a pain for storage, but I like to lean on that side for wedding days! Thanks for watching!!
👍🏼
What bag(s) do you use? I figure "bag" being in the title of the video you'd share that part 😉👍💜
I cannot believe I missed the bag part! I am just now starting to outline more for my videos in advance before recording so that I can hopefully avoid missing parts like that! I'm going to make a video on the non-camera gear things I keep in my bag for a wedding day, and I'll have to add the bags in that video. I use a Pelican 1535Air, and then I use the Think Tank Backstory backpack!
Good afternoon! Great topic and video 🙏🏽
Thank you so much for watching! :)
Just found your page.. Love it!!

@@terrywhitall9270 Thanks so much Terry and thanks for watching!
I’m renting one of these this upcoming weekend for a wedding. I can’t wait to try it! I’ve heard so much hype about how awesome this lens is for weddings. Yeah … excited.
You'll have to let me know how you like it! It's such a great lens, and I hope you'll be just as excited about the flexibility of it! Thanks for watching!
@@alliechambersphoto Will do!
How did you like it? Haha
@@SalesBites I LOVED it! In fact I loved it so much I bought one and it is on my R5 most of the time. This lens is my go-to. I use my second camera body (R8) for the extras like my macro lens and either my 85mm or 70-200. The 28-70 is awesome!
The RF 28-70 f2 is my workhorse lens. Been using it for now over a year and absolutely love the lens; it stays on my camera 80-90% of the time. Renders images like a prime lens but with the flexibility of a zoom!
I couldn't agree more! It has been the biggest game changer for my business in the last few months of using it - I'm forever thankful for Canon releasing it! Thanks for watching!
Great setup, I use Canon Eos R with 24-105 with RF 50mm 1.8 and thinking to add 85mm 1.2 for creamy bokeh I think that's all I would ever need. Loving Canon gear so far I switched from Nikon Z6 to Eos R.
The 24-105 is such a great, versatile focal length! I always love the look of the 85 as well, so you couldn't go wrong there! Thanks for watching!
Great video. I definitely appreciate TH-cam now showing us content from creators with smaller channels. #NewSubscriber
Thank you so much for watching! I’m glad you stumbled across it ☺️
Im watching from Memphis, TN
Hi, Im just learning photography, and want to do that on the real world of taking pictures with someone that can teach me and direct me on how and what to do as a second shooter. Im not experienced, I have a Canon R5, Canon 5D mark III and some lenses. Maybe one day I can second shoot for you just for the experience I wont charge
You’ve got some great equipment! Here’s my second shooter application link if you’re ever interested in connecting! www.alliechambers.com/apply thanks for watching!
Maryland, second shooting is fun. Can concentrate on the captures while the lead directs gathering great candid's and out of the way angles that can really dress up the photos. Great video Allie!
I love that! Second shooting really is such a fun opportunity - great perspective on it! Thanks for watching!
Wait! You're complaining about the weight of the 70-200 and you have the 28-70? ROFL
They're both heavy! The 28-70 is just so versatile!
@@alliechambersphoto Definitely! I love mine.
i love this lens, but it is just soo heavy for a full day. at the moment i am using the q2 and the r5 with the 50.
I completely understand! The heaviness is one of the biggest downfalls with this lens for sure. I've heard great things about the q2 and can't wait to give it a test run! R5 and 50 is also always a great pair 👏🏻 thanks for watching!
I use this lens at weddings along with my 85mm, they’re a fantastic combination 🤣 Great real life review of the RF 28-70 f/2 L USM 👏
I'm sure it is a perfect pairing with the 85! That is such a great focal length! Thank you so much for watching! :)
Oh that's a nice combo I might try out next time. I do family shoots and with kids running around being unpredictable so I've mostly stuck with the "boring" zoom set up of this lens and the 70-200. But I'm trying to find reasons to use my 85. Playing around with having a button switch back and forth with crop mode on the R5 has made the idea more appealing.
@@gerrya2133 Yes you'll for sure have to let me know how you like the 85 pairing! It seems like it would be a great set up!
I been use the 28 70 2.0 for the 5 months , I absolutely love it! Is the best lens in the market
I couldn't agree more! Thanks for watching!
@@alliechambersphoto thank you! I love you Review. ☺👌
I really want to get that lens.... I'm just starting as a photographer but you know waiting to buy it, is like waiting for Christmas....Great Videos by the way
It's such a great lens, and it's something you can definitely work toward! It truly feels like Christmas when you get a new piece of equipment and that feeling never goes away. Thank you for watching!
@@alliechambersphoto 👍
R6 👌🏽
It is such a game changer!!
@@alliechambersphoto I love it, I do pair it with the 85mm 1.2 and I’m sore the next day.
@@KilozMedia I would believe that! I would probably feel the same way!
@@alliechambersphoto I was looking at the 70-200mm but after hearing you I’ll hold off. 🤣 really hoping for a RF 35mm 1.2 soon 🫠
@@KilozMedia It's a super heavy lens for sure 😂 I'll keep my fingers crossed on an rf 35 1.2 as well!! 🙌🏻
I am getting into photography, thinking about eventually doing it as a side hustle in Nashville. What advice would you give to someone starting out?
Congratulations on starting your side hustle in photography! Nashville is a great place for it. I'd love to give some advice on starting out! I have two more video themes queued up, and I release videos each Wednesday. I'll plan on making a video specifically about this topic if that's okay!
