Te Hihiri proud. Whaea Koka is the backbone of all this.
This group of Maori performers look like the group from Rotorua where they perform for the Tourists. Their dances are based on war dances and attempt to scare their enemy ( usually other Maori tribes ) before they attack. They were cannibals until the English explorers pointed out to them that they would all be wiped out if they did not stop being so anti to others who were exploring the world, just as the Maoris did when they left the highlands of Taiwan and paddled/sailed their outrigger canoes ( called wakas ) down the line of islands and eventually finding New Zealand. Unfortunately, they killed and ate the native New Zealand Moriori people, who were very friendly and non-violent. There is a documentary done by TVNZ that includes DNA Specialists confirming their Taiwan origins, but some Maori deny that, and still claim that they came from Hawaii which even the Hawaiians totally reject.
That information is all wrong - even Chat GPT gives a better answer lol. Clearly you didn't research well especially the assumptions around Māori/Moriori. Suggest you find better factual evidence ngā mihi.
@@mikaeretipene5354 Your comment is noted, but it is typical of some Maoris that deny the evidence that cannot be disputed. Firstly, the DNA of a North Island Maori Iwi was volunteered to compare with all South Pacific, Asian and Hawaiian Natives, as they wanted absolute confirmation that they came from, in their opinion and religious beliefs, from Hawaii. It was a perfect match for an Iwi ( tribe ) from the highland area of Taiwan, and when a male Maori was taken there to the village and meet the Elders of the tribe, he thought that several of the women were his twin sisters, the actual resemblances was so identical. The Hawaiian Natives had already rejected the Maori's claims that they were from there, and in fact when the DNA results came out the Maoris gave up claiming they sailed from there. CHAT GPT relies on information recorded online, and in particular the site called Wikipedia which is a voluntary site that anyone can load any information onto. Many references to Maoris made on it are false, and just opinions based on religious beliefs of some Maoris, and University Tutors who have written papers based on their slanted views. The Moriori were the original natives of New Zealand, the Maoris arrived, made friends with them, then killed them and ate them. This is a recorded fact, and the New Zealand Government recently brought into New Zealand Law a special Law related to an apology and compensation to the remaining Moriori Trust ( at the Chatham Islands where some survived ) over the way the New Zealand Maoris treated them. ( look it up in Govt. records ) I note that this Law was passed with a total 100% vote, which was before the present Maori Political Party ( racist in name as well as membership as non-Maori are not allowed to join it ) were "elected" by securing just 3% of the vote of Maoris, who are also on a racist "Maori's only" electors list. My research into the correct history of New Zealand ( some Maoris call it "Aotearoa" but there is an island in the Hauraki Gulf near Auckland already called "Aotea" and it was called that when the Maoris arrived there after being chased away from Fiji ) started in 1963 when I helped teach Maori poi dancing and hakas at primary school, and continued as a Forensic Historian after University. I specialised in fact checking and have visited Moriori village sites in New Zealand, Maori Pa and inter-tribal battle sites, been invited to speak on the subject of Maori History, and know about the opinions and religious beliefs of the very small number of Maoris who are still trying to change the narrative. The true Maori Culture is a very rich diverse base of many different tribes who put down their weapons of murder and war, and took up a democratic way of life to share New Zealand with the rest of the people from all over the world, and to show their unbelievable talents in music and dance. War dances belong in history, along with fake beliefs about them. I never make assumptions, your assumption that I didn't do my "research very well" just reflects your own ignorance. I suggest you watch the TVNZ Documentary on Maori History yourself, I am the person standing on the left beside the Village Chief in the 3rd video segment shot. And yes, you will see that I am a Maori New Zealander.
No Maori says we come from Hawaii. Hawaiki is the claimed original place. They are not the same. Moriori were not here first. They arrived in the same fleets and landed in the Chatham islands.
