Getting New Windows Installed
We had new windows installed on my parents house. We ended up going with Marvin fiberglass windows from a local installer.

Where did you get that lock set and frame from? Can't find a decent set for my outdoor gate. Love this one
Thank You, The deadbolt is a Quickset brand for front doors and the knob is an interior doorknob. I forget which brand. They technically are not meant to be used for this purpose, but they work and have held up. I made the door frame from dimensional lumber. I made the sides using 2x6 lumber, so I had room for the lock and doorknob.
Question? why cedar and not redwood pickets? Thanks, Anyone!
Both Redwood and Cedar are good options.
What color did you stain it ?
Cedar naturaltone
Thanks for the video that tells me Jack shit about bypassing a ballast. Really great stuff
I didn’t explain what I did but you can see what I did. LED lights are typically direct wire and don’t use a ballast, so remove the ballast and wire the lights directly. You’ll want a live side and a neutral side. I also installed a fuse in the live line as a safety measure. The bulb will be marked on each end with an L and an N for live and neutral.
Job well done, thank you
Cinder block in the ground quikcrete then pvc pipes in quikcrete

It's been a while since this was first posted. Has it held up since?
The gate frames have held up great. I have replaced the hinges with heavy duty custom adjustable hinges. I should make an update video at some point.
I thought you used AI to have Forrest Gump narrate your video.
Impressive attention to detail. Proper clean job, Well done from the UK!!
This is exactly what I'm trying to do! I've been watching videos on how to make doors and other videos on how to make side yard gate, but non of them was combined as yours. I want to make a side yard gate with deadbolt locks and handles similar to a house door. Thank you for your video sir, I had to watch it again at 0.25 speed to see how you made that frame lol! I wish you had added subtitles for every step you did, but watching it at 0.25 speed explained your steps! You were using clamps to pre-drill the frame, is this step necessary to insure the wood will not crack, or do you think I can get away without them?
Thank you, I did speed it up pretty fast. I pre-drilled pocket holes. You don’t have to use pocket holes. On larger diameter screws it’s a good idea to pre-drill the holes to about or under the smallest diameter of the screw.
I'm looking same color.
Why did you do the extra horizontal board through the middle?
Structurally it only really needs the top braced one and a bottom one but I went with three horizontal boards on the fence and made the gate to match. (It’s good for limiting the bowing of the pickets.)
From whom did you purchase these?
I think I got them at Floor & Decor
@@JoeMcCoskey Thanks!
no tampering or compacting required for the base?
It’s a good idea to tamp the base. That step was skipped in this video.
braces are worthless , totally no support.
How can i know y my wall has blocking? My stud detector is going crazy and makes no sense.
I go back and forth with the stud detector to find the edges of the studs / wood. Left to right for vertical edges and up / down for horizontal edges. The only way to know for sure is to push something through the drywall and see if you encounter resistance on the other side.
That is some fine work. Where did you get the door re-inforcement plate (black metal plate) that is on the post?
Thank you. The plate is custom made.
@@JoeMcCoskey where did you get that custom made bracket from? I finished my gate, only thing is my latches are a little less than half an inch away, and I would appreciate a lot if I can find a wrap up plate that is quarter of an inch thick and can wrap around a 4x4 (3.5"x3.5" by 1 foot)
@ you can order some plastic material 1/4 thick x 1-1/2 or narrower from McMaster as shim stock then use a regular wrap around plate. I don’t know anyone who makes thick plates like is in this video.
Nice looking fence. Will sag. Guaranteed. I’d put some wheels under the ends for support and pour a concrete path for them. Just noticed this video’s age. TH-cam recommended it. Curious to see if it did sag. I’ll try to see if there’s an update
I’m planning similar gate build right now (10-30-24). How do I prevent sag? Strategic cross bracing design? Larger hardware? 6x6 or 8x8 posts? Thanks for your response. DIYer here.
@johnyb9884 don’t get me wrong. This looks like a great build but there’s a reason why they call it mending fences. Just take great care of it (weather protection) and plan on it. You’re gonna have to go out on occasion and mend fences. Oh and don’t use nails. Use outdoor rated screws definitely.
Nice video Joe!! Thanks for sharing! In the video from Kohler for the Levity Sliding Glass Door, they indicate that the base needs to be at least 3" wide to mount this door. My walk-in shower is only 2-5/8". Do you think 2-5/8" would be adequate to mount these sliding doors vs the 3" suggested width of the mounting surface. Thanks!
