Can Am Spyder F3 ride on a really hot day.
The ride was fun on this beautiful early Summer day but it was really hot. We're not getting much rain but thank goodness the irrigation system is finally working properly. Hope y'all are getting some good rides in too!

    Hello, I just bought a 2018 Spyder f3 limited, this is my first time with a Spyder, and I feel it extremely unstable and dangerous above 40 miles per hour, I don't think this is normal, because I have searched and read a lot about Spyder and no one has complained about this, which makes me think that my bike has something wrong with the stability system or the steering, could the DPS have something to do with this? Please if someone has an idea and can help me with some information about this I would really appreciate it, thank you very much.

      @@leam75 This is an unusual problem. Be aware that the steering is very sensitive and takes some getting used to. I have had mine up to 80 mph with no issue, but I have found that you have to be aware of your position in the lane ALL THE TIME! If you have a chance, ride another Spyder for comparison.

    Good to see you out Johnny. For me, I rode trail bikes, then motorcycles during college years and after. Stopped to raise family. Got into cycling at age 50 and loved it (still do). Then also got back into motorcycling in 2008. I was doing lots of cycling competitions also. Had several wrecks and in 2018 had a pretty bad crash on my bicycle during a group ride, thanks to a dog! At the time I owned a BMW R1200 GS motorcycle, which I loved. When I healed I never felt comfortable on the moto again, so I sold it and bought a new CanAm Spyder RT Limited the following year. Thanks for this video, now I know what to do if this happens to my 1996 25th Anniversary model. It’s like the Pro but darker stained wood and it doesn’t have the adjustable incline. I still love it just like I did when I bought it at a NordicTrack store nearly 30 years ago! One of the best investments I’ve ever made. Something about using it is more ‘interesting’ than other types of aerobic machines. That’s all I’ve been able to come up with as to why I still enjoy it (besides the very low impact). Thank goodness I bought the clear plastic reading accessory, I watch documentaries and interviews on a tablet while I’m using it. I doubt that I’d be nearly as disciplined about exercising without that. It’s a pretty simple machine but the creator was really a genius.

    i have a Nodric Track Achiever model, and the large flywheel is not working. Then it turned into so much resistance that I could not move the skis. Would this be one of the rollers? It was working up until yesterday. Can you still get parts? I just checked your link on AMZ, it is says they are unavailable. Thanks!

    • @speedsterjohnny7191
      @speedsterjohnny7191 ปีที่แล้ว

      First of all, I am assuming you have not taken the machine apart and reassembled it incorrectly, OK? Try taking all tension off the machine (nylon strap) and take the flywheel in your hand and move it back and forth. It should turn freely in both directions. If not, take it out and check for corrosion. Check each roller function by pressing down slightly on the ski and move it back and forth; It should turn the flywheel on the back stroke and roll freely when moving the ski forward. If they work in both directions, the rollers are good. The independent supplier I used may be out of stock or perhaps even not able to get the rollers anymore. If so, they may be available directly from NordicTrak. If so, be prepared to spend substantially more for them.

    • @speedsterjohnny7191
      @speedsterjohnny7191 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bodeans59 I looked up the Achiever on ebay and noted some differences between your machine and mine. On the Pro, the tension on the flywheel is controlled by a slide on the upright and there is a separate adjustment for the handles that you grasp with your hands. It sounds like there is something amiss with the tension adjustment for the skis, that is when it is when the tension knob is at its lowest setting it really needs to be lower. I'm not certain I can advise you on this problem.

    • @speedsterjohnny7191
      @speedsterjohnny7191 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bodeans59 I looked up the Achiever, and while similar to the Pro, it appears that the tension for the skis is set by an adjuster located in between the skis. If this is correct, then when the slide is set to the lowest setting (all the way forward it appears), there should be no resistance. If there is, something is wrong with that device. I could not find a video or any information indicating how to calibrate that control but there must be one. Do you have an owner's manual? If not, they may be available online. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for this helpful video, I'm so happy right now, feeling like Miss Fix It and no longer worrying about finding a new way to exercise!

