Making a Coil Shock fit on my Air Shock Mountain Bike
มุมมอง 37ปีที่แล้ว
I blew out my air shock at Beech Mountain last year and wanted to upgrade to a coil shock to prevent future blowouts from occurring as frequently. After doing some research, I found out that no one offered a coil shock that would fit my bike. This was more due to the shape of the frame than due to the size of the coil shocks. After being frustrated over and over again, I decided I would make it...
Beta Dirt Bikes Make You Ride in Attack Position
มุมมอง 36ปีที่แล้ว
Taylor and I reminisce on how the Beta chassis all shared one similar characteristic, and it’s the characteristic that makes us love the way they ride.
How do the 2023 Betas feel to ride?
มุมมอง 26ปีที่แล้ว
Listen to Taylor and I discuss our thoughts on how it made us feel to ride each 2023 Beta. I attempted to add this at the end of the last video but Final Cut wouldn’t let me so I had to make a new video and will have to make another video after this as well so stay tuned for that. Brap On!

best off on the head torque to set at 15 or so then to 20 to get the proper torque. Usually on a metal head gasket but works on these also.
Oh man, you're making it beg for mercy in 3rd gear..... lol
3rd gear is it’s favorite
I have apex head 410 main 40 pilot 4 neddle clip an it seems Lean what jetting are urs ????
Sold this bike about 4 years ago but it was running stock jetting I believe
Best money I spent on my 12 yz250. Built mine for track porting wise Austinm716 I have a track video thing screams. Always grabbed attention when I started it.
Video on instagram. But best money if your looking for more bottom end while keeping that yami top end. Video shows the sound under load and it was ported for top end but low end was crazy. If trailing maybe a flywheel weight with low porting depends on what u want.
Loved that bike but I sold it last year and got a newer bike. Thing was a beast though, I put over 150hrs on it. Mine had a steahly flywheel can’t remember exactly what size but I wanna say 11 or 13oz
I had a 12 yz with gorr’s 295 made for the track I’d start it and people would flock. They were no joke.
Naw bro I think I'm the one who bought the crustiest most crappie dirtbike on Craigslist! Lol😅 it was bad!
The crustiest ones are always the best deals and I just can’t pass up a good deal lol
Squish?
Taylor measured that off camera and played with different base gaskets to get it to where he wanted it. Can’t recall what he settled on
I swear TH-cam has recommended 10 or moreSpanish dirt bike video. Wish they would recommend more Americans lol
That’s what I’m saying!!
Usually you clean the engine before taking them apart😅
Believe or not, that’s a clean as I could get it. I figured I’d be sand blasting before rebuilding it which cleaned it up a lot better and quicker too
Hey bro quick question Where did you buy your 300 top end kit? I've seen some kits on ebay and thinking about buying one for my 01 YZ250. Thanks
I bought the bike with the 300 kit already on it but when I bought a top end rebuild kit I got it from Eric Gorr Racing. I sent a few emails and didn’t get a response so I called him and he fixed me up. He’s a one man show, not sure if he’s still in business but the custom port work he does on the cylinders is unmatched imo
Cringing like a mofo please keep ur day job do not be any type of mechanic
Specs on the Xtrainer say it has a 57.8" wheelbase, 216 lbs without fuel, and 10.6" wheel travel both ends, 35.8" seat height. So if it settles 2-3", that should put you around 32-33" seat height. My thinking is the shorter suspension is what's giving you that feel for sliding the rear end around. That would lower the center of mass which should improve handling. A lot of people comment about how they like the Xtrainer and handling is the key feature.
Right, but we were talking about all of the beta frames. Not just the Xtrainer. You need to get some seat time on one, you’ll see what I’m talking about
True...the best ones help you out...
Cookin thru the cold woods with no hand guards eh? Knuckle buster. I know you enjoyed the testing so I'm gonna watch .....
I watched both videos. Reminded me of some of the other guys videos, same trail. But you guys were smoking thru. No warmup, hit the trail and go. I didn't hear you say what bike you were on first, but decided it was a smaller bore by the way you rode it. Like you were in 2nd and letting it rev. I could see Tay's brake like coming on and was wondering when he would blow thru a turn.... he did. LOL Later on when you were on the 300 XTrainer, I could tell you were liking it. Run it up a gear high and lug it all the way, and it was taking it. It's supposed to have a nice suspension. I'm glad you guys liked that bike. It has a lot of positive comments on different forums by a lot of guys. On the videos, improvise, adapt, overcome! Really enjoyed the banter back and forth discussion, and especially comments AND your engine noises and bogs.... LOL I was actually looking for an XTrainer at one time, thinking I might get back into the 2T game with you guys. Things didn't work out that way for me, kind of glad I held back now that I found the YZ250FX. We need to do a comparison ride video now that you have something different.
