you can't just visually say it's good. you should MIC your cyinder and compare it to your new pison to see if the clearance is still in spec. at least push some new rings in and check the end gap. Also its a VERY good idea to clean the engine before you tear it down, unless you dont care about dirt and crud in the crank! Not Impressed!
Of course you can, you just saw me do it! Lol I’ll agree I should’ve checked the piston and cylinder with a micrometer/calipers but... I don’t have any so I did what I could with what I had. It also wasn’t just a visual inspection, you can feel bearing play in any type of bearing if you know what to feel for. I actually got another 50 hours out of that crank and bearings. Just tore the motor apart last month and threw a new bottom end in it at 200hrs, not because they were bad but I had a crank seal going out so I decided to revamp the entire bottom end while I was down there. Also... everyone always has to comment on how dirty the motor is lol... I did clean it, I promise. I’m assuming you don’t have red clay where you’re from or you’d probably understand what 150hrs of it can do to a motor. I actually sand blasted the bottom end after I made this video so I wasn’t worried about how dirty it was because I knew it was about to be as clean as it was the day it left the factory 🍻
You really can't feel crank play, if it's loose, it will blow in a hour or two. With good oil, filter maintenance and enduro riding, you probably will make 300h with a crank 👍
I bought the bike with the 300 kit already on it but when I bought a top end rebuild kit I got it from Eric Gorr Racing. I sent a few emails and didn’t get a response so I called him and he fixed me up. He’s a one man show, not sure if he’s still in business but the custom port work he does on the cylinders is unmatched imo
People normally take the cylinder off and send it to him and he sends you one back but he may offer a complete build option, I’m not sure on that one. I’m sure you could call him and he’d answer all of your questions, super knowledgeable guy
What parts are you replacing if you are using the crank? New piston, rings, wristpin, bearing, and clips? How much does that cost? I am seriously considering the 300 kit for my 2008 yz250 that has no less than 500 hours on it. Probably closer to 750 hours.
Yes I just replaced the piston, rings, wrist pin, bearing, clips, and gaskets. I paid $200 for all of that plus shipping. If you don’t already have your cylinder bored out then you’d have to do that before the 300cc piston would fit of course.
80 hours is a good replacement interval for a stock cast piston, but this looks like a forged high end piston. 150 is probably ok. great vid guys - love the team effort.
Lol everyone says that, I did wash it I promise! It just had some dirt stains after 150hrs that were a little stubborn and wouldn’t come off no matter how hard I washed them. I sand blasted the motor and frame after this and powder coated the frame black. Everything was much easier to clean once I had the bike torn down and the motor out of it. Check out the rebuild video to see!
@@RUSTY-A-L I mainly ride faster XC style single track, slower soft enduro single track and hard enduro stuff. I think the 927 did a great job at protecting the cylinder walls but I will say the power valves were pretty oily when I took it apart. I’d suggest cleaning the power valves every 50-75 hours depending on how slow of rpm your running. Slower rpm I’d say clean it more often because the power valves don’t get opened all the way and cleaned out as much
@@brapbuddy9660 Give Amsoil a shot, protection is better and cleanliness is on a different level. Bean oil smells great but leaves allot of residues and isn't the best wear protection ...Gawdd the smell is amazing tho haha😃
For reference most people change a 250cc two stroke piston at about 100hrs. 4 stroke top ends last longer. However, after putting a new piston in, I now have 200 problem free hours on the cylinder, which is the majority of what you pay for when you buy a big bore kit
Well that’s unfortunate if that’s the case. I made this video about a year and a half ago and I couldn’t get him to respond to emails or voicemails but one day I called about 10am and he answered and I got my order placed. From what I could tell it seemed like he was running his entire business on his own so that would explain why he was so busy
Shot it in 4K, TH-cam makes the quality worse :( Was tearing down to rebuild motor and powder coat frame black so that why it was so dirty. 152.2 hours of dirt and grime 🤘🏼
I am not big on cleaning my bike either but.... I at least it a little bit before cracking into the motor
I did clean it 😂 It was mud stained and I had to sandblast the motor to get it to look clean again

My 2000 yz250 has the same eric gore 300 kit it's been amazing for me love the low to mid range power.
They pull harder than KTM 300s 🤭🤭
Is it from ebay?

I am wanting to send off my KX250 engine to Eric gorr for the Big Bore 295 2-stroke so you do recommend it?
Absolutely, he makes high quality parts.
Run it.... yep, right decision. Go man. Yeah.... Scotch Brite it, clean it up, good to go.... with a new piston that is.
Usually you clean the engine before taking them apart😅
Believe or not, that’s a clean as I could get it. I figured I’d be sand blasting before rebuilding it which cleaned it up a lot better and quicker too
Hey bro quick question
Where did you buy your 300 top end kit? I've seen some kits on ebay and thinking about buying one for my 01 YZ250.
Thanks

I been thinking about sending my bike to him but I wanted to know does he send the mortor back together or is it in parts

I think he might be out of business

What size piston is that ? I can’t seem to find one for my kx250 mine is 73.95mm
What oil were you running? Thanks
Maxima 927 castor oil
Do you know if they make one for mid 90's Suzuki RMX250's? I so want to install one and run the heck out of it right now.
I have no clue of the top of my head but and RMX would be an awesome bike to throw a big bore kit in. Let me know if you do!
I think the RMX cylinder limits it to 265 cc.
Jesus christ! Wash the engine before taking it apart!
I literally said that out loud when I saw that.
Haha, 150h is a lot 😁 Would be good to change the piston at 80h, then you'll save the cylinder bore 👍
Cylinder has 200h on it now, still going strong 💪🏼💪🏼

I wood but a new crank in it
Definitely should have washed your bike before you started...the inside looks cleaner with 150 hrs than the outside!

What oil did you use
For gear oil I use Belray gear saver transmission oil 80wt and for premix I used Maxima castor 927 2 stroke oil.
@@brapbuddy9660 I ran bean oil back in the day Blendzall while riding dirt track. Do you think Maxima 927 would be good for enduro type riding?

man you must buy a new camera we see video 360p in 2021 ? and you must clean your moto... :P

Bad idea to run it. There should be absolutely no up and down. You can here it clanking going up and down
It was clanking side to side, not up and down. I’ll let you know when I get to 300 hours or the motor blows up, whichever comes first 😂