      Thanks for the comment! I purchased mine in December of 1989 from a co-worker who needed money for Christmas gifts, or so he told me. It was in perfect condition and his price was half that of a new one. It was the best $300 and change I have ever spent. Best of luck with the repair and keep on "tracking".

    I had a similar issue with the left roller. It seemed like the rachet mechanism inside the roller was catching and not releasing so there was zero resistance when pushing back. I tried Liquid Wrench Penetrating oil. The thin tube on the can allowed me to deliver a little oil to the end of the bearing. Oil, let it soak in, spin and wiggle the roller, then repeat several times to both ends of the roller. After cleaning the rubber roller with alcohol, it now seems to be working great. Unsure how long it will last but since the roller is out-of-stock on Amazon it might be worth a try.

      Gerry, Hi! This is a strange one to me. With zero resistance when pushing back, if I understood you correctly, it almost sounded that the roller was in backwards. Please help me to understand. Thanks, Johnny

    • @gerry7725
      @gerry7725 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@speedsterjohnny7191 When the roller is working properly there is no resistance when the ski is sliding forward. There is resistance when you slide the ski back towards the rear of the machine. At that point the roller is engaged with the flywheel which is restrained by the friction belt. When the roller failed there was no resistance in either direction. The result can be surprising - you expect to have resistance when moving the ski backwards. I never removed the roller to lubricate it. I just tipped the entire unit on one side and then the other to apply the liquid wrench to both ends of the roller.

    I agreed, the ride is more important that how fast a bike can go. I love take offs, so torque down low. But after that, speed limit is fine with me. My fastest bike I ever had was a ZX14, that thing was a monster if you woke it up, but otherwise smooth and comfortable. Went up to 200km/h a few times, that's it.

    I grew up in Cobb Co, rode those roads quite a lot & spent lots of time at Allatoona. Blood Mtn is a great ride, my wife was just talking about our rides there. Next week planning on taking a trip from Orlando to The Dragon on the RTL. Safe travels fella!

    Good to see your back on three. Have been wondering how you have been doing. I work in a welding fabrication shop . I build horse and stock trailers. We powder coat the trailers . We have 3 big ovens going most of the time. And it gets hot as hell in the building . Take care and be safe. Thanks for the video

      I know what you mean, Bill. We have had a steady parade of 90 degree days which takes a lot of the fun out of riding. My Spyder is included in a recall for a front pulley and I am taking it for a quick check in a few days. The part probably won't be available for the fix for at least another month. Ryde safe and thanks for watching.

    I almost forgot; what cameras do you use? I'm still use my GoPro's for my drum videos, but I'm not happy with them at all for flying. I'm curious on which ones you have had good luck with.

      As indicated in my "About" page, I use an Akaso Brave 7 for the forward-facing camera. I wanted an Akaso Brave 6 plus but they became unavailable....and newer isn't always better. They designed them to be waterproof without using a case but it killed the sound....doh! The later versions, of which I think I have, are better. Next run I will do a test as I outlined and see how it does. When we moved, my Campark V30 and VanTop Moment 3 went missing. The Campark had excellent video and audio quality and the VanTop had was good enough for rear-facing. I have another Campark V30 but it does not have an external mic capability. The company claimed it was a "30A" that didn't have that feature but nothing on the container indicated that so now I use it as a rear-facing camera. Moto Vlogger "As the Magpie Flies" recommends the DJI Osmo over the latest Go Pro models....she had problems with freezing and has not had any problems with the Osmo but it is still a little pricey for my casual use.

      @@speedsterjohnny7191 I also see they have the Akaso Brave 8 out. How is the battery life? I don't care about it being waterproof and audio is secondary.

    • @speedsterjohnny7191
      @speedsterjohnny7191 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The battery life is about an hour and a half. The "7" comes with two batteries and a charger. I have not looked into the "8" at this point.