The guide at the bottom would hang over the inside edge but other than that it would work.
wow - that was a waste of my fckn time
What span did you end up doing... 6 or 8ft? Were all the rails 4x2s?
8ft spans, 4x2 rails.
Best beard I’ve ever seen at a year! Nice
awesome!
Love Canada Merci Québec 😮
Rotate them manually it's saver better cranks shaft pulley timing ,,
what is the glue or silicone you use on the bottom of the threshold on the tub. i had someone install the door for me and I assume the heat from showering undid the threshold so now i have to put it back on so the door slides shut
I used 3M supreme kitchen & bath silicone.
@@JoeMcCoskey thank you
I just bought that style toilet, haven’t got it install yet. Can u tell me how to repair holes in tile? The contractor workers drilled holes then moved door. I can see that caulking in my beautiful tile🤦🏾♀️😩. Thanks for sharing
A color match caulking is a simple option. If you want it fixed like new, you’ll need to remove and replace the tile with the holes in it. There are some good videos on YT about this. Search removing single tile, replace cracked tile.
@@JoeMcCoskey thank you
@@JoeMcCoskey i withheld payment until corrected. As I’m texting, the contractor at Home Depot getting replacement tile. My tile shiny n correcting it this way, just didn’t work. They mad because shower was up😩. He should have been here supervising his workers.
It’s not a quick fix and that would make everyone upset but if they drilled the holes in the wrong spot, then they should fix it. It’s very important to make sure your drilling holes in the correct location in tile, since removing and replacing the tiles is a pain. I’d say him and his workers can use it as a learning opportunity. Hopefully it all gets worked out for you.
@@JoeMcCoskey he admitted they(his workers )didn’t use the guide tool n that was their 1st shower like mine🤦🏾♀️ today. It all went well n he got paid. Thanks again
Nice work
7:34 On the whole, AMAZING JOURNEY. Looks like you just tumbled out of the forest there! Lol looks great man! I’m on my own Yeard Journey too. I’ve got a curly beard too, and I’ve found a Paul Mitchell Detangler comb has really helped. Doesn’t pull AT ALL on hair, even safe to use on wet hair as there is ZERO resistance. Wet hair is more vulnerable so a large tooth comb is best. This one just makes it really nice.
A large tooth comb or pick is the way to go.
Thank you soooo much for this video!
Beautiful joinery work. Flimsy hinges will fail in days..
Very pretty and good joinery work. Ludicrous flimsy hinges will not last 5 minutes.
This is too funny! 😂 why is it lookin like you tongue pushing your under lip forward? 🤪
that is a smart way to keep the door open. Never thought of that. Great tip
The speaking is absolutely annoying. Look it up and read and you see how ridiculous you sound. Speak normal
Nice fence
Misleading title. You didn't put up panels. You built your fence without panels Not what I was looking for
Very nice job and video editing. What model and year is red car? Gary
It’s a 1972 Ford Galaxie
It looks so nice 👍
The manual says that a 3" flat surface, at a minimum, is required. It appears as though this would work fine if it's actually less than 3", as long as there's a gap on either side right?
The manual wants a 3” flat for the center guide width. I think it should be fine if the center guide hangs over the edge a little. I would just install it with the threshold as far to the outside as possible, this will give the center guide as much room as possible, but it connects to the threshold and can overhang inside the tub a little, if needed.
@@JoeMcCoskey Thanks Joe, I really appreciate your response. Thank you for this video - huge help.
Didnt even see where you put the jigsaw piece.
Looks amazing 👏 I'm looking for a close up on the middle is that concrete drilling into the ground? What is that piece called ? How deep is that? What hardware is that called please
Thank you, The hardware on the bottom is called a gate cane bolt. I made the concrete piece.
Not a very good video, didn't show us the hinges or the front of the gates, WTF??
Great benefit for growing thick beard is your face wrinkles double chin is covered. Every day when you shave your skin becomes very hard when you stop shaving skin becomes softer. When I used to shave my age looked older now I have grown thicker beard people judge my age far more younger than my actual age that’s because double chin and other lines are covered with thick beard
Does the paste come in a different color
You can buy color match caulking in different colors.
That's a really good job. Looks great. Would be so good to have a parts list and instructions to help someone who's never done a fence before. Everything is so darn expensive to pay. In SoCal they want $450 labor just to install two ceiling fans. Without running any switches. Crazy
The beard suits you brother, I’m on my 7th month currently and am seeing big changes now
Thank you! I needed this
What did you use on the outside of the gate as far as latch is concerned
The gate only opens from the inside.