200 RR at first. Had a nice video edited and then technology decided to say try again lol hopefully the next video won’t give me so many issues
What was the first bike you rode? 200 or 250?
200 RR
Wait till tomorrow 😅😅
Quickly rebuild a top and bottom end in your kitchen while your wife is in the shower!! 😂 Epic job guys!
I’ve only done the Blue trail.
I think the trails have changed drastically now after much of the property was logged. Not sure which trails are still rideable, haven’t ridden there since 2020
No ring gap check? Good stuff, guys! BTW the head is on backwards.
Naaaahhh it had a gap so that’s all we were worried about. Lol yeah we figured that one out after the fact. Thanks man, she’s still running strong!
probably a kool video couldnt finish it due to someone hacked yer post an tried to change it into a music video instead....
My burning chamber spins when tightening the spark plug, do you have any advice?
Make sure the head is bolted down
@@brapbuddy9660 It is, 18Nm for SX 125 2017
Good job guys
I wish I could have watched the whole video but I got tired of looking down at the ground
Oh man. Stop, rest, and cool off before yo got too far.
Man, that hill at about 17 min in was g narley.
Harry almost died on that drop 😂
Lovely job!
Thank you!
How many hours you got on that bike ?
Top end was done around 130hrs, got around 160hrs on it now
@@brapbuddy9660 I got a 22 250 xc about 3 months ago with 30 hours so bikes been a blast ! I still have my 2015 250xc with over 300 hours bikes still runs great ! Hope the tpi works out the same!
@@Briank-ef5iq nice!! Love a screaming 250 smoker. I’ve heard the new tbi’s are all the rage now, want to try out one of those here soon if I can get my hands on one
@@brapbuddy9660 yea I’m just a weekend warrior don’t race just trail ride , I’m happy with what I got ! That being said wouldn’t mind throwing a leg over 23 xc !
@@Briank-ef5iq same here brotha, wouldn’t mind making a comparison video between the tpi and tbi 🤔
Man, that crank seal was a bear!
Took some effort but we got it on there 💪🏼💪🏼
LOL "I put the head on backwards."
Nice video man, how’s she run now?
She’s running like a champ 💪🏼💪🏼
We need more lube!
Enjoyed watching.... especially the perfectly timed part dropping off when you said not to drop it. LOL
It happens 🤷🏼♂️
FYI, any excess Loctite is run up the threads when a screw is screwed into a nut or boss in that case. So just use a small amount as necessary.
Great video and riding man
Thanks Randy!
What oil were you running? Thanks
Maxima 927 castor oil
Did you guys even check the ring end-gap? Thank you.
It was perfect, already put another 65 hours on it
Got some shirts at the store. Never fails; when I wear one out and I'm standing in a line, people behind me ask about it, then give me their story of being on that road.
Accomplished our goal: father / son bike trip to some of the best views of God's great creation. To God's glory.
Amen
Looked a lot like my 300EXC.
Great video bud, helped me out big time
Glad it helped you out!
Love me some EG back in the day!!
It was a little cool with the drizzle that day. Still had a great time.
Why did you put the cover on with the chain removed? You had the new chain on then the next clip the chain was off and you were putting on the front sprocket cover? Made just video flaw but nice simple video to follow nonetheless.
The memory card filled up or the camera died. Can’t remember which one but I wanted to show me putting the cover back on even if the chain wasn’t installed. Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching!
I think #EricGorr is out of business I have tried to reach him multiple times and the phone seems to be disconnected
Well that’s unfortunate if that’s the case. I made this video about a year and a half ago and I couldn’t get him to respond to emails or voicemails but one day I called about 10am and he answered and I got my order placed. From what I could tell it seemed like he was running his entire business on his own so that would explain why he was so busy
I live about 20 minutes from this park and just got my first mountain bike a few weeks ago. Do you know how long this trail is for a single lap?
I think it’s somewhere between 8-12 miles but has multiple points you can jump out
@@brapbuddy9660 wow longer than I expected. Yeah I'm almost 40 years old and haven't ridden a mountain bike since I was in highschool. I bought a Cannondale trail 8a few weeks ago and I'm looking forward to getting back into it. Thanks for the response
@@jasonno4074 hope you enjoy the trail! It’s a great one to get back into mtb
Make a trip to the new Bogue Chitto state park MTB trails sometime . It will blow ya away . North shore mtb club and flow motion trails really made it tres bien !
Hope to see more of the trip on here
Stay tuned for more episodes
Epic ride Bubba. We got a LOT of seat time on that trip... would do it again! Trip of a lifetime..... with my son.
Where’s the next destination?
Felt like I was along for the ride👌