@@dane1056 Stop being pedantic, the Maoris not only believed they came from the "Hawaiian Islands" but attempted to sail an outrigger canoe from there to New Zealand in an attempt to "prove" it. It failed, and they ended up near America. ( due to the wind and tidal flow of that area ) They gave up claiming that they came from there. Your statement about the Moriori being a sub-tribe of Maori is just a weak excuse for the existence of the Moriori, and it is the standard reply from naive people that do not want to consider the documented facts. They ended up being chased from near Timaru where they had a small fishing encampment out to the Chathams, after the slaughter at Kaitorere Spit ( between the mouth of Lake Ellesmere and Lake Forsythe-google it and the historic Moriori Encampment Site that DOC control ) The DNA of the Maori and Moriori is as different as the English and the Zulu, but the foolish non-believers ignore this fact along with the Moriori main Encampment in the hills behind Gisborne, which DOC prevent even archaeological assessments for fear of more evidence that the Moriori were here first, and the Maoris claims that they were would then be proved false. You, like anyone, are more than welcome to your own opinion. But if it is not based upon facts and is based upon what someone told you to believe, then you are just foolishly wasting your time. Go watch the TVNZ Documentary, and read the MORIORI CLAIMS SETTLEMENT ACT 2021, a Public Act of the New Zealand Parliament ( No 49 of 2021 Date of Assent being the 25 November 2021 ) But you could also keep believing lies, if you want to.
@@stephenprice-o6j absolute crap, no Maori thinks we come from Hawaii. We come from Hawaiki. Hawaiki is not Hawaii. We come from the Cook Islands, back to Tahiti. It's from Tahiti where they split off to Hawaii and Rapanui. Before that it's Samoa. Moriori own oral tradition stipulates they went straight to Rekohu. There is no evidence to suggest there was anyone in NZ before the late 1200s early 1300s which is when the fleets started arriving.
Love our culture our land our people ❤
It is not your land.

Western Samoa, please, invest in the younger generation, and teach them our traditional dances. Many of the other islands have used their Tupulaga talavou to show case the traditions.
I believe the newer generation needs to be taught the traditional dances, they also should display traditional dances from our villages because as we know some villages in Samoa have their own traditional dances and styles. Like the village of solosolo, their distinct style of traditional has been performed for generations, the first recording of it being in the 1940s.
Thanks for the lovely Pan Pacific Festival 2024 videos God bless always many more Festivals for years
Back those eras there were people who kept growing vertically called giants as for today era people growing horizontally and they called Humpty Dumpty had a great fall after sitting on the wall a lot hahahahahahaha respect
Maori Poi dance lovely Well the Poi is like the sling that David used documented in the Bible you know he swang it like that with stones inside and threw at the giant Goliath and Goliath died Now it is Maori Poi dance to remember that Bible history when there was Giants walking the Earth

I feel like Samoa needs to invest in the next generation of siva samoa groups...
the whole point of their delegation is to practice these type of sivas so the history and culture of the REAL siva samoa can still be shown.
And to bring the young faces to perform the marvellous beauty of Samoa still sustainable from times to time. We don't wanna see mama and Bapa on stage, but we need to see the original performance to prove the most true Samoan cultural entertainment... Ae le Ole o e fai kaualuga e iloa ai le vaavaa SAo ai le kala se pei o le Ao ga mea ....... fai aku ai foi ...it's my own say about it . Ae fai sau oe kala iai....soifua maguia le faafiafiaga..
@@Chris-zo1vm Yeah, I know what the purpose is. I’m not talking about the items i’m talking about the dancers. They need to teach the new generation these traditions, whats the point if they aren’t teaching the next generation these traditions
@@Chris-zo1vm and if we’re gonna talk about REAL siva Samoa then why not perform the traditional Ailao instead of the contemporary version called the “Siva afi”?, why not get into the traditional positions for the Maulu’ulu when it’s being performed.
@@isaialeuila9327 this is true and i love this comment! but there are differences. the Ailao is a war dance and in these siva samoas are story tellers yk what i mean? Its a art and culture festival so why not show the art while doing a cultural dance you get it? js like the newest dance they had, every dance they did told a story.
I hope that the next festival will be nice to see the young generation of Samoa represent the beauty of their culture
As a Pacific Islander to you my beloved fellow Pacific Islander…. We need to do a good job parenting…… ask the parents there in Hawaii… they can’t manage to look after their young ones
Churr nothing like a maori performance
